I am seriously concerned about how Enchanting is going to work out in the long term. The mat prices are going up, not down. Abyss Crystals are now 250g EACH on my server. In the patch they are reducing the dusts/essences required, but Abyss Crystal requirements are staying the same. In addition, the new Titanguard/Greater Stamina enchant recipies require 5 Abyss Crystals to purchase, and every single tank in the game is going to need 4 Abyss Crystals for the Major Stamina enchant. The drain is going to be immense. I can easily see Abyss Crystals doubling in price, which means that a Fury Warrior that wants double Berserking can expect to pay 11,000 gold just to enchant his weapons. Even a "modest" price increase to 300g will mean he's spending at least 7,000. I'm glad that I'm a LW, because as a tank I sure wouldn't look forward to having to spend 1200-1800g every time I upgraded a bracer. And I know I have it easy, compared to casters who are looking at 3000-5000g for a spellpower enchant on every weapon upgrade.

Abyssal Crystals should not be the biggest issue once naxx10 pugs get to be competent enough to safely clear the instance, and loot starts getting disenchanted. But yes, in the timespan straight ahead of us, I'm with you on that. However, the positive side for anyone in a capable guild is running naxx10 for Abyssal Crystals to sell/stack up.

Xequecal - Im assuming that your playing on a small server (or low ally fraction).
On my server hordes are like 65-75% of the population, but still Abyss crystals are around 100g max - Naxx 10 can be cleared with 10retards, so given time the supply will meet the demand.
250g each seems way above a realistic long term value.

In a few weeks every competent guild will have Abyss crystals coming out of their noses. The first few weeks every item that drops is either an upgrade or an offspec item for someone. The only supply of crystals is people disenchanting purples they upgraded.
Now, the sixth (?) reset of the expansion, we're disenchanting half of the loot we get in Naxx because nobody needs it for even their offspecs. I can't imagine other guilds being much different because there is so much overlapping loot in that place (the droprate seeminly endless amounts of leather and tanking gear is starting to get annoying) plus that you get a mighty 58 items every week from *just* Naxx 25.
As more guilds are getting to this point and people randomly clear Naxx 10 on off-days I expect Abyss crystals to behave like void crystals in TBC. They'll drop to 30-40 gold in a matter of weeks.

For the past few days Minor Inscription Research just creates a scroll of Recall for me instead of discovering a new recipe. However, I still do not have a few (about 5) minor glyphs. Anyone know what the issue might be or is it intended?

Are you absolutely sure you are missing minors? When I learned all the minors, I thought I still had like 5 left myself but I did some checking and it turns out I did have them all I just didn't realize it. On beta there were problems- with northrend inscription research I would often not get any discovery for days and then it'd start working again, but I have never run into this problem on live.

I think there's at least one addon that regularly swaps between trackers. Can't remember what it's called though.

One of my guildmates has commented on this as well where he isn't learning any new minor glyphs. He has not actually checked if he is missing any though. My Inscription alt is still getting glyphs though, but I have missed a handful of days where I didn't do my research.
There were some minor glyphs removed from the game that Wowhead might still show. I'm not 100% sure on that though.

What is your skill?
I believe that minors can have skill requirements higher than a researcher has, and in that case, won't be discovered until you raise your inscription skill. My mage has done repeated researches without getting a glyph, and I believe this is the reason why.

Going by this chart Inscription - Recipes - World of Warcraft it makes sense that there are minor glyphs you cannot obtain if your skill is not sufficient to craft them. I would suggest anyone experiencing this problem to reference the list to see if they have all listed below their skill level.
Another way to look at this list is for those major's which discovery only, Inscription - Recipes - World of Warcraft and again comparing your current skill to your learned set.

Looking at that list of minor glyphs, I've got an anecdote to counteract this theory. In the gap between the 3.0 patch and WotLK actually being released I got Glyph of Souls from the Minor Inscription Research. At the time this recipe was orange and completely uncraftable because Ink of the Sea wasn't available. I can't remember the level I got it at but it would've been lower than about 340 or so because that's as high as I went pre-WotLK given anything over that and you were crafting for points off green recipes. That link suggests 355 as the minimum (yellow, doesn't have an orange listing).

