Metzen @ New York Comic Con 2009 - Scrolls of Lore Forums is the thread, the revelation that there is a new aspect of magic is first post on page 9. Medievaldragon is a very highly respected member of the blizzplanet and scrollsoflore community and is often trusted with early release docs for the WoW Comics etc.
I don't think it is Med'an simply because he's thought to be the new guardian of tirisfal although I suppose he could end up with both roles considering the guardian of tirisfal is imparted a great deal of magic and the theory at the moment (from that very same thread) is that Medivh passed his power on to the child (which the theory states is his) prior to his death, and subsequent resurrection by his mother (who I found out is living in theramore!) to play the part of prophet for wc3.
Edit: hate to post a bunch of stuff in short succession so just going to add thoughts to this post.
I suppose it makes sense for the relatively inexperienced, but incredibly powerful Med'an to take the role of unlikely savior of the universe like in many other fantasy series - most recognisably Star Wars where Luke ends up being one of the most powerful Jedi ever to exist after being fathered by someone who was also incredibly powerful but ended up being corrupted!
