Speaking Draconic: need some Scepter holder help ITT
Going to crosspost this from the SA forums for maximum speed of response; those of us on ShC kind of want to get to the bottom of this.
Right, so some folks may have noticed me talking about "speaking Draconic" in the patch day thread. There's a bit more to it than this, but I need some help to figure out what's going on.
Basically, as of patch day, every single gnome rogue on the Shadow Council server who was extant in the game world at patch time can speak Draconic. As in, the skill is there in their skill tab. 300/300. Their words are mangled normally to everyone else, they are perfectly comprehensible to each other in Draconic as though they were speaking a racial language. They are capable of reading the "Draconic for Dummies" book that is in Stormwind and Undercity, and can understand the drakes you feed in Shadowmoon. It is fully implemented, fully realized Draconic.
The current working theory is that Draconic is now meant to be a quest reward for the "Draconic for Dummies" questline you do for Narain Soothfancy as part of the quest line for the Scepter of the Shifting Sands quest line. Mag, one of the gnome rogues on our server, has been working at it for a little while now and completed the Draconic for Dummies line but hasn't finished the full quest line yet. And now all of our server's gnome rogues can speak Draconic. Note that newly rolled gnome rogues CANNOT do this - it only applies to gnome rogues who were active on the server when 3.0.2 was patched in. This is what leads some of us to think that Draconic is now a quest reward for doing the Draconic for Dummies quest and that, somehow, Mag's new quest reward was applied to every single gnome rogue on the server.
Now, where do EJ forums members come into play with this? Well, knowing that EJ and friends are some of the biggest poopsocking bastards on the Internet , I know a lot of you know - or are - Scepter holders. What I need from you motherless SOBs is to go to your Scepter holders - or at least people who have completed "Draconic for Dummies" - and check to see if they also know Draconic now. I imagine that the actual EJ crew especially can check this very quickly.
We really would like confirmation on this as soon as possible. If this is what we think it is, it could be the start of something completely awesome.
Have you started to translate the in-game sources of any draconic so we can finally know what it means ? I wondered for the longest time what "Za parn mannor" meant. That was a line the netherdrakes on Netherwing Ledge said to you if you killed their rider for the "Not so friendly skies" daily quest. Since I'm currently regrinding them again, I have noticed though that those riders do no longer dismount and consequently there's no "freed" Netherwing dragon and they don't thank you anymore.

Completely agree. This is a perfect time for you to translate all the weird demonic texts. I've always wondered what "Kirel Narak" from Kazzak meant.
Also, I just checked my pally's Armory and the Armory for my former guild's MT, neither of them can speak Draconic. Both completed the quest line for Draconic for Dummies.
Hmm, with other reports coming in, it's beginning to look like this is just some kind of straight up bug that had a very weird timing coincidence on our server.
If it's not fixed yet, make sure you translate whatever you can. This might be the community's only shot for a while to get insight on the Draconic translation patterns/what's in various books etc.
If anyone finds themselves speaking Draconic, and also happens to be on the BETA, please take a quick hike to the Wrathgate and check out what Alextrasza says.
Where are the places I should check for Draconic writings/speaking? As a gnome rogue I'd like to help. Any other places to check besides that book in stormwind and Netherwing ledge?
Keep in mind you cannot create a true translation from one language to another*. The best you can do is read/screenshot as many Draconic lines of text that you can so others can read it if they wish. I mean the Draconic lines of text viewed by people who can read Draconic, so it appears as English. You cant use to to create an all purpose transator, but people can at least see what X/Y/Z-book/quest/mob said.
I have an alt gnome rogue hadn't done anything in SMV, so I got to talk to a dragon from Kindness as well as go read the book in SW. I also had to check the book on my mage, since I didn't believe the translation when I read it.
Not terribly exciting stuff. The drake just says, "Thank you, mortal." The book is also curt, "Your quest to learn draconic is futile. And why would you ever want to learn to speak in the ancient tongue? Baffling really..."
If anyone knows any more spots to check I'd love to run out there.

When you kill a dragon's rider for The Not So Friendly Skies (The Not-So-Friendly Skies... - Quest - World of Warcraft), the dragon says something in Draconic before flying off. If you don't want to actually do the quest, you could just hover by someone who is doing it.
When patch 3.0.2 was released, the gates of Ahn'Qiraj were briefly closed due to a bug that reset the gates on each server, and gave all characters of the same Race and Class as the original opener the ability to speak Draconic. All mobs spawned during the event were respawned as well. The supplies did not need to be gathered, and if the quest chain was done previously one would need to simply turn it in and re-open the gates, giving them the mount and Scarab Lord title.