Yah, it doesn't have an orange listing, that's the thing to note. Your data is consistent with that chart if its orange value is lower than its yellow value.
My scribe is currently capped at skill 300, because he's 40th level. Minor inscription research has on multiple occasions now done nothing but produce scrolls. My scribe does not have that recipe. He also doesn't have Shadowfiend, or Blood Tap, or Enduring Victory, or Horn of Winter. He does have Corpse Explosion, so its reverse-engineered orange number must be at or below 300.
Neat chart. Thanks. There is an extremely clear cutoff point. My 300-skill scribe has everything that goes grey at 315 or lower, and nothing else.
(I have to get the guy to 50th level soon...)

It doesn't have an orange listing because it doesn't have a "learn" point. There's no trainer or recipe listing the minimum skill required (the "orange" start)
Regarding minors, both "official" scribes of my guild have pretty much near max skill and we stopped at 55 minor glyphs, and none of us has been able to find a new one. I think I can safely concluded that the remaining glyphs in the WoWhead database aren't in the list of researchable glyphs, whether by design or omission.
Of course, patch 3.0.8 adds 4 new minors.

My inscriber is at level 70 with 400 Inscription and is not discovering new recipes through Minor Research. One of the recipes I have not discovered is the Glyph of Renewed Life which only requires 155 inscription according to WoWhead. This does not seem consistent with the theory in the last few posts unless the missing glyphs aren't actually in the game and only on WoWhead.

My guild forum lists all 60 minor glyphs (6 per class) and each of them has several scribes that know it.

As I did my inscription research, each day I added the minor glyph discovered to a list. This list was never cross-referenced from wowhead, nor have I ever gone through my inscription panel to compare. I simply added the name of the glyphs I discovered as I did so. When I reached the point of getting no new discoveries, that list contained exactly six minor glyphs per class, something I felt like could not be coincidence. However, that makes for a total of 60 minor glyphs, which contradicts earlier comments in this thread.
Here is that list, unaltered:
Warlock:
[Glyph of Unending Breath]
[Glyph of Drain Soul]
[Glyph of Curse of Exhaustion]
[Glyph of Souls]
[Glyph of Enslave Demon]
[Glyph of Kilrogg]
Shaman:
[Glyph of Astral Recall]
[Glyph of Water Walking]
[Glyph of Water Breathing]
[Glyph of Renewed Life]
[Glyph of Ghost Wolf]
[Glyph of Water Shield]
Druid:
[Glyph of Thorns]
[Glyph of Aquatic Form]
[Glyph of Challenging Roar]
[Glyph of the Wild]
[Glyph of Unburdened Rebirth]
[Glyph of Dash]
Paladin:
[Glyph of Blessing of Wisdom]
[Glyph of Lay on Hands]
[Glyph of Blessing of Might]
[Glyph of the Wise]
[Glyph of Blessing of Kings]
[Glyph of Sense Undead]
Rogue:
[Glyph of Blurred Speed]
[Glyph of Vanish]
[Glyph of Pick Pocket]
[Glyph of Pick Lock]
[Glyph of Distract]
[Glyph of Safe Fall]
Hunter:
[Glyph of Possessed Strength]
[Glyph of the Pack]
[Glyph of Revive Pet]
[Glyph of Feign Death]
[Glyph of Mend Pet]
[Glyph of Scare Beast]
Mage:
[Glyph of the Penguin]
[Glyph of Frost Armor]
[Glyph of Frost Ward]
[Glyph of Arcane Intellect]
[Glyph of Fire Ward]
[Glyph of Slow Fall]
Warrior
[Glyph of Bloodrage]
[Glyph of Mocking Blow]
[Glyph of Charge]
[Glyph of Enduring Victory]
[Glyph of Battle]
[Glyph of Thunder Clap]
Death Knight:
[Glyph of Blood Tap]
[Glyph of Death's Embrace]
[Glyph of Horn of Winter]
[Glyph of Corpse Explosion]
[Glyph of Raise Dead]
[Glyph of Pestilence]
Priest:
[Glyph of Shadow Protection]
[Glyph of Shadowfiend]
[Glyph of Fortitude]
[Glyph of Fading]
[Glyph of Levitate]
[Glyph of Shackle Undead]
I began doing research at 3.0 release and rarely missed a day. Before the release of LK I had discovered multiple Death Knight glyphs, as well as [Glyph of Shadowfiend] which requires Northrend ink. I made a discovery every attempt until I reached this point. Once I was no longer getting new ones, I continued to do the minor discovery for three more days and then stopped. If anyone finds any discrepancies, please let me know.

