Where the different files (except cinematics) comparing wotlk install with normal one. Checked lichking.mpq and it's the same file as in beta. Probably copying those 3 files from beta folder will give you the same result as installing wotlk and repatching.
|
Are the MD5 hashings also matching between Beta and the Leak?

I used a directory compare utility. Can't test now with md5 since I deleted the beta.
MD5 from the leak files, using totalcmd's utility (after patching to 3.03):

Some of the mpqs of the beta data folder have different sizes than the retail ones, also beta has an additional file called patch-2.mpq.
Good change is, that the retail dvd doesnt require a previous installtion.
That should make fresh installs much easier and less painfull.

Since it has all the data on the DVD, has anyone tried installing the GB copy, patching it up, and then changing files to see if it will login to US live servers? I ask because there isn't a US release out yet.

It's not as easy as just changing the server list file, you actually have to "hack" some of the files to make them recognize the client as US. Considering you have to use 3rd parties to open the wow files and change values in them, I don't think it's such a good idea(even if by all means, it's probably not detectable by Warden/Blizzard). Especially not worth it since there's still a few days until release, and I'm sure a torrent of the US client will pop by tomorrow, considering shops should have gotten or will get boxes by then.

I just finished downloading the EU wotlk retail client, installing now and will attempt to 'convert' it to work with US servers. Will edit this post with updates.
Update: CONFIRMED EU WOTLK Retail Client works on US servers.
After you install it, let it patch up to 3.0.3 then go to "World of Warcraft\Data\enGB\" and edit the realmlist.wtf file.
Change:
set realmlist eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com
set patchlist eu.version.worldofwarcraft.com
set portal eu
To:
set realmlist us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com
set patchlist eu.version.worldofwarcraft.com
set portal us

I assume the content of those files are present in the retail lichking.mpq. This is because the beta lichking.mpq is a merger of the content of the patch files. The sizes of the patch files (and lichking.mpq) depend at which point your original lichking.mpq was created. Since content was added to the beta with patches, and due to the nature of patches, the content got added to the patch mpq files. Obviously, the content in those files are no longer a "patch" and got merged in to the lichking.mpq files.
Naturally, this is only based on my observations. If anyone disagrees, please post, as this is interesting.

Shouldn't you also set the patch server to the US patch server?

shiin: no because if you do need to patch in the future, you'll need the enGB version of the .exe and not the enUS version that you will get from us.version.worldofwarcraft.com

Which results in a "no wow for you on tuesdays", because europe servers are patched on wednesday. Well unless you re-install sometime before it becomes an issue.

I'm only doing it so i can start levelling as early as possible as i'm getting the cdkey emailed to me. Saves me travel time + que time and such. I'll definitely have a legit US-Retail installation before first tuesday.

So...sorry to repeat other questions, but can anyone shed any light on whether they do think the Beta client (fully patched) will work on release day?
I've got it fully working on Live as we speak, just desperate to know whether it will work on release day, since a friend is attending a midnight opening and purchasing me a key.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Unless they patch tomorrow. Its working on live now, so without anything changing, it should work come thursday.

In which case I fully expect us to come up with a new temp solution. Where there's a will there's a way.

Since the EU retail workedon US, which I assume is create and play a char on US realms, this should mean those of us that got our wotlk DVDs early can just install it and play as normal until we can update the account and go right to northrend?

Has there been any word on whether or not you will be able to upgrade your account online at launch?
I know they have said that you won't be able to download the client, but there are definitely ways around that. I just want to know if you will be able to upgrade your account or if I will have to find another way to get a CD Key.

I was told that you can get euro patches from the us patchlist on tuesdays, but the euro servers aren't updated till wednesday so it doesn't really matter there. Anyone know if this is true?
Doesn't seem to work, qq.

An enUS torrent was posted on Mininova a few hours ago. Still only one seed so it's very slow and no one can confirm whether it's a fake or not, but that's what we got so far.

It's confirmed that the EU client works fine on US, and I downloaded that (7gigs) in a couple of hours.
Here is the link if anyone else is interested.

It's the install, however, and not the ISO's -- which means it won't work for Macs. (and I'm not sure if that makes people less happy about it than if they got the ISO's or not.)

Now I'm confused... some people earlier in the thread suggested that it didn't work on US installs, and/or that you needed to edit some files, and/or that it would be a hassle to patch. Can anyone clarify that?

You only need to edit a single line in the realmlist.wtf file for the install to work, at least right now. I'm not sure how patches will work, since they are released on different days for Europe vs. North America.

Yes that's the enUS iso; CRCs are off a friend of mine's DVD.
I had him point the Mininova torrent at the DVD and it checked to 100% and started seeding so the torrent should be legit.
