So far, I've found that much of the information in the old character files can still be loaded. Green diamond selections, talents, buffs, and items seem to import fine, except that the belt is assumed not to have a buckle by default (the gem that was stored in the belt buckle slot in the old format disappears). I don't know if blue diamond / red dot selections, the ones that reference particular enchants and gemmings, made it through or not because I only use those for a few things, and I didn't think to check (no access to it at the moment). The only major thing that didn't make it through was enchants. All my gear was unenchanted in the new version. Setting them back was easy though. TLDR: Old character files aren't perfectly compatible, but you'll get almost everything if you load one anyway.

P.S. The new gemming system is excellent. Would it be possible to have a dynamically-generated section made of every possible combination of gems marked available, or would that be too ugly to do? (I'll try to answer this question for myself if I can steal the time to try to write it in, but I'm posing it now in the very likely case that I can't).

Edit to add: It looks like it'd be possible, but on further thought, boy would the list get big fast. (# of gems selected ^ 4) * # of metas? Yikes.

Should be able to fix the character compatibility issue with a quick XSLT. I am not familiar with the formats well enough to do it myself.

Trying to optimize my gear for Sarth 3D maintanking (with my druid) I realized that the [Lesser Flask of Resistance] is missing. Aiming at 347 fire resistance I just used 265 (+82 via Flask + Mixology) at the optimizer, but it´d be great if the flask was included so I can check my fire survivability and even optimize against it with the flask in mind.

Maybe not, but it certainly helps against those 74k flame breaths.

This isn't the place to discuss it, but yes, Fire Resistance is a very viable way to deal with Sarth+3 breaths. There are many ways, but that is indeed one way that works well.

Rawr v2.2.0b1 Release

Download (BETA) - Rawr - Release: Rawr 2.2.0b1

Welcome to Rawr 2.2.0. Rawr now has a brand new gemming system, which should greatly ease the pains we've all had with gems in Rawr up til now.

Recent Changes:

v2.2.0b1
- PLEASE NOTE: This is a beta of Rawr 2.2. It has not received the same level of testing that we normally put into releases, but we're releasing it in its current form, due to the large number of changes. If you do run into bugs, please post them on our Issue Tracker. Please use the current release version, Rawr 2.1.9, if you encounter showstopping bugs in Rawr 2.2.0b1. Thanks!
- Gemming Revamp! Rawr will now automatically handle gems, just as you'd expect. See Help > Gemmings for details. NOTE: Rawr 2.2 is not backawards compatible most of your existing data files. Please do not copy data files from previous versions of Rawr. Your existing character files should load into Rawr 2.2 just fine, except you'll have to reselect enchants on your gear.
- Rawr.Bear: Support for Savage Defense.
- Rawr.Cat: Fixes for hit calculations.
- Rawr.Mage: Support for 3.0.9 changes. Fixes for a few obscure calcultion bugs.
- Rawr.Moonkin: Brand new spell calculation engine, powered by WrathCalcs.
- Rawr.ProtWarr: Significant improvements to accuracy. Added additional rating choices, and additional customization to existing rating ratios. See the Options tab for details. Added support for parry hasting
- Rawr.HolyPriest: Fix for Build Upgrade List, several calculation improvements. Support for 3.1 Mana Regen model.
- Rawr.ShadowPriest: Fix for Build Upgrade List, several calculation improvements.
- Rawr.Tree: Overhaul of casting system, should provide much more useful results.
- Rawr.Elemental: Significant fixes and new features.
- Rawr.RestoSham: Now includes Activity, Overhealing, and Burst Healing. Many calculation fixes/improvements.
- Rawr.Enhance: Lots of calculation improvements.
- Rawr.TankDK: Wide variety of calculation fixes, UI improvements.
- Rawr.DPSDK: Many calculation fixes and new features.
- Rawr.Tankadin: Fixes for armor calculations.
- Rawr.Healadin: Support for 3.0.9 changes.
- Rawr.Hunter: Fix for several calculation bugs.
- Rawr.Retribution: Many calculation changes, new features, improvements, and bug fixes.
- Rawr.Warlock: Initial release. Not fully complete yet, but included in this release of Rawr so that you can see how we're progressing. We still advise using Rawr.Warlock in conjunction with other theorycrafting tools. In particular, pets are not modeled yet, so Demonology specs will be significantly undervalued.

A few questions -

Can you now customize enchants per item? I see items are now listed with an enchants, but not how to customize them.

Would it be possible to have the Optimizer take float inputs? That is, something like "Avoided Attack % <= 0.1".

How do you enable a custom rotation in Cat model? Whenever I change the values in Options, nothing happens.

Figurine - Twilight Serpent is still modelled with its old 5 minute cooldown in Rawr 2.2.0, which was changed to a 2 minute cooldown in 3.08.

1) Yes. Right click, Add Custom Gemming, and choose the gems and enchant you'd like for a new instance of that item.
2) It doesn't already? I'll check on that, but thought it did...
3) The results of the custom rotation are displayed on the Stats tab, at the bottom, though the max dps rotation is still used for rating comparisons.

