That is not true at all. The ZG plague became widespread because of hunters dismissing their pet with the disease on it, and resummoning it in a high populated area. The disruption was much more serious because once you got infected, you were dead within seconds. Same applies to Geddons living bomb, sadly just a one time explosion, but if you could get it to the AH, you were guaranteed alot of dead people.

And absolutely none of those Hunters (or Warlocks presumably) ever did it intentionally at all, did they?

Seems pretty intentional to me. People also immediately began trying to figure out how to use the Ebola on Crack(TM) against the other faction as a biological weapon (just like they did here; I think the Alliance took the zombie plague to Crossroads within 30 minutes of discovering what the crates in Booty Bay did).

The intentional spreading of Corrupted Blood actually made a number of news sources as an example of sociopathic behavior in an infected environment, and with the resulting flight from population centers as an example of responses to diseases that cause societal failure.

Corrupted Blood - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The zombie plague is pretty clearly modeled on the Black Death. It shows up in trade routes and has come in a variety of forms of similar lethality but varying contagiousness. It also behaves like a disease; the longer incubation periods are easier to control if you know about them, but they are much easier to spread because your vector lives longer. The shorter incubation periods (and more rapid "death") are much more jarring and quickly overwhelm all infrastructure that might normally contain them, but they are far more difficult to spread from city-to-city.

This latter point has been discussed many times as to why AIDS goes worldwide but Ebola does not. If it kills its carrier, it needs to take a long time to do so. In terms of the zombie plague, it's impossible to spread it from Booty Bay to Crossroads via anything other than hearthstone with a 2-minute duration, but when it was 10 minutes, I was able to do that myself as an Alliance player. Conversely, Booty Bay and all the other major cities have become basket cases ever since it went down below 5 minutes and therefore will kill spawned guards before they despawn after fighting the zombie.

Are you saying Blizzard intended for the Hakkar plague to get out of ZG or am I misunderstanding things?

I think the point he's trying to make is that the ZG plague was never intended to be to be spread outside of ZG, even if Hunters started spreading it around intentionally after discovering that it was possible to do so.

In contrast, this Scourge plague is both intended to be spread by players as well as players willfully taking up the mantle of spreading it.

I did a little zombie testing with the Haunted Memento and found that the Scourge Haunt it summons disappears when you become a zombie. If a friend has it then you find that even as a zombie you can't interact with it. So still no sign of any undead that you can interact with while zombified.

Incidentally, it was discovered on the Isle of Quel'danas that you can zombify the murlocs on the eastern coast...

Two interesting things:
first, the murlocs have a fast enough respawn rate that it becomes a self-sustaining reaction... new murlocs spawned and were converted fast enough that they balanced out the zombies dying from starvation...

Secondly... when you convert murlocs, you get mini zombies! (they're about 1/2 the height of a normal zombie)

so you have this critical mass of mini-zombies basically infesting the entire eastern side of the isle... highly entertaining.

Location of scourge spawns

If, like me, you've been struggling to find the scourge spawn points for completing the quests, here's a map that seems fairly accurate based on what I've seen so far:

There are at least 3 more in Azshara. However, there is a simple way to find them: Follow the big purple bolts from the Necropolis.

Just saw a plagued rat run into the inn in Goldshire so looks like they are starting to hit more than the main cities.

Has anyone completed the Undead Slayer gearsets yet? According to this comment on wowhead the %damage to undead stacks. Silly question maybe, but wouldn't a combined total of 12% extra damage to undead make it a decent set for Naxxramas in WotLK?

Sure, if you like having the stats of a TBC quest reward on your shoulders and Dragonblight greens on the other 3.

People are contemplating replacing 4t6 with WotLK entry level raid gear. This is a ton worse.

I've been levelling an alt the last few days and yes i've had my levelling experience interrupted at times. However, given that expansions (and a leadup event like this) come out once every ~2 years, it's fine. A few minutes of inconvenience and frustration waiting for a quest-giver to respawn is not too bad. This isn't going to last forever - and WOTLK is only going to come out once. Let the zombies have their fun for a few short days.

The fascinating thing about this plague is how players/humans react to it, even though it is in a game. I very much would be interested to know if any Agencies that deal with disease control are watching its progress.

Honestly, the main disruption that has bothered me is the inability to accept the freaking event quests in LHC. The AH, bank, whoever else, those don't upset me, but it is pretty silly to be unable to accept the event quests because of the event. And honestly, to be a bit of a lolore nerd, if anywhere could hold back the zombies, you'd hope it would be LHC.

[e]And then I log on and there are zero zombies at LHC. Not sure what they changed, but it worked.

1 Minute incubation time on Stormrage as well. During my zombie runs, I noticed a shadowy figure in the tunnel to Cathedral District, in the tunnel coming from the Trade District. I wasn't in zombie form at the time, can't target him, or anything. I went and got infected, turned, and still could not interact... I was hoping maybe this would be one of the interactable NPCs in zombie form.

I missed the latter half of the Naxx event due to vacation (what a horrible time to go away). can anyone verify that this is a part of that invasion? It looks like one of the guys from SM graveyard that is a black apparition form that summons bluish apparitions.

That sounds like you saw the non-interactable wraiths that chase people after they get the necklace from the invasion mobs (sort of like a pet).

Okay, the plague is now running rampant in cities on EU Kul Tiras (and probably everywhere). I have a suspicion this is the last phase of the zombie infection, and we'll need some kind of saving (or just utter destruction).

From past world events, when do the events generally end?

I beleive the last act of the event will be
the razing of Org and one alliance city
, but does it happen just on the eve of WoTLK release or a good 2-3 days before it?

Blue posts said a few days ago that it will be measured in "days, not weeks," so there probably is not long left.

But should the necklace apparition be just standing around when no one is there? I guess it could be bugged, and stuck there, but there's no one around, and it's not chasing anyone. It's kind of freaky in a sense that it appears to be watching the Cathedral. Couldn't be a more perfect bug if it is...

Maybe the owner of the necklace turned into a zombie on their desparate run to the last bastion of hope and dropped it... *Evil grin*

The shade can only move slowly, so a player who takes off on their epic mount will leave it behind.

Has anyone attempted to talk to Mirkblood or any of the scourge event bosses as a ghoul yet?

Edit: Blackwood had nothing to say.
