Panic and Speed are the only drums that still work on level 80 characters.
Restoration, Battle and War tooltips have been modified accordingly.

It doesn't change the validity of your point, though.

It's arguably not. It's a 2 stamina bonus right now, assuming the BS doesn't have access to epic gems.

However, BS sockets are flexible, you can put DPS gems in your DPS pieces, you can put int gems in your paladin healing gear, etc. Also, the BS sockets will be superior to toughness once epic gems come into the picture. If you were given the choice between having 450 BSing or 450 mining instantly for free, any sane person would pick BSing. The overall long-term benefits easily compensate for the 2 less stamina in the current game.

As far as making money, it's a symptom of how good the bonus sockets are. If blacksmiths didn't get the bonus sockets, and instead had some fairly weak bonus like tailoring, I bet you could make a lot more money crafting BS items because there wouldn't be as much competition. Similarly, if mining gave the best passive bonus in the game, everyone would be a miner and finding free nodes would become extremely difficult. Mining would quickly lose it's reputation as an amazing money maker when you can't find any nodes. If the profession has a powerful personal benefit, more people will take it. If more people take it, the market is split among that many more people, which means less profit for any given individual.

90 - 40 = 50, he took that into account already.

It's worth noting Leatherworking also has FR enchant and NR enchant, a perk that as far as I can tell no other profession has except for Alchemy's bonus to Chromatic Flask(s) (which isn't nearly as good, but its the only thing on a similar vein). And obviously, also the spellpower enchant for Holy Paladins or Resto/Balance Druids.

Some 3.0.8 blacksmithing changes:

3.0.8 PTR Blacksmithing Changes - WotLK Wiki

Tempered titansteel helmet (tanking plate) goes from 'meh' to worth using with the addition of a meta socket and a blue socket. On the down side, the spiked titansteel helmet (dps plate) gets a bit of a nerf.

I guess this means we need to check Heroics which currently don't drop JC designs?

Or Ulduar, perchance?

I've read a couple of pages back, and didn't see anyone make mention of this, but currently in the PTRs, does anyone know the specific changes they're making to not only the increase of material components required for the Icebane gear... but also the changes to the stats on the Swordsmithing specific (Corroded Saronite Edge and Corroded Saronite Woundbringer) weapons? I haven't seen anything yet on the specifics.

Edit: Nevermind, I just saw it, thanks

Personally I think that wouldn't make sense, the word "Classism" would come to mind as this hurts certain classes more than others.
Design wise it would seem weird to have a few selected gems from a raid instance as well.

I'd expect them as drops from either Instances, certain outdoor mobs or added to existing or new Quartermasters. (i'll try and see if EU PTR works this afternoon to check if there's new faction rewards.)

A quick search on wowhead reveals, these instances don't have any Designs listed as drop:
- The Culling of Stratholme
- Gundrak

So they'd be the places to search for new Designs first.

There's a meta gem recipe listed as dropping from Oculus in either mode. I've done the Heroic a couple of times now and not seen it - does it in fact only drop on normal mode? If so, Oculus Heroic would be a good candidate for another design.

Another possibility is Icecrown mobs, based partly on the fact that a good number of JC recipes drop off of Storm Peaks mobs (a similar level zone) and partly on this patch note:

Some neglected creatures in Icecrown have found the contents of their pockets.

The Icecrown reference regards pickpocketing, as mobs that should be pickpocketable are not.

There are a whole slew of missing JC recipes, by the way, not like 1 or 2. So they need to just dump them on the loot tables of a lot of mobs, such as the "kill this mammoth, get a recipe" type. Instances can't/won't cover it.

I wonder if they were supposed to be in Crystalsong? I assume that will get properly populated and filled with quests some day. OTOH I don't want to wait for a whole new zone just for a few JC recipes.

Having Dragon's Eyes use the same token as the recipes is good from the PoV of seeing both as an income stream, however it has the side effect of denying guild JCs access to their class perk until they've got all the recipes needed by the other people in the group. Hence the chance of getting Dragon's Eyes from the transmute.
Prospecting will likely remain profitable. Even when epic gems were available for badges in TBC, you could still make a pretty fair amount of gold off prospecting adamantite for rare gems. The profits weren't at their previous levels, but there was still plenty of money to be made by those not wanting to spend their badges on epic gems and weren't able to run T6 content. Considering we're only just into emblem gear, we have more to look forward to. There's also a fair amount to spend emblems on right now with heirloom gear and frozen orbs available for badges, not to mention a couple of T7 pieces and pvp gear.
