Does anyone have experience with the over-the-internet cd key providers? Is that a legit way to get a key? I was previously going to attend the opening event in San Fran but the allure of a 9PM start is almost too much to pass up.

I used the link on Worldofraids for the blizz downloader and got the files, but when I start it up, after patching, it only gives me the development server (which there are none).

I looked in the realmlist.wtf file and it's set to:

set realmlist us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com
set patchlist us.version.worldofwarcraft.com
set portal us

What am I doing wrong to see the regular servers?

I'm interested in this as well. I have heard good and bad things about offgamers.com. I think by far the most reliable thing would be to get a guildmate thats EST to buy an extra copy and give you the key but thats not an option for everybody.

I believe that's just because of the current downtime. I'm getting the same thing on my non-wotlk client.

Correct, the Blizzard servers are down and any timeframe for bringing the servers up has been removed from the login screen notice. Everyone's having the same issue.

I bought a key from an online vendor (allcdkey.com) and it works. Sorry if I'm not supposed to link websites like that or if it doesn't work out for anyone else, this is the only time I've bought anything from them.

Using the blizzard downloader, I get an error "Failed to read information from the internet". Anyone have any experience with this?

Just finished the "1.9 gig" WOTLK install. It opened the launcher, which updated itself and restarted, and then it immediately opened up the patcher to update to 3.0.2. It ran through the ~389mb patch I already had in like 8 seconds and now it's doing the "Blizzard Updater" thing. It says "writing terrain data into 'patch.mpq'..."

My WOW folder went from 9.32 gigs to 12.0 gigs, but the total files/folders remained at 5655/1272 before and after.

So two questions then.

If I am not able to go get a copy before tomorrow but I can get a cd key ( thank you nameless guildy) what do it need to download and where can i get it ?

If I have the beta client and get a cd key (again thank you nameless guildy) what do I need to do in order to get it working ?

If anyone is looking for a cd key site that is run by a very nice American husband and wife team, based out of California instead of China or whatever, this site may be for you:

They also have incredibly awesome tech support, including reaching the owner via ICQ, MSN, and phone. I called this morning just to confirm that everything was set to go, he says he has plenty of keys for everyone who might order and he will be handing them out before the US servers go live at 9:00 PST. (his time zone and mine).

Also for a small fee they will ship the box to you afterward ($4 I think) or you can opt for no box and avoid the shipping fee.

Can't help you with the first question, but to as for the second one

You'll need the latest beta build (9155 I believe) then just follow Skulli's instructions posted on the first page

Was getting a pretty weird error earlier and then realised i had forgotten to transfer the realist.wtf in the folder( yeah i'm somewhat dumb )

Just for completeness' sake - changing the files in the beta client according to Skulli and updating the account to wotlk works (EU WoW here).

I bought a CD key, and tried to upgrade my account on the webpage, but no go.

Is it possible to upgrade accounts yet? Do I have a bad key?

For US at least, you can definitely upgrade now. I bought 2 keys from an eBay auction, and upgraded both my accounts to WOLK status.

I doubt you have a bad key, the guys who run that shop are awesome.

I actually came here to ask what the url is for the upgrade page? Because I believe the one that you can get to via standard account management is for BC only (or at least it says that).

Account upgraded and listed on the account page as Wrath of the Lich King.

Still having trouble finding an installer that works for Mac. Tried the Beta Trick on Mac OS, but I'm somewhat doubtful about its prospects given the way the Death Knight button is greyed out.

There's a bug for creating the Death Knight class. It seems a work around is to first create a level 1 toon. Afterwards the Death Knight class is available