How does this interact with the optimizer? I create a custom item with different gems and enchant, then give it a blue diamond (no green diamond). The optimizer restricts gems correctly, but changes the enchant.

I'm not sure, actually... Kavan? I think you may need to right click the diamond, and choose the enchant again in that drop down, but that shouldn't be necessary anymore. Hey, that's why this is just beta 1. We'll get it figured out, thanks for pointing it out.

Very exciting, thanks I've been following this for a long time. I love the philosophy behind Rawr. I used to use the BC version of the warlock module, which was excellent, and have missed it throughout tier 7.

So I downloaded the beta, extracted it as usual, started it, closed the welcome message box, and tried to load my character from the armory (from the menu item in the file menu), which it seemed to do, the status window opened, and it did the first two steps quickly, then took a while downloading icons. Then the follow unhandled exception occurred:

(Plenty more text in the error dialogue that I don't think is helpful - the locations of all modules appear correct to me, and versions are all 2.2.0.1).

The status window is still open, and shows the icon caching step as complete.

Character Name: Peppermort
Realm: Jubei'Thos
Region: US

I am running .Net 2.0 SP1 (2.1.21022) on Windows XP Home SP3.

Big thanks to all who have put the effort in to Rawr development, and particular thanks to those responsible for the warlock module. Looking forward to the final result.

EDIT: More information: I went exploring and began manually entering my talents, and the same exception occurred when I got to Everlasting Affliction. The first click on that talent set it off.

I think it would be useful if the optimizer considered resistance against all schools of magic even for non-tanking classes.

I downloaded the new beta, loaded up my old xml-file updated it via armory and hit "optimize". I have both override-options selected and maximal thoroughness enabled.

The new Retribution model is giving twice bigger emphasis on hit rating as 1.9. As a result, when not hitcapped, all items with +hit on them go to the top of upgrades. Which one should be considered more accurate?

Not sure but when i talent in Elemental Weapons and Improved Shields in the enhancment tree for elemental shamans the stats/dps/mps ratings on the stat tab don't change.
Is this a bug?

I just noticed this today - that all output in the comparisons pane seems to be rounded.

This normally isn't a problem - the difference between a 351.3 and a 351.6 dps output isn't terribly relevant, and Rawr will order them correctly regardless. But in cases where you're comparing very small numbers (ie. say, relative stats, where most values range between 0.5-1.5), the rounding produces very skewed numbers.

While it's obvious from looking at the graph which is better/worse, the numbers don't correspond (ie. spellpower valued at "2", when the graph shows it closer to 1.6 or intellect valued at "0" when in reality, it's closer to 0.4 or so).

While it's obviously not a big concern to the simulator itself, and probably not even a practical concern given the relatively large numbers the pane is used to display in most (practical) circumstances - it did catch my attention.

(this applies to 2.1.9, as I haven't had the courage to try the beta software yet)

Can you clarify, Vektor? Numbers have to be rounded somewhere for display. Currently they're rounded to two decimal places for display. Bar widths and sorting are not rounded.

So for relative stat values for a naked mage, I see mp5=0.40, Int=0.22, SP=0.13, ArcSP=0.13, Spr=0.11, Hit=0.08, Crit=0.02. Is that not the level of rounding that you see?

I have some further information about the exception when applying warlock talents that might help to speed the time it takes to find and correct the problem.

Note: this recent round of testing has been done on a different computer from the first (most notably, .NET 3.5 SP1 is installed), but the observable behaviour is the same.

There are two talents that trigger the exception (same exception in both cases).

1. Improved Shadow Bolt. To reproduce this, open a clean Rawr, select the warlock module, navigate to the Destruction talent tree and click on the Improved Shadow Bolt talent. The exception will occur.

2. Everlasting Affliction without Haunt: To reproduce this, open a clean Rawr, select the warlock module, navigate to the Affliction talent tree and select talents until the talent requirements have been met to enable Everlasting Affliction. Click the Everlasting Affliction talent. The exception will occur. Interestingly, if you select enough lower tier talents that Haunt is enabled before you select Everlasting Affliction, you can talent Haunt, and then talent Everlasting Affliction and the exception will not occur. If you then untalent Haunt once Everlasting Affliction is talented with at least one point, the exception will occur.

I'll make an issue for this exception on the Rawr site.

Just one thing after glancing at the new Moonkin module quickly: It seems to rate crit much higher now than haste - both when looking at the relative stat values and at recommended gear upgrades (e.g. it values Boots of Septic Wounds higher than Boots of the Escaped Captive, it was the other way round before). That seems to run kind of opposite to "conventional" Moonkin wisdom, doesn't it?

I'm looking into it (or will as soon as I can load your character profile), but I imagine the answer is that you don't have enough crit. If you over-stack haste, crit can become more valuable. It also depends on your buff selection; if you don't have the buffs set up properly, crit will vastly outweigh haste because crit gives you mana back, whereas haste actually costs you mana.

Edit: It's a bug with The Skull of Gul'dan. I'll fix it forthwith.
