I apologise if this is not the correct place to post this, however I have run into a little problem with inscription on my server. There is this player who will undercut any glyph I (or any other scribe for that matter) put up by one silver within five minutes of me posting the auction, and he is online pretty much all day. I tried to re-undercut him, but again my glyphs were undercut before I had even finished putting all of them up. This guy sits at the auction house all day scanning his glyphs incase he is undercut, I tried to wait for him to go to bed so I could actually sell some glyphs, but I gave up at around 5am. i'm starting to get very frustrated with this situation, as he is basically making an entire profession pretty much useless, since Darkmoon cards are pretty much a break-even game on my server and making on-demand glyphs in org is too time consuming.

I was wondering what could be done about this situation, I cannot imagine that other scribes on my server are to happy about him either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This has been delt with before in earlier pages. Generally everyone agrees there are only a few options
  1. Undercut him every time
  2. Talk to him and make a deal
  3. Leave the market for a while

There is another possibility. We (the other inscriptionists and myself) had someone do this on our server. We thought it was a bot (and still do). Reasons:
- used the western silvermoon AH. It's in the middle of nowhere and nobody is ever there.
- refused to answer any questions
- when harrassed by multiple people, did nothing
- would logout every 30 min and then auto-login again

We figured it was running AH scripts and Auto-it to relogin. This means that it cannot hold an unlimited stack of glyphs, or cancel, fetch them from mail and relist them. So we did the following:
- report for botting
- undercut any and all auctions (even if you will make a loss).
- wait for relist
- repeat till the bot runs out of glyphs in inventory

With 5+ people doing this, pretty soon the guy got the message that leaving the character on all day was just not going to be profitable. We have not seen him in months.

The greatest part about this is that the underlying mats for green rings hasn't gone up at all, resulting in great margins.

Another example of this going on right now is the Spellweave market, least on my server. Because supply is constrained (only so many tailors on a server), the price of Eternal Fire hasn't increased at all, yet the Spellweave has gone up considerably, with many people wanting to craft the Ulduar gear, now that Runed Orbs are more available.

I'm noticing the same thing. I think what you're talking about may be part of it, but... a lot of the people I know are spending almost all of their instancing time doing the heroic daily exactly once, heroic ToC exactly once, and then regular ToC over and over and over and over and over. ToC isn't exactly a trash-rich instance. Compared to other instances, the flow of breakable greens seems considerably lower. Combine with all the fancy new purplez that eat enchants, as other folks have mentioned, and the result is supply is down and demand is up at the same time. So, I think that plays into this as well.

On my server, I'm noticing that the number of gems (both raw and cut) being listed on the AH is slowly declining. The undercutting is still full speed ahead, but I'm wondering if the initial surge of gems that flooded the market is now drying up a bit. I've pretty much just been holding onto my stockpile for the time being, hoping that the prices will settle in a relatively favorable spot.

Anyway. In addition to the annoyance of a shared cooldown, the transmute procs make it the one way to create (as opposed to buy) gems outside of titanium prospecting. The Icy Prism method seems feasible only in very specific circumstances. Since Titanium yields enough rare gems to make Saronite an unfeasible source of transmute fodder, the eternals market has certainly increased, if not strictly skyrocketed, since the patch. This makes the easily accessible methods of purchasing gems a fairly solid, if not truly lucrative, method of gold earning. 10,000 honor through battlegrounds, supplemented with mark turn ins and WG/arena honor buys, is a great way to get the gem of your choice to sell based on the market of the moment. This isn't exactly a secret, if the number of sellers with only one or two gems up at a time that you find/Armory/fight in PvP gear a lot is any indication. Using badges will vary, but if you're not particular about gaining gear (whether because you already have better than buys or are using an alt you don't care about) the 10-emblem gems are often better gold-per-badge because (at least on moon-guard), there isn't anywhere near a 2:1 disparity for pricing of raw 'strong' vs raw 'weak'. The glut of disenchantables alone is reason to run drop-heavy heroics. Again, not exactly a secret.

Same thing is happening on my server too. There's around 50% drop in number of both rare and epic gems listed in last...let's say 7 days. Prices are going steadily up as a result of it. If this trend continues it may result in pretty high gem prices when new PvP season hits in 2 weeks.

I'm noticing the opposite on Stormrage. Yes, the number of gems being listed is slowly declining, but the price of most has gone down 15-20% over the last several days. There are exceptions, but most cut epic gems are becoming cheaper by the day.

Prices on Frostmane are pretty much stable now.

