I'm not quite sure how well received World of Warcraft related podcasts/videocasts are received, but I thought I'd share this one because it's something a little bit removed from the normal topics that you'd expect from a WoW cast.
This podcast is called "ArenaCast" and is hosted by J.P "Moog1e" McDaniel, who has been involved in the WoW esports scene for quite a while. In it's most basic form, it's a weekly gathering of some professional players and people who are actively involved in the high ranking PvP scene. Now, I know the first thought for most of you is probably "why do I care?", but just as much as PvE is a part of this game, there are tons of players who only play this game for the battlegrounds/arenas/PvP aspect.
I think one of the more interesting aspects of the show is that he regularly brings in guests that have incredible insight into high end PvP etc. If you watched any of the MLG events or even this past BlizzCon, you'll know Jared "Vhell" Coulston and Nathan "Kintt" Quinn, who are two of the regulars on the show. He also usually brings in top players (at least well known ones) such as Azael and Zyz from EG, Hafu and Glick fnatic etc. Being able to hear comments on things such as past tournaments, upcoming strats/comps etc is a little bit refreshing. Getting it candid and straight from them rather than the often far too professional and processed responses they give in interviews brings a little bit more into play than the audience is used to.
And for all you people that seem to hate people who take PvP seriously etc, there is still the option of making fun of every single player that you come across. Somehow, thanks to the magical essence of pride, ArenaCast was able to talk to Jasi and Ming (from GameRiot/World of Ming etc) on the last episode. As if you've ever needed more flak to throw at those two, JP was actually able to provide it.
Now, as in a fashion with all things here on these boards, any feedback is appreciated. I'm not involved with this podcast at all, other than the fact that JP is an acquaintance of mine. I am however, vastly interested in the "eSports" aspect of games, and just want to see the reaction of people who play this game from a completely different perspective. EJ is much more of a PvE oriented community, and I think it would be interesting to hear what you feel about this podcast, or perhaps even eSports in general. Since the overall goal of eSports is to attract an audience (woo advertising) I think that trying to get people who already play the game but in a different fashion would be a good place to start.

ArenaCast is going live! Wednesday 8 p.m. – 10 p.m. CST (so all you EST nerds can still go get in line to get WotLK) we’ll be going live bringing you all of the pro players and anyone else who wants to come and talk with us on Skype.
Being the poor college student that I am, we’ll be using a MacGyver rigged Ustream.com video… with no video, only audio. This will have to do until I figure out a better, cost-effective way to do this. Below you can find the embedded player, but it we won’t be live till 8 p.m. CST on Wednesday.
The cast this week will feature myself (JP McDaniel), Sam ‘oplaid’ Lingle, Jared ‘vhell’ Coulston, Nathan ‘Kintt’ Quinn, and Keith ‘Igoaf’ Trahan unless he is pre-occupied. We plan on calling Ming and Jasi again but that is up to them if they want to talk.
Other guests will be all the professional players you can think of. I believe Happyminti should show up too – he wanted to have a quick word with Ming. He wasn’t too happy apparently.
As for that Starcraft II beta giveaway – it’s still going on. We’ll do the ‘drawing’ live on air so if you want to register to win make sure to post on the World of Warcraft forum post.
About the WotLK CD-key giveaway: Team Pandemic has been gracious enough to go out and buy 4 Wrath of the Lich King CD-keys and donate them to the show. So how are we going to give them away? Every 30 minutes on the show we'll be giving one away. Listeners will be asked a question about past podcasts and the third (since Patch 3.0 is well... 3.0) person to PM me on irc.gamesurge.net will win. Simple as that.
From here we'll most likely ship the games out the following day. If you request beforehand that you would just like the CD-key (since you're going out to buy the game anyways) we can send it over just as easily.
So make sure to tune in this Wednesday as ArenaCast will be going live for the first time! Now you can see just how dyslexic I am without edits. See you then.
