Skadi's gauntlet takes a lot of coordination and his Whirlwind is ridiculous but Utgarde Pinnacle is alright to do after initially thinking it was hell reincarnate.
|
We handled the Whirlwind by having everyone book it back down the gauntlet about halfway, his WW would end and he would run to us, and then flip this going back the other way. The best way to avoid any bad pickups or healing aggro when he lands is to make sure your tank isn't one of the ones throwing harpoons and your healer is hanging out down the gauntlet a ways and not right on his landing point.
Most of the difficulty in UP is just proper DPS order on the trash mobs to minimize damage spikes on your tank (and those nasty dog fixates. Also, The Incredible Hulk is one of the coolest achievements in any heroic .

You can taunt him while he is casting Bladestorm and he will head towards the tank.

The exact whirlwind mechanic on Skadi appears to be that he picks one random person to follow around, you can taunt him to get him to follow your tank while the debuff sticks, but he'll go back to whoever he picked after that. Taunting does buy your melee some precious few seconds to get farther away from him which is nice.

Just beat the timed Heroic Strat event. Was pretty tight and the natural flow of the event cost a lot of time but it's certainly already doable with some nice gear and a good composition. We were all in 50-75% Naxx/Heroic gear and got there with four minutes left. Mount appears to still be 100% drop rate.

Yeah, I missed that event by around 2-3 seconds with a prot warrior/ret paladin/resto shaman/rogue/hunter group, very little heroic gear and no naxx gear.

Huh? We got Ichoron the other day, and the only thing that made him tricky was the constant knockback. The shield reduction was irrelevant; we wiped a few times, but every time it was because the healer was put out of range of the tank.

On one attempt on our first ever try there, Ichoron came out and destroyed our Shaman healer. The only thing I could put this down to was healer threat remaining the same but tank threat being drastically lower because of the 99% reduction. I could be wrong, it could've been because I was far away and she was close, but that was my observation upon seeing a 500 threat Avenger's Shield the next attempt.

I saw him die to the little guys on a run in normal too. Having not been in beta or followed dungeon information too closely, I just assumed it was an intended mechanic - kill him before the other spiders do, or you fail without wiping. Maybe a sort of timer on how long it takes you to clear the waves before him.
On another Azjol bug-related note, has anyone seen both remaining watcher groups come simultaneously after you kill the first one? I'm assuming this isn't intended - I've seen it twice, once on normal and once on heroic.

In Azjol Nerub, did anyone else get Locust swarmed on Anub'Arak? I couldn't really figure out the mechanics since it wasn't the same as Anub'rekan's swarm but he definitely casted it twice. That never happened to us on normal. Or did we just kill him too fast on normal to not see it?

From doing it in beta, it might have changed, if you pulled the left most group and waited for the others to script attack you had no problems. Anything else, or pulling beforehand resulted in multipulls, and usually a bugged boss.
Just tag the left group and let them come.

He does swarm on normal mode, but it takes him a while so if you're running it with a group of excellent dps you may not see it at all.
In yet another Hadronox bug, sometimes he'll just camp out at the bottom - all the Crypt Lord packs are dead, he's being attacked by the swarmers, he kills them all and resets back to the beginning. I had to pull him with my pet eventually because he just wouldn't come up to us.
edit: As far as mechanics of Locust Swarm - I have no clue. It doesn't hit very hard, so our healer just healed through it without issue.

I've ran nearly every heroic now, and the only thing that our group just can't seem to get past is the Brann Bronzebeard event in Halls of Stone. The group composition we threw at it for about 2 hours last night was holy priest (moi), demo lock, prot warrior (admittedly a respecced fury warrior with less than stellar tank gear), unholy DK, and shadow priest. By the end of it we had the warrior tanking the meleers, the DK tanking the casters, and the lock's VW out mopping up the remainder, but we still got either overwhelmed with mobs who wiped us, or eventually could no longer keep them off of Brann and he bit the dust. (Not to mention my mana pool just eventually giving out; but that's a gearing issue.) We would start out fighting in the staircase as a chokepoint with me healing down the steps, then would eventually have to spread out in the circular room to be able to better dodge the shadow orbs and eye lasers. We just couldn't seem to get past the second or third mob wave after the eye lasers began. Any suggestions or tricks?

I actually had a friend tell me that Anub'rak completely bugged out on them last night, and locust swarm was consistantly up the entire encounter. Has anyone else experienced this? If it's a common bug, I'm going to attempt to stay away from there until it's fixed.

We actually spent took 10 tries to get the Halls of Stone event done last night, it was the daily on my server...
Our group was feral (tank), frost dk, bm hunter, destro lock and myself, holy priest (usually shadow, respecced to run heroics that night). Trade chat pug, besides the hunter and I who are RL friends
We used a frost trap in the entrance to slow mobs down, and the feral would pick up the mobs and tank them while we were killing them... We really had no DPS order, and sometimes the DK decided he would tank a few mobs... It was pretty chaotic, we managed to beat it using innervate, shadow fiend, mana pot (twice with shadowmeld) and suicide + spirit of redemption + soulstone to keep healing (I'm wearing full 75+ blues, haven't raided on this toon/server at all) I don't think we would be able to repeat it, so I'd be interested in tricks, unless the solution is just "bring better DPS" and it'll get easier as we gear up.

