This is our guild's second Leo kill. I've done Leo many times before, but not on this character.

On my hunter (current character), I've noticed that I got the Consuming Madness debuff even though I had managed to kill my Inner Demon. My first thought was of course that my pet killed it, but I was nearly 100% sure I left my pet on the boss. Hence, I decided to check out my combat log, and here's what I found.



Does anyone have a clue what went on?

It seems like you had some lag. You get 'Rapid Killing' after 'Insidious Whisper' fades from you. The combatlog does not always list the events in the same order as they occurred on the server. So from the perspective of the server you did not kill your inner demon in time.

On the other hand, is it still necessary to not let the pet do the killing blow on inner demons?

I don't know, this is just what I've heard, so I no longer put my pet on the ID (with varying success, apparently).

Yes I think it is necessary not to let the pet kill the demon, we did it a month ago and ended up with an mc hunter. I thought that is what happened to you but since it was not the case, the lag solution must be the one.

Lag?

We've had situations where someone burned down their demon and still got MCed. It was a resto druid, so there was no pet involved. It's only happened once though. I'm attributing to some sort of client/server lag.

More than likely this is it.

Just BTW, I see that the Inner Demon meleed you, and you meleed the Inner Demon. If you had kept the Inner Demon farther away, you could have used your stronger ranged attacks to kill the demon faster. I would recommend maybe working on your kiting more, or even respeccing for 3 points into increased range to buy more time for your ranged attacks to kill the mob.

Best thing to do (that I've found) is when Inner Demon is getting close, drop a freeze trap and stand in front of it, since the demon spawns directly behind you. If you don't get the demon, worst you've done is waste a little mana and a GCD.

I keep my pet off Leo the whole fight. My pet is there for TBW and to help me with the demon, that's it. Basically trap the demon, Aimed, pet attack/Intimidation, conc, serpent, arcane, steady, auto, steady, dead.

He's usually dead in about 22-25 secs.

I do not have any recent experience with Leotheras, however I distinctly remember that any kind of reflective damage aura (Thorns, Shield Spike, Retribution Aura) getting the killing blow on the demon did not count as the player killing the demon in time.

When I was doing Leotheras (seems a long time ago now) I'd have a spot by the tent on the left of the room, with my pet set on stay behind me. I'd then do PetAttack and PetPassive throughout the fight in order to have him run back to the spot for safety. So when my demon came, I'd have the pet gain agro (Intimidate is amazing <3) and help DPS until about 30%, where I'd set it on passive, and it'd run back to its Stay spot by the tent and the demon would follow, while I'd happily dispatch it. Mend Pet is all that is needed really, though I did have a very friendly Paladin friend who I had raided with since MC with a spare FoL on occasion.

I would imagine so. While leveling my Hunter alt I keep running into quests where you have to get the killing blow to have something happen. The most recent example I can think of is that Wood Mite quest in Terokkar. If my pet gets the killing blow on the Infested Root-walkers then the wood mites don't spawn out of it. It's really really really annoying.
