Offscreen drawing is an engineering term, Rawr doesn't seem to use it.
Basically it's like this.
The entire table is kept in memory from top to bottom, and would be 700 pixels high.
The user has a limited "view" of this table, which could be 500 pixels high.
Rather than only draw those 500 pixels whenever they're visible, the table would have the entire 700 pixels available in memory to draw and scroll trough. Thus making scrolling much smoother than it is now.
You could compare it to scrolling up and down in Firefox / IE here on the EJ forums. You'll notice there's no text ghosting or white being drawn while the scrolling takes place. I can't really give much of a better example, as I'm not sure what language Rawr is written in. It's not so much a rawr issue as it is an issue in the way rawr uses whatever windows or .net implementation you're using to draw the tables / scrollviews.
How far along is the documentation? In case I wanted to have a look at the rogue module?
|
What you describe is exactly how the chart already is handled in Rawr. The entire table is rendered to a bitmap in memory, and as you scroll, the appropriately cropped view of that bitmap is rendered to the screen. Are you running it through Mono or something? Due to it being designed this way, scrolling is extremely smooth for me, as well as every other machine I've seen Rawr running on. If you resize the window horizontally, that whole image has to be rerendered, but just scrolling should be completely smooth, and have no ghosting or white bars. I expect that this sort of thing would be screwy on Mono, but is it happening natively for anyone?
Also, the base classes, everything that models have to implement, are almost entirely documented. There's currently some sort of half-done Rogue model, though I doubt it has much commenting or documentation.

I have done some things on my computer recently in updating a few drivers, downloading a program or two, etc, but are there any known issues of something perhaps keeping Rawr from showing up? The old Rawr 2.1.9 still works perfectly but the Beta one refuses to display at all.

The new beta remembers its location on your screen between launches. As Drashian said, it sounds like that saved location is somewhere off your screen. Let me know if what he suggested doesn't help, and I can point you to the config file containing the saved data, which you can delete. If there's a bug here, where it's saving bad positions or something, I'd really like to know about it, so if you end up reproducing it, please let me know. Same for anyone else, too; let me know if this happens to anyone else.

This happened to me with b4. I don't have a clue what caused it, but I'm seeing the same symptoms Fasc is. I haven't had any luck with Drashian's suggestion. I found settings for WindowSize and WindowLocation in Rawr.exe.config, both of which were set to "0, 0", but tinkering with those didn't seem to help. I've uploaded my copy that's giving me trouble to here, if that helps you track down the problem at all.
Edit: I went to go try moving it again, and it worked this time. Not sure what I did the first time, but I was able to retrieve the window. I don't have a dual monitor setup or anything that seems like it could cause that kind of problem, though, so it still seems like it probably disappeared off the screen due to a bug.

Ah hah. Found the bug. It happens if you close Rawr while it's minimized, it saves the window size as 0x0. Thanks guys!

I'm running plain ole Vista 64 bit, with an Ati card, nothing weird installed.
And it's ghosting all over the place and scrolling quite choppy.
Not sure what could be causing it, but I'd be interested in hearing how other users experience this.

I have no problems with scrolling the graphical bars at the right, but scrolling through one of the tabs on the left side is very slow for me (so the labels and checkboxes are ghosting and won't get redrawn until I go below a specific scrolling speed).
Maybe this is what Zurgat means?

I find the same thing on my system, running Windows XP Tablet Edition. Graphical sections (Comparisons, Talents) scroll nicely, but sections made of controls (Stats, Buffs) ghost terribly while they're being scrolled. I had always assumed this was a limitation of Windows Forms, and I wasn't able to find a way around it when I went Googling on my lunch break. I don't have a great amount of experience with Windows GUI programming, though, so I could have just been searching for the wrong thing.

I cannot get Majestic Dragon Figurine to be equipped on my priest in Rawr. The item exists in the database, and from what I can see all the values seem to indicate I should be able to wear it, but when I list all trinkets, it doesn't show up. Is this a bug? or am I missing some setting somewhere?

It probably doesn't have any stats on it. Edit the item in the Item Editor, and add 200 spirit (or whatever constant spirit value it is, I don't recall offhand).

That did the trick. It had 180 Spirit while casting set. Changed it to static spirit. Is this a bug with Rawr that it doesn't consider us "casting"?

Well, it's just not implemented in the priest model yet, that's all. It will be, eventually.

Small nitpick: Battle shout gives 548 AP and Blessing of Might gives 550. As far as I know they both give 550.
Also, I loaded my character from the armoury, set up buffs and such and while browsing went to the Talent comparison page on the right. 2 of my talents there were not marked as present - Righteous Vengeance and Fanatism. So I removed them from the Talent calculator and added them again. As a result, they were now marked as present, but the dps dropped by more than 100.
Also, you said there's an option to remove epic gems incoming, is that present in B6?

In fact Battle shout gives 548 AP and Blessing of Might gives 550 AP. It's prevent Battle shout to overwrite BoM (if both are (un)talented).

Talent specs imported from the Armory are going to be weird (if they work at all), since the Armory still uses 3.0 talent trees, and Rawr uses 3.1 talent trees. Those two talents got dropped from 5pts to 3pts, so the 100dps difference is probably due to you having 5/3 points in it for a moment there, giving 66% more bonus than intended from those two talents. For those classes/specs which had talents change like that, I'd suggest reverting to Untalented, then filling in the talents manually, until the Armory gets updated for 3.1
Tools > Edit Gemming Templates will let you turn on or off epic gems (or rare, or uncommon, or jeweler) gems just by checking/unchecking the checkbox for them. Epic gems are disabled by default though, you must have manually turned them on if you still are seeing any...?

That keeps epic gems from showing up in the gear choices, but they still show up in the gem comparison chart. Not that big of a deal, but still an unnecessary annoyance given that the gems are not and have never been available in game.

Oh, you can filter them from the comparison chart. Just make a filter for epics, applies to gems, and uncheck it.

I can't seem to be able to import the new item changes from ptr.wowhead.com into rawr 2.2.0b61.
When I try to, shoulders dont import correctly and waists throw an error.
Im obviously clicking on the "use ptr data" option but still.
Some help would be appreciated.

The interface improvements in b6 are great. One thing I noticed about the consumable optimizer: it invariably selects Elixir of Demonslaying for physical DPS. Any way to filter these from the consumable optimization, since there aren't a lot of demons to fight in current raid content?

Is there a way to filter the items based on where they drop? Like, I want the Naxx25 and Ulduar10 items to show but not the Ulduar25 ones. The filter system on the right seems a bit outdated.

It's been getting alot of updates lately, from BrWarner. You can try them out in the latest betas, or wait for the release of v2.2, to go along with WoW 3.1.

Using beta 6, Mage model, looking at the Direct Upgrades chart: If I change a piece of gear by clicking on it and selecting from the drop down, all the bars on the Direct Upgrades chart become zero width. If I equip something from the direct upgrades list by right clicking on and selecting Equip, this does not happen.

Out of curiosity, is/are the changes to engineering tinkers, to give them passive abilities, reflected in 3.1 Rawr? I'm interested in seeing how the 23 haste to cloak stacks against the 18 spellpower slowfall tinker at my current gear level.
