Watching the FotLK cinematic again, I thought of something: What if the predicted Scourge running rampart, washing over the world like locusts isn't just a side-effect of the Lich King's demise, but an intended fail-safe mechanism implemented by the Legion? In case the Lich King fails to conquer a world, at least his end triggers a "cleansing" of the world from "Life". That life cannot be converted to demonity and used as replenishment for the Legions troops anymore, but at least the world itself is ripe to be plucked, its resources are available, both material and whatever magic 'survived' the Scourge.
This would also explain how Terenas knew about this, slash the Lich King himself, of course he would use that "blindly swarming over the world", but can't trigger it except by his own 'death' - which of course wouldn't allow him to reign over the conquered world and is thus an unacceptable way.
It also puts Kil'jaeden ordering Illidan to destroy the Lich King above a simple "rargh kill that dude who crossed me!"

Apparently some spoilers are out about the new Stormrage book. It seems Fandral dies and was slowly trying to kill Malfurion with all the Morrowgrain he was collecting. Seems like a pretty bad way to kill a character with a pretty interesting back story but that's what Knaack is good at.

There's a thread over at the MMO-Champion.com forums with a supposed "Huge Spoiler" about the new Malfurion book, Stormrage.
Thread Link Here

Edit: Beaten by a couple minutes.

Aww, I was really hoping Fandral was possessed by a Dreadlord, namely Tichondrius.

Still another month until we can read it though. The tiny bit I read at the end of the Arthas novel looked promising. Nice to have the Night Elves in focus a bit.

What is the most important thing to you? Won't you grant me the pleasure of taking it away.

This may be of interest to some people here. It's Toy Fair time now, and there are a bunch of new figures shown. The real interesting one is what looks like possibly could be a Garrosh redesign.

Pictures are here:

Toy Fair 2010 Gallery/dc-direct

on pages 1 and 2

Now the real interesting ones:

Really sad now I couldn't go this year, I could have asked if this was Garrosh. It really looks like it could be, guess he got his Dad's Gorehowl and has blackened his jaw like him.

Hope that's not true about Staghelm. Then again, it was inevitable we'd lose the tragic asshole and have Druid Jesus the Magic Exploder and Continent Killer forced down our throats.

Hell, I'm popping open a bottle of champaign just for that. I hate that guy with a passion, but at least he's got the stones to actually try and join the dark side rather than just be a stuck up douchebag, for a change.

They should of just left Varian evil and had him killed off, preferably by the players, in order ot allow his son reign.

I mean..how long has it been since that kids first appeared? 5 years?

He should be 17 by now...if he was 12 originally.

I find myself missing Varian and Garrosh's "I'm a bigger heroic asshole than you" routine already. At least they're apparently slated for "more appreciation" come Cataclysm. I like Staghelm, he was certainly a breath of fresh air back when the faction leaders were either missing, involved with content I didn't get to see back at level 60 or 70 (And hardly involved with said content at all) or pointless. At the very least, the man had a personality. It might have been the type of personality that gets you stabbed, but it was a personality nevertheless.

From what I remember, Thrall was the only faction leader before Wrath who I had any interaction with besides picking up and/or handing a couple of quests into him -- and that was the Garrosh intervention. Back at 70, that was just a case of "Yeah yeah, here's another hero. Good job Mindless Peon Warrior, have some shinies as thanks."

By contrast, dealing with Staghelm? Yeah, that was awesome -- and stuck with me for far longer. "Finally, an asshole in charge of the good guys!" I thought -- then I remembered about Tyrande.

The constant Asshole > Evil method of character "progression" just bugs me.

Doesn't stop me from hating his guts after having to deal with him with 5 alts, I guess.
It's an interesting breather, but if he doesn't evolve with the times, it just gets annoying.

Sidenote, further on in that thread someone claims they might just have been getting our hopes up about Staghelm's death. Since the book isn't available yet, I'll hold off any major judgement, but I do have to say that 'Morrowgrain to curse Malfurion' doesn't exactly stand out as a brilliant plotline.

Ignorance can be solved with a book. Stupidity requires a shotgun and a shovel.

We always knew that Staghelm's interest in the Morrowgrain was a little questionable; Quintis was telling us it had similar qualities to reagents for primitive curses. The idea that Staghelm's been nomming up the Morrowgrain so that he can curse Malfurion, though -- that seems a little anti-climactic, given how long we've waited on a resolution to the morrowgrain question.

It'll probably make sense in the book, but from what we know so far, Staghelm killing the Super Tree Christ just doesn't sound like a method that makes sense. How does killing Malfurion allow Staghelm to wrest control of Darnassus from Tyrande? He's already in de facto control of the Cenarion Circle while Furion sleeps in the dream... I guess the only reason that makes sense is he wants to kill Malfurion in a manner that can't quite be connected to him and can wholly be blamed on the Dream, so that Furion cannot wake up and become a threat to Staghelm's authority.

It sounds like what Knaak would do.

It doesn't, but I know if I was trying to gain control I'd do something similar. First, take over CC which he has effectively done, then kill off any opposition (Malfurion). After that you can move on to your next opponent, Tyrande. Basically moving down a hit-list.

It's slow, methodical, not easily traced or determined and fits relatively well with what we know.

Indeed, if you're number 3 or more in an organization, if you kill the #1, the #2 takes command. You then kill them - it's rather curious that two heads of an organization die in short order. Whereas it's considerably less obvious if the intervening members die pushing you up to #2, then the #1 bites it. Especially if you can arrange that last "hit" to lay blame elsewhere - make them a martyr and you can assume leadership as part of a crusade of justice.

Just think how much better if, say, he could curse Malfurion into madness and direct him into direct confrontation with Tyrande (lovers can fight more viciously than born enemies).

For once a Blizzard plot with high marks on plausibility and logic. Pity that story-wise Fandral would be/could be/could have been a great plot element in a post-Cataclysm world. Driving Alliance/Horde aggressions and even a potential secession movement for the Night Elves to break from the Alliance.