I got a list on a spread sheet, and it has 60 minor glyphs. I stopped doing minor research the day I didn't make a discovery. Since your list is also 60 glyphs long, Sydane, I'm fairly confident both of our lists should cover the same glyphs.

Minor Glyphs
As noted above, there should be 6 minors for each class, but you'll need at least 350 skill to gain the full set. The minimum skill for minors is the "yellow skill" minus 5 (as listed here). The wildcard was Glyph of the Bear Cub, the 7th Mage glyph, which was in the beta, but hasn't appeared on a live servers. Generally I'd advise examining data for items found in the game world, not spells found in the game client. The glyph spell list was messy around the time of WotLK's launch, with a lot of "glyphs" that no longer existed as glyphs.
The minor research tooltip says, "Create random scrolls in an effort to discover new minor glyph recipes." The "effort to" implies a chance that one might fail. I can only make the observation that for the first 60 days of live 3.0.x, I always found something on a character with 350+ skill. I have however had failed (scroll only) research on the 3.0.8 PTR, while having the 4 new minors outstanding (which I did subsequently discover). But that could be a glitch associated with shifting a character onto the PTR.

I've had a fail on a Minor research one day (Scroll of Recall only), then succeeded for the next three, and then failure for another two days after which I stopped researching. I haven't counted how many minors I ended up discovering. So it can fail, but I have no idea under what circumstances.
Edit: I got home and counted my minors, and I too have 60. I also noticed that [Glyph of Water Shield] has the wrong icon (should be blue as a minor, not red), because it ruined my counting for a couple of minutes.

I noticed this thing in the updated PTR patch notes. "Added a new recipe for Ethereal Oil to grand master alchemy trainer" The EU PTR hasn't been updated, so I can't check for myself. Any idea what the Ethereal Oil does?

Some interesting changes:

