The Brutallus recruitment hump
Is anyone else noticing a lack of good recruits for a guild on Brutallus? Just seems to me that we're behind a recruitment wall called not-killing-brut-with-what-we-had-before-2.4.

This type of thing typically always happens during progression content. Skilled individuals who stuck with their old guilds while farming old content may have begun to discover that their old guilds weren't quite good enough to tackle Sunwell, and thus have decided to apply elsewhere. Meanwhile, skilled guilds who in the past have been on shortened raid schedules discover either that their new recruits who were supposed to account for turnover aren't quite as good as they claimed to be, or have some members leave due to circumstances beyond their control, have been aggressively recruiting.
Aggressive recruiting occurs because lacking a member of a certain class on progression encounter can be huge, especially with the difficulty of fights in Sunwell (you can call it class-stacking if you wish). Literally, not having that additional Resto Shaman or that extra Warlock could mean the difference between beating the encounter and not.
Combine the two, and you have skilled individuals desiring a better raid environment, while relatively high-profile, skilled guilds, desire skilled raiders to fill their roster. Guilds on the cusp of being "skilled" (such as your guild) will typically have a hard time attracting the good recruits in this situation, since your guild profile is typical of one of those guilds who farmed T6 content for awhile and are stumbling in Sunwell, a guild that most of the skilled players would like to avoid.

Pretty much what Karakas said. My old guild is pretty much dead and several of my old friends are transferring off to new servers/guilds. Since at this point in time the best recruits you can usually get are in full BT/Hyjal gear they have the option of applying to any guild that is short their class, since as I said, sunwell gear just isn't that widespread yet. Due to this, most of my friends have started at the top and worked their way down in guilds either using wowjutsu or something of the sort as a rough outline. Considering theirs close to 300 horde guilds in sunwell alone, that are at the same point as your guild (kalec dead) or better, the probability that one of the other two or so hundred guilds get the better geared/skilled recruits is pretty high. Combine this with the fact that a lot of people look at Brut as the wall in sunwell, most recruits wont really want to test the water with a guild that hasn't been able to kill him yet due to a number of reasons.

Just wait until screenshots of alpha are leaked or closed/open beta begins. Summer vacation is starting in a week or so for college students, high school students a month from now. Seems like the fun has just started for recruiters / raid leaders.

You guys are scaring me with how accurately you have described the position I am in with regards to recruiting and turnover lately in my guild.

Guilds on Brutallus aren't the only ones having problems finding decently geared recruits. It just feels like there are fewer and fewer people wanting to raid 5 days a week, and too many guilds for such a small population.
Although a similar thing definitely happened during the early days of T6.

With the xpac looming on the horizon, the motivation just isn't there for me and a lot of other people I know. My resto shaman (T5/T6 geared) could easily get picked up but after thinking about it, I think I'm just going to level one of my alts to 60 before the xpac hits. It's feels like before BC all over again when my guild was pushing KT hard and we were busting our asses to get him down before release. Too much effort required for a reward that will evaporate almost instantly.

This seems like it could very easily degenerate into one of those threads where people complain endlessly about gear resets and "casual epix".

It's an interesting dilemma to be sure. The difference in the quality of recruits I had available to my guild after we had killed Felmyst compared to the 2nd alliance guild on my server that had only killed Kalec was astounding. Of course, it didnt hurt my efforts that Wowjutsu had us erroneously listed as 3rd guild in the world for a few days after that Felmyst downing.

Yeah our leadership did drop the ball by not recruiting enough pre-2.4. Now our GM resigned and I'm spinning my wheels waiting for the rest of the guild to get back on the track of progression.
Sorry if this seems like a vent of frustration (it is), but I'm sure there's many other people who are in the same situation.

The best thing you can do to counter this is preemptively recruit. I don't really know if there is much else to be said.

Depending on many factors, this comment has the potential to be extremely short-sighted. Recruitment is never really easy unless you're a high profile guild that the best people actually seek out based on world ranking or renown otherwise. Unless you know for a fact that your guild leadership wasn't trying to get recruits in at all and were just sitting on their thumbs all day, theres a very real chance that they simply were not able to get the right kind of recruits for your guild at the right time due to reasons that have nothing to do with dropping any balls.

I agree with the posters above who have said that many raiders will feel unmotivated due to the fact that WotLK is looming and Sunwell will be the last new instance preceding its release. Combine this with the release of many competing MMORPGs in the near future and recent past.
But speaking for myself, I would hate to leave the game unfinished... don't people want to down Kil'Jaeden before the expansion comes out?
I would hate to have been close on KT pre TBC and then moved on to Ramps normal instead.

The problem is magnified again by being and oceanic based guild. We recently merged and now our roster is pretty well rounded but in the past 3 weeks of bumping recruitment posts on MMO Champ and WoR as well as realm forum posts i'm yet to see a _single_ app, not even Kara level people who used to apply in the truckloads. The problem lies that there are around 8 Oceanic guilds with Felmyst down and the rest of the players are working through SSC or something.

This really isn't anything new. WoW is a highly seasonal game especially if you have college aged guild members. They are going through finals and/or finishing so they play less. It's finally starting to be nice and warm in many areas so people start to go outside more and play less.

This isn't really new, gear check etc.
I just don't see anything useful coming out of this thread.
