Blizzard wants WoW to become a competitive esport. However, right now the arena field is plagued by comps and counter-comps. As such, while your critique is valid for the midrange (you stated 1750-1850) which is an important part of the subscriber base and even for the esport aspect, it doesn't address the most important balance of the game which is the very top end.
Imagine the finals game in a 2v2 tournament, with the best players in the world, being decided by class setup before the match even starts. This is the way WoW is right now.

Agreed, composition is by far the most important thing in 2's and 3's arena. If you have a counter comp to another team, you will win a majority of the time unless you screw up badly, the RNG makes none of your attacks crit or the other team has an incredible skill (or gear, in the case of warglaive / t6 rogues) advantage over you.

This is the most important point in this 2.4.2 tangent.

major last minute change added:
|
We've changed the Negative Energy spells cast by M'uru and Entropius to no longer cause spell interruption on the target. This should ease the frustration of the encounter for those casting classes who can not obtain 100% resistance to spell interruption through talents and effects such as Concentration Aura. This change is live immediately on the US realms, and realms in other regions will receive this change with the deployment of the 2.4.2 patch.
|
And also: It looks like Scare Beast still takes 1.5 sec and isn't instant as mentionned in the patch files notes. The notes on the official site have been updated to reflect it changes and we can assume that the 1.5 sec casting time is intended.

Is it interruptible or subject to pushback?

Yes and yes.
Also, the NPC tracking options (find repairs, find stablemaster, etc) seem to be removed. Another 2.4.2 change, or is FuBar_TrackerFu simply in need of an update?

Interesting...does interruption lock out any other spells? Mend pet for example?
I have to confess that I never bothered trying before, since I thought it was more like Steady Shot.

The tooltip clearly states that the change went though however. But my Hunter alt still has to cast it for 1.5 seconds.

I always love the "it doesn't fit my style of play" line. There are only two styles of play; Correct, and Incorrect. The only people that ever use this line are people with the incorrect style of play. -Sebudai

Honestly as a druid, and a feral druid in arena/pvp at that, I think this is a fine change. You upgrade the ability while still leaving in it's counters (LoS, interrupts, etc.) I do think they should probably remove the pushback on it but I'm happy that I didn't freak out like a lot of other people and trusted in Blizzard this once.

The primary problem with scare beast in its pre 2.4.2 state was its range was so small people could easily just run out of range before it finished casting. This change is fine, it didn't need to be instant cast. These band-aid fixes aimed at more counter-comping is not what's going to fix the hunter class in arenas.

I have to disagree with this. SB was very hard to use before due to a combination of it's short range, no pushback prevention, and the biggest thing, being able to instant shift out of forms to nullify it. In fact, it was damn near impossible to use SB without chaining it with either scattershot or freezing trap.
But I'm not going to complain. A buff is a buff, even if it's entirely situational and minor at best.

They appear to have "fixed" pets attacking targets after they stealth/invis.
Unfortunately they've also broken it so that pets refuse to attack these targets even if they're marked. GG bliz.
Edit: Nevermind, whatever they changed only appears to affect warp stalkers so far.

Anyone noticing strangeness with Archimonde's fires?
I don't want to be all "deep breaths more" but it seems that they are lasting longer and able to target melee right off the bat. We've had this fight down for quite a while now and all of the sudden it's giving us fits. I'm enhancement and I've ended up a charred ghost wolf a lot more than in the past.

The castbar icon (showed when using Quartz, among others) for the cast bars used when you interact with objects, like "Opening," is now a gear, rather than nothing or a placeholder Sammy icon.
Also, the "angry skull" graphic for Enrage and Bloodrage now plays the Bloodlust sound when it appears. It's possible Tiger's Fury, Hourglass, etc do too, haven't tested those yet.

After 2.4 the hellfires were going away much more quickly and they weren't targeting anyone anymore, but rather going in random directions. If they are lasting longer now in 2.4.2, perhaps the shorter duration was unintended and they're back to their original duration.

Not sure if this is intended as a nerf, but now when the water elemental dies his corpse sticks around for ~10 seconds like a hunter's pet, and it refuses to re-summon another while the corpse is up.
