These aren't that low a drop rate. I'm actually getting them on the first kill on any of those mobs, and while it's theoretically possible for me to be that lucky, I think it's just a case of a 100% drop rate if you don't have the recipe and are a jewelcrafter, and it not dropping at all if you are not a jewelcrafter or already having it. That would also skew the WoWhead drop chances a lot.

It certainly did not drop for me so far from any mammoths in the lower-level zones, although my skill has not been high enough to learn it yet. So this probably also requires sufficient skill (much like the book for heavy frostweave bandage) and/or only drops from higher-level mammoths.

While the recipes require sufficient skill to learn, seeing them drop only requires you have the tradeskill, even 1/450 will do the trick.

Not always true - I saw the heavy frostweave bandage book drop but could not roll on it or loot it because my skill was not high enough. Later when I raised my skill I was able to roll on another one that dropped.

Same seems to happen with the cooking recipes for "emotion foods" (last week's mammoth, etc). Players who have cooking but too low skill cannot roll on them.

I got them too off the very first mob of each of those types I killed. I even got the Defender's Twilight Opal pattern from each of the first three Stormforged I killed (since they attacked in a group I didn't learn it before all three were dead)! Either we're all extremely lucky or it is indeed a 100% drop rate.

And in Namoya's list it should be "Any mammoth in Storm Peaks" not "Any mammoth in Northrend" for Accurate Monarch Topaz.

I can confirm the bit about cooking recipes - the sad Clams dropped last night in UK, and apparently I was the only one with 350+ cooking, so only I could roll on it.

This could definitely be an interesting addition to world drops...if the drop rate is increased as long as you have the skill required, grinding out certain recipes might not be that big of a deal (I'm looking at you, Major Fire Protection Potion). On the other hand, your 365 enchanter won't be able to roll on Mongoose =/

There's one meta design being overlooked.

Design: Bracing Earthsiege Diamond - Eregos in Occulus (Any difficulty)

I've got it yesterday along with ones from HoL and UP. They indeed appear to be 100% drop.

Ironically this won't be a problem due to Leatherworkers using the epic armorkits for leveling the profession. I sold about 8-10 kits yesterday to guildies for mat prices and won't even be able to sell the kits I still have due to prices for the finished product diving below the production costs. Don't know whether this is a typical effect on all servers but generally speaking I had the choice between grinding/buying eternals or buying furs, the latter beeing the cheaper alternative that also offered better chances to recoup the costs via selling (something which isn't mentioned in every leatherworking guide).

Personally I'm considering dropping tailoring for JC as it seems to be a better DPS increase and have better profession spesifics but seeing how fast naxx went down I'm not quite sure I see the need.

I'm finding enchanting horrible to level at the moment seeing as people are selling infinite dust for 20 per which is ridiculous as it should be the WOTLK equivalent of arcane dust. Just to get by enchanting vellums and selling them seems to be the only sane way to level enchanting without having to hook for gold :P

I've yet to see any world tailoring/enchant drops though loads of cooking and yea I've only seen 350+ people get to roll on recipes.

[Plans: Reinforced Cobalt Chestpiece] dropped for me from Venture Co. mobs in Sholazar Basin. It's four Cobalt and orange until 415 skill, so it definitely caught my attention. There seems to be a few other items in the set, as well:

Well I actually failed in my enchanting leveling as I wasted several enchants re-enchanting gear instead of putting it on vellums to sell. That's my own goof, I could have made back about 1k gold of my investment likely. The dust is expensive now because of demand, and it'll settle down in a few months. Essences are likely to remain high for a long time as all the good weapon chants take a large number of essences. Dream Shards are going to plummet in price after people buy their formula, the few decent recipes that utilize them do not require more than one or two.

The reality is as Hobbes illuminated: enchanting requires a HUGE investment to level. Considering there's minimal personal financial benefit to maxed enchanting, it's definitely something you do for the guild. After about 405 you're just not going to get many skill ups from your own greens/blues due to the huge mat cost.

You can take a few paths at that point: just slowly level it over time as people need the decent enchants you can actually do; slowly level it with vellums and your own mats from grinding/running instances; get several people to mail you all of their greens from leveling BS/Tailoring/Lwing; pay a ridiculous gold cost for the AH mats from people who are going to wait till prices come down to actually level chanting. Armsman was amazing for getting from 435 to 440: the eternal's are much cheaper than enchanting mats, and any miner guild member will be happy to donate you eternal earths just to get rid of them.

I had a lot of greens forwarded to me and I still had to spend a decent amount of gold. One positive thing: 440 is all you need to get to at the moment, every current formula is usable at that skill. If you're concerned about money at all, just go the slower path. The only reason to rush it is to have access to chants for raiding.

Ugh, I was hoping that it wasn't the actual required level. It doesn't seem to make sense that the requirement is so high given I've seen it drop off mobs lower than 77. It really should list the requirement on it. Sadly my JC is probably going to be my last character leveled, so I'll just have to hold onto those things till I get around to it.

I did see a tailoring shirt recipe drop in Drak'theron on beta. I forget the name or whether it would have been a good skillup recipe. Not sure if that was a world drop or specific to that instance/mob.