Alchemy- The Cooldown on Transmute: Titanium has been reduced to 1 day, and the materials required have been simplified.
- Reduced the cooldown on Northrend Alchemy Research from 7 days to 3 days.
- The chance to discover a Northrend transmutation has been increased.
- Changed the Crazy Alchemist Potion so it always gives health and mana. It also grants the benefit of another random potion effect.
- Potion of Nightmares functionality changed. You can now move to interrupt the effect, and damage taken is no longer increased while you are under the effects of this potion.
- Added a new recipe for Ethereal Oil to grand master alchemy trainers.
- You can now discover a recipe for the Elixir of Water Walking with Northrend Alchemy Research.
Blacksmithing- Increased the materials required to make several recipes that require cobalt.
- Added a new recipe for shield reinforcements that increases the block value of shields.
Cooking- A recipe has been added for Kungaloosh. You can learn this recipe from an NPC in the Dalaran sewers once you have completed the quest 'The Taste Test' in Sholazar Basin.
- A recipe for the incredible Fish Feast can now be purchased for Dalaran Cooking Awards.
- Succulent Orca Stew and Shoveltusk Soup have been removed from the requirements for any cooking achievements as they will not be added to the game.
- A new recipe for Worg Tartare is now available for purchase with Dalaran Cooking Awards. This delicacy imbues hit rating and Stamina upon those brave enough to eat it.
Enchanting- Many high level enchantment recipes have had the amount of Infinite Dust and Greater Cosmic Essence requirements significantly reduced, but with Dream Shards being added to them.
- Increased the Fire damage inflicted by the Icebreaker weapon enchantment.
- Reduced the armor penalty granted by the Berserking weapon enchantment.
- Added a new recipe to enchant bracers with Stamina. You can buy this recipe from Vanessa Sellers in Dalaran.
- Added a new recipe to enchant a weapon with Stamina. You can buy this recipe from Vanessa Sellers in Dalaran.
Engineering- Reduced the cooldown and increased the duration of the effect for Hyperspeed Accelerators.
- Added a new recipe for epic plate spell power goggles.
- Weakness Spectralizers are now usable by druids.
- The Saronite Bomb recipe now creates a lot more bombs for the same material cost. While this breakthrough was discovered by goblins, all engineers can take advantage of it.
- Gnomish Lightning Generator has had its cast time and cooldown reduced.
Inscription- Jessica Sellers, a new vendor in the Dalaran inscription shop, will sell most inscription inks for the cost of one Ink of the Sea. She also sells Snowfall Ink for multiple Inks of the Sea.
- A new recipe for Glyph of Arcane Blast has been added to Master and Grand Master Inscription trainers.
- Glyph of Death Decay has been changed to grant 20% additional damage instead of its current effect.
- Glyph of Invisibility duration has been increased.
Jewelcrafting- Added a new recipe to convert a frozen orb and some green quality gems into several superior quality gems.
- Reduced the spell power granted by the use effect of "Figurine - Twilight Serpent", but reduced the cooldown significantly.
Leatherworking- The epic leg armor patches now require a Frozen Orb in addition to their other materials.
Mining- Mining veins and deposits no longer require multiple hits to receive all the ore. Players will receive around the same amount of ore, stone, and gems they would have received from multiple hits.
Tailoring- Reduced the cloth required to make a Bolt of Imbued Frostweave.
- Simplified the materials required for Shining Spellthread and Azure Spellthread.
- Reduced the eternals required to make Brilliant Spellthread and Sapphire Spellthread, but increased the number of Iceweb Spider Silk.
- Greatly reduced the materials required to make the self-only tailoring leg enchants (Master's Spellthread and Sanctified Spellthread), but these recipes no longer grant any skill gains.
- Reduced the training cost for the normal Flying Carpet.
- Ebonweave now requires the tailor to be in the Maw of Neltharion in Dragonblight to create it.
- Spellweave now requires the tailor to be at the Azure Dragonshrine in Dragonblight to create it.
|
I particularly like the Tailoring changes, making the specialty cloth will be a lot easier now.
Being able to mine a full node a single hit is nice too, though I can see it being even more prone to people ninja-mining while you fight the mobs around it.

Some of these "PTR changes" are not on the PTR at all. Ethereal Oil and Glyph of Arcane Blast most obviously, and if Worg Tartare is available, it is well hidden. Likewise there are a lot of changes on the PTR that are still not in the patch notes. Some are not insignificant to overall balance, such as the the addition of Pymgy Suckerfish to half the catches from pools, or doubling the amount of vellum gained from recipes. And I'm only tracking a few of the professions... I'm not sure anyone alive actually knows everything that's in a WoW patch anymore.

Unfortunately, those changes to tailoring still do not address the lackluster personal benefit for having tailoring as a profession compared to some of the other crafting professions with more pronounced benefits.

Thank god on the mining change. No more wars over a node, just walk up, click it, all done. This will increase respawn timers all over the zone so in the end it's a good thing. Faster nodes get mined, faster they pop up somewhere else.

Without fireleaf and fireseed herbalism seems to have lost its only dps increase. Am i right in my assumption that it is the only profession that does not offer one now? Has tehre been any type of alternative mentioned for herbalism that i have missed?
