It seems strange to encourage the users here to install and run a program without disclosing what it does. Since we can assume it is not a charity (despite the somewhat tired "we are gamers" line from a corporate entity) and they are somehow trying to earn money I see two ways for them to do so.

1) Directed ads based on your gaming (and browsing?) habits.
2) Collecting information about your gaming (and browsing?) habits and selling that information to others.

The fact that they aren't mentioning these things in the FAQ should make everyone wary to use it. So can someone from EJ, who seems to endorse it, explain the business model this company is running. I know we get a few pennies to be monitored. What do they get and from who and for what?

The only thing I found on their site was "Advertisers recognize and respect the community's viewership and sponsor JACT". I don't even know what they mean with that.

JACT :: About Us
There's a nice little flowchart and everything. Jact sells your online behavoir statistics to advertisers. Eamon collects data about your gaming. They're not really making an effort to hide this, they're just not very good at wording it transparently, since they're in such a rush to make sure you know it's not adware. Seems pretty clear to me. "Viewership" in this case means usage statistics and "recognize and respect" means that they consider it legit enough to "sponsor" Jact, ie give them hard cash.

Check out the Help Zone, too. (The link is in the top header.) The User Agreement and the Privacy Policy spell out exactly what we collect and what we do not to collect. The flow chart linked above is good, too, for a visual. In short, we do not sell individual data. Any gameplay data we collect (namely, the game you're playing and for how long) is aggregated with everyone else's gameplay data. It won't have your name or username attached.

But otherwise, you've got the right idea about how we support the service, with one addition. On top of serving targeted ads when you visit our website and aggregating gameplay data for the industry, we also accept product placement deals from companies who want their products to appear on the homepage or as a featured item. For example, right now we are featuring a prize drawing for a gaming rig in conjunction with iBuyPower.

On top of all that, we are in the process of becoming ESRB compliant. We think getting a third-party seal of approval is important to address these concerns... it just takes some time to go through the application process.

I'm trying to check the thread as often as I can, but since I'm out of the office this week (for the Penny Arcade Expo), if you have any immediate concerns, feel free to e-mail webmaster at jact dot com, or PM me or email me at community at jact dot com, and I'll get back to all questions as soon as I can.

3. The Jact mall has no search feature that I could find. Nevertheless, items were categorized properly and it's easy to find what you're looking for. Noticeably absent are WoW game cards.
Looking at the recently completed raffles I see that raffles #116 and #113 were for WoW Game Cards, as is the currently running #119. Unless you meant TCG type game cards.

It seems like you can buy near unlimited raffle tickets for items, ie. someone who won a webcam recently said "I put 14k into this webcam I'm glad I won" suggesting that he bought 140 tickets.

Hi guys,
I work at JACT as well. I just wanted to let you know we have tons of prize drawing going on right now. We are always looking for suggestions for new prizes! Our biggest one currently is this:

Can you answer if JACT is ever planning on selling WoW gamecards for BUX? I'm sure many here would love to be able to get them and not have to hope on a raffle.

I have also been running this myself since I saw the post and I have had no problems.

We can, and we do, as they become available. We only get a limited supply, and they tend to sell out very quickly.

Do you know if there's a plan at some point in future to include non-US in this?
If so, will you take in consideration some countries that are not usually eligible in f.e. Blizzard contests?
I'm in Romania, just so you know why I'm asking.

Start here to find more info on our International Gamer Policy. (The short of the long is that we currently only support US residents.) We hope to expand once we have a solid base in the US, at which point we'd post any info in the above-linked forum.

edit:// To clarify, the main obstacle for supporting international membership is the cost of shipping (JACT currently absorbs the cost of shipping for Mall prizes for our US members). We may consider implementing a pay-for-shipping option as an intermediate step towards international expansion; however, we still have to investigate and make sure we comply with some EU-specific regulations for international business. Thanks for the interest and keep checking back often!

Wanted to let you guys know that we posted a prize drawing for WotLK!! Tickets to win are 100BUX (less than 2 hrs of gameplay) each, and we'll preorder a copy for the winner this Friday.

Also the JACT President did an interview over at TenTonHammer, if you want someone's view besides mine on what JACT's all about. =D

This program looks really nice. However I did a little research about it. I found about a million people that use it, but a blue post in the Warcraft forums that seriously advises against it. I immediately uninstalled it only because I'm not too keen on losing my account. Here's a read for all of you if you are interested.

Blizzard obviously can't give the Jact program the stamp of approval, because if something were to go wrong they'd be on the hook. There's nothing in that post that says it is against the rules (which it obviously isn't), it's just the standard "it's not our fault if you do something stupid" response that Blizzard has to give. It's the exact same response they give to addons from Wowhead or even downloading the client from Filefront. Nothing worth freaking out about.

Empathy does not imply approval.

Hello all. Granted, one of these is hardly required to run wow, but if you're looking to upgrade your graphics card, JACT is giving one away in conjunction with AMD. Post here to win a PowerColor ATI Radeon HD 4850 (no JACT BUX necessary)

Hi Again. We're looking for feedback on our first JACT commercial. If you have a minute (and 50 seconds), take a look and post your comments (good and bad) on the video or here. Thank you thank you.

Has anyone successfully ordered from this site? I decided to cash out some of my credits about 8 weeks ago and the order is still showing up as queued. Response from their support has been ... delayed.

I wouldn't bother with this right now. I've been a JACT user for quite some time and ordered items from their mall with earned currency only to have nothing filled. Apparently they are having (and have been for 5+ months) issues of some sort and all order shipments are basically at a standstill.

Pretty shitty, I ordered a video card over three months ago =/

Yeah that's annoying. I checked site and realized they had a lot less appealing rewards and figured it was a matter of time before it got worse or went away, so was hoping to cash out before that happened. Sounds like I missed the boat.

Might want to unsticky this if that's the case.