Can anyone confirm whether you need 1, 350, or the actual 390 required to learn the recipe to get the BoP JC world drops? There seems to be some unresolved disagreement on this point on this very page, and while I have the 0-350 mats banked, I'd rather not take the time to power that up, much less go the extra mile for 350-390, before hitting 80.

The really insane profession to level at the moment seems to be Inscription. I've been (trying to) make Darkmoon Cards of the North, but they require an utterly insane amount of mats when you consider herb prices these days.

Herb prices are somewhat insane. Last night I hit 400 Alchemy and was eager to do my first bit of research. Having only just finished my tour of the Fjord I didn't have the Adder's Tongue or Talandra's Rose necessary, so I figured I'd just spend the 50g or whatever it would take to get the mats I needed. Then I saw the 350g+ price tags for full stacks.

Depending on the server's population it's likely it'll be a month or so before the materials markets stabilize. In the meantime if you don't want to be the victim of price gouging you'll have to collect your own mats.

Adder's Tongue, and to a lesser extent Talandra's Rose, have been very hard to find. Which is really frustrating to complete the research discovery or, in my case, the alch trinket.

Based on the only source data allakhazam showed I was killing and herbing trees in the Coldara area for over an hour and only ended up with a couple Adder's Tongues. So this doesn't seem like a good source. Since the data to these sites is still trickling in, I'd be grateful for any pointers to more reliable sources. From what I've read in a couple of Blizzard forum posts Sholazar Basin is where I need to head.

Scholazar Basin is definitely the right place to go. The herbs are plentiful and at least on my server there aren't as many players with flying mounts so collecting them is very easy. Gorgonnash-US-alliance herb prices are holding pretty steady at about 90g per stack of any herb from Northrend. Made for paying off my cold weather flying skill purchase very quick and painless.

I can't say for sure about the world drops off trash mobs but you can definitely get the JC designs that drop off instance bosses at less than the skill required to make the gems. I'm at 410ish now and had 2 of the boss meta gem designs drop that require 420 skill. I don't know if you can get them below 350, though, as I started Northrend at 375.

However, since apparently the world drop recipes are all 100% drops for JCers who don't have them yet, I don't think you have to worry about power leveling JC before 80 since you can just go around at 80 and kill one mob each of the required kind.

Definitely go to Sholazar Basin. While the mobs were 4-6 levels higher than me (I'm level 72) it wasn't difficult to get at nodes or deal with the odd aggroed mob so long as I made sure to take them one at a time. The same is true for Zul'drak where Taladra's Rose can be found. Within a hour of discovering the absurd cost of mats on the AH I had already gathered what I'd needed (along with a few new flight paths).

Also, try to cross reference with Thottbot and Wowhead when looking for information this early in the expansion. Each website has its own peculiarities which can mislead you if you don't double check.

Re: Chicken.
My mate and I were farming Saronite in Sholazar when it dropped, and we were required to clear quite alot of Mammoths to reach some of the veins. I'd say we killed at least 20 mammoths. The "1%" was just what I saw on WoWHead, and there were reports of people getting them from mammoths all over Northrend, so I just assumed. Perhaps a better description would be "any Mammoths above level 75."

Re: Valerys
You don't require the skill to loot it. Your example of the Heavy Frostweave Bandage book is incorrect - when I looted the book I hadn't made a single Frostweave Bandage. As soon as I looted it, I started making them so I could use the book. Same goes for the cooking recipes. (Mek is correct)

Re: Namoya
Thanks for the list! So far I've farmed up [Defender's Twilight Opal], [Radiant Forest Emerald] and [Eternal Earthsiege Diamond] - and it would appear they all have 100% drop chances. I suspect this trend will continue with the rest of the Recipes. I'm only 78 at the moment, but once I get 80 I'll start hitting the Heroics to confirm.

Re: Jubling
WoWHead lists them as having a 4G Vendor price. Were you able to Vendor the un-learned recipes? If this is the case, you could technically farm a crapload of money in no time - with a guaranteed 4g+ per mob. (I'll test this when I get home from work tonight) The recipe stops dropping once you've learned it, correct?

Re: GTtheBard
Are you sure you weren't the only person with cooking full-stop? It's always been that if you don't have the tradeskill, you can't see the recipe on the corpse/roll on it. (See my reply to Valerys)

Re: Dustwhisper
It's natural of a new market to be horribly over-inflated. On the day of Wrath release, Cobalt Ore was on the AH for over 250g per stack. Give it a month or two, and it'll be down to 20.

Re- Looting recipes: Had the Heavy Frostweave Bandage book drop in an instance, I was the only one able to roll on it. I had 400 first aid (the skill required). One person already had it, the other three had first aid, but were not yet 400, and couldn't see it.

On beta I picked up three JC patterns from the normal instances on the first run through - I wasn't high enough to learn them, but I was the only JC there.

So I would assume (and judging by the other comments), that when (some? all?) recipes drop-

- if you don't have the skill at all, you can't see it
- if you do have the skill, and are high enough to learn it (and don't have it), you will be able to roll
- if you do have the skill, but are not high enough to learn it *and are in a group with someone who is*, you won't be able to roll - but if no-one in your group is able to use it on the spot, then you will be able to roll.

With the conflicting comments in this thread, I'd say this is likely. When the First Aid book dropped for me, we were all able to roll, but I'm quite certain that none of us had the skill to actually use it.
