good luck using fire for PvP against anyone who gears for PvE. Most everyone who runs MC and beyond will have ~100 FR while not in their fire resist set, and upwards of 250 when in FR gear.

The ability to create crystal water usually designates a quality style of play.

Are you guys all too lazy to swap out FR gear?

No, it's just that a lot of quality FR gear is also quality PvP gear, and a lot of tier 1 gear has FR anyway. That being said you can do just fine as a fire mage (look at tseng) but I'm not about to spec an enemy. ;)

Dood, in my PvP gear I have 150FR minimum. I can easily swap in a couple of pieces if I'm stealthing to a mage and be at 250.

I wrote out a long post but accidentally deleted it.

So if I were you id go fire arcane 30-21.

Good all around build that has some pop to it. Seeing as most allies dont have decent FR yet (only rogues ive noticed) you wont have to worry too much about resists. I'm fire and I really dont have a problem.

DM trinket = 10fr
tier 1 hat with libram = 30fr
tier 1 belt = 7 fr
Drakesfire Epaulets = 10 fr
Pyremail wristguards of the eagle= 10 fr
dragonslayers signet = 10fr
Storm Gauntlets = 10 fr
+5 to all resists on cloak = 5 fr

So those are all normal wear most of the time items, and im cruising at 92FR. If I wanted to actually sacrifice stats I could get a hell of a lot more.

even with only 92, a fire mage would have problems burning through my 3800 hp before I killed him.

Ice is just superior currently, since no one has any frost resist, plus its useful in PvE

The only time I have trouble with people is when they're at 175+ FR, 92 FR does a lot less for you than you really think. Plus, like Ayle said, there's not a lot of people running around with a whole lot of FR on.

Frost has a lot better survivability than fire, but fire is so much more bursty, with PoM and Pyroblast especially. Being able to frontload 3k damage before the enemy has a chance to react is nice, but being able to snare quickly and block out of sticky situations is also nice.

Really, as a mage you are a DPS class regardless of what spec you choose. I've been Fire/Arc, Ice/Arc, and now Arc/Fire. I sucked in PvP with all 3 of the specs, so you just have to kind of play the specs and see which one you enjoy the most, then go with that.