Oneshot the Halls of Stone heroic event the first time we went there with a guild group (feral, moonkin, rogue, shadow priest, holy priest). I can't say it was easy though, especially towards the end as I was running out of mana and cooldowns. We also were nowhere close to completing achievement (Brann had 40% hp left). Overall this is definitely one of the harder heroic fights.

i actually find Halls of Lightning quite hard. Especially Loken at the end. One thing we noticed is that a healing totem and nature resist totem really helps controling the damage in this fight.

Did both a halls of lightning and halls of stone run tonight, gear was nothing to be proud off, but guild group:
Halls of stone
prot warrior, shadow priest, resto druid, frostfire mage and blood deathknight
Had some trouble with the brann event, getting overwhelmed by mobs in phase 3. In the end I respecced deep frost with magic adsorption and used blizzard to lock them down. Worked, but it was still a bit messy. With some more practice it would have been a perfect kill though. I have no idea how to do this event without a frost mage, unless you have some heavy dps.
final boss in there is joke, same for the maiden. The giant can do some serious damage with his shatters, but if you could kill gruul you can do him.
Halls of lightning
prot pally, shadow priest, resto shaman, frost mage and blood deathknight
First and third boss seem fine. Second boss was probably bugged since he never summoned more then two constructs, giving us a free achievement. Loken's nova attack bugged out and he never finished casting it. This made him quite easy, but I can see him being a total pain with it. In general I found the trash in this place quite nasty compared to the other heroics I have done

Done it several times & the only thing that has wiped us is a tank forgetting to move from the beam. Focus dps (casters > small melee > big dude), your tank needs to be good a picking up stuff & most tank classes should do enough threat to allow casters to aoe allmost instantly.
If people pay attention & play properly then this is really not hard.
For the achievement just make sure that your casters & healers dont stand anywhere near him - Think some of the damage from the heads does some aoe - The mobs comming are easy enough to pick up & prevent from getting to him.

Took us a few wipes aswell to make a working strategy.
Everyone stands on the tank (also casters to reduce the passive aura ticks), once he casts his explosion then run all in the same direction (we use the white stripes as indicator). If u reach the button then turn around & drag him back up.
Unless someone is really slow with moving then you'll never wipe to this boss once you made this work.

Valerian: Anub'arak definitely casts Locust Swarm, even on normal. It just doesn't hit all that so it's barely noticeable. I only saw it myself on my second encounter with him, catching a glimpse of a 3 digit nature damage tick as it scrolled past my SCT.
typobox: This happened to me on my first Azjol-Nerub run. After killing the leftmost miniboss, I threw my Shield at the middle one, only to watch in horror as the rightmost pack attacked via the scripted trigger.
As Fqubed said, the best way to deal is to just wait for them to come to you.
On that note, it's also possible to reset the whole event (for whatever reason) if you kill the last miniboss out of the Gatewatcher's aggro radius and no one comes to engage him.

I could be wrong, but I think it was the scripted trigger that caused both packs to come - it wasn't a situation of engaging one and having the other come automatically. Maybe it was my imagination.

A few thoughts about Gun'drak yesterday...
Snake boss is realy hard for non-optimal group (had a respecced fury warrior tanking). We wiped a few times and then found a way to glitch this encounter so it's always a 1-shot. Probably many of you already heard about this way. Hope Blizz fixes it soon. Yay, for the achievement... not.
2nd/3rd bosses were easy. But the final was just terrible. We asked for it bringing three clothies (sp/lock/priest), but I find it stupid that charge in 75% of the cases one shots us. We had a "lucky" try when he did it on imp, then dps warrior, then missed priest and left me on 300hp after 4th, but we wiped on 1.3% due to tank death.
He was kicking the crap out of us until we worked out a semi-successful way of avoiding charges by hugging the wall at the entrance and tank dragging him right into the tablet corner. Didn't work 100% like we wanted but he definitely gibbed clothies a lot less.

Did you try hugging him? Can't say I've noticed getting any charges in melee range, so it seems to have the regular minimum range that all charges have.

Yes, it was the 1st thing we did. But he proceeded to do some kind of a stomp that throws people away from him and then immediately a charge.
Now that I think about it, we could just find a tight place so both tank and ranged have wall @ their back, staying close to each other. Got to be fast on whirlwinds though, or even run out completely for the human phase.
Worth a try for sure!

Is there some sort of strategy for last boss of Oculus, we tried it with pretty much every combination, even at one point having 2 healers and 2 tanks, but we'd always die around the 40% mark.

Done it two times now.
First time we went for 1x healer (green), 1x tank (red), 3x dps.
It took us atleast 5 tries to learn it & the kill was kinda lucky I guess.
Using a 3 dps strategy means that rotating the timestops to keep damage taken down is key.
Second time we tried 1x healer, 2x tanks, 2x dps.
It wasnt my idea & I still dont see the need for 2 red ones though - We managed to 1shot the last boss but only because lucky people (or night elfs with shadowmeld) can die, land & get out of combat = fast remount & join the fight with full hp.
I died 3 times & managed to get back up every time - like this we still barely managed.
It feels like its tuned too hard, but perhaps I havnt played with someone who mastered the healerdragon yet