Green cuts go from 100-130 depending on the cut with some rare cuts like haste/mp5 going for 200
Orange cuts go from 170-200
Purple cuts go from 170-200
Red cuts go from 200-250
Yellow cuts go from 170-200
Blue cuts go for around 200 (solid majestic zircon mainly)

Prices will vary from server to server ofcourse but I think the above will be true for most highend raiding servers.

The prices settled at this pretty much 2 days after patch hit and since this weekend people have been buying lots and lots of cuts. First few days I sold maybe 4 or 5 epic gems a day, since this weekend I have been selling around 20+ epic gem cuts a day. This makes me think that people accepted the prices as they are now.

Purple and orange gems are the best gems to buy from emblems if you want to use them to sell. Purple might be your best bet to transmute with alchemy since it has the cheapest mats and thus the biggest profit margins. (Mats are 13g total so around 150g profit at least)

On Frostmane it seems these cuts are rare:

10 haste/20 AP
10 haste/5mp5
20 hit
10 hit/15 sta
10 arpen/15 sta
10 parry/15sta

Pretty much all pvp cuts except 20 res and 10 res/15sta.

Anyone else wanna share their "rare" recipes?

I can agree with the price stability to an extent, and the demand was very high during the past weekend: so much as that it felt slightly unreal. Might be just market shares changing, though. The prices on Defias are a little higher, but this may have to do with supply being more limited: there's not many people regularily listing full cut catalogues, and when I do, I generally always bump a gem that's out of market temporarily into 300s. Royals, Seer's, Accurates have been consistently selling at 300s, while solids and endurings as low as 140s, with the vast majority of the cuts being roughly 200 a gem. The color doesn't seem to play a significant role: moreso the availability of the cut. Anything between 100 and 300 seems acceptable to people. A lot of the time, I'm charging people 50 a cut if I spam trade a bit. Incidentally, as mentioned with badge haul-ins, it's not too difficult to obtain about 100 per raw gem bulks from people liquidating their reserves. The supply would seem to have dimunished over the weekend too.

I was selling Glinting and Deadly Ametrines (Agi/Hit and Agi/Crit respectively) for over 350g on Stormrage for several days, though the price has plummeted after several very hefty undercuts in the last day or two.

My money cuts right now are:
Smooth King's Amber (Crit)
Regal Dreadstone (Dodge/Stam)
Dazzling Eye of Zul (Int/MP5)
Inscribed Ametrine (Str/Crit)

Pretty much all of the other cuts I have checked are on the decline, price-wise, on Stormrage.

I'm surprised to see that many of the cuts you guys are doing on your servers are generally non-caster related. My cut gems are typically selling for 175-250 gold a piece, within an hour or two of listing them.

Sp, Sp/Int, Sp/Crit are the consistently desired gem cuts. Even +20 spirit is making a huge profit, 250g+, but seems to take longer to sell. +20 hit suddenly became the "it" gem over the weekend on Thrall, which completely took me off guard, but made me a nice chunk of gold.

Luckily, gem prices have stabilized on my server, and a profit can easily be made by buying the raw gems, cutting and re-selling for a 50-75g profit.

Titanium ore is still absurdly over priced. Are other servers still seeing prices around 400g/stack?

I've been checking every day and it seems to be remaining stable at around 330-360g per stack on Stormrage. Definitely too high to be profitable.

I think you got the wrong idea from my post. Most cuts sell very well, like the cuts you just posted. Those however are also the cuts alot of people have. The small list I posted are the cuts that only 1-3 people on my server have. These cuts have about a 50-100g extra profit on them thats why I listed them and thats why I asked if any of you have simular rare cuts that do well on your server. Cuts I didn't think about yet.

It could very well be that 400g/stack for titanium IS profitable, when you add in selling the dust. Soon after patch, there was a moderate amount of ore available at 300g/stack (the price is now 350+ on my server). I decided to buy it and list the dust at 45g each, which is pretty near a break even price on a stack (45x3+epic gem+rare gem+some greens ~= 300g). All the dust (about 10-15 can't recall exactly) sold within one 48 hour period. I haven't retried this strategy with the new ore, as I'm pretty sure I'd have to sell 70-80g dust to break even (100g to make a profit), but it is possible there are buyers out there willing to pay 4000g for a recipe.

The situation we're in now is an interesting look at a recurring debate we have on this thread; whether discussing exclusive markets instantly kills their exclusivity (and by extension, whether they should be discussed at all). Titanium and damaged necklaces are both very expensive, and all JC'ers shouldn't be keeping any tokens in reserve (unless they are extremely late movers). Time is now the biggest barrier to entry in the JC marketplace, as it takes 4 days to buy a recipe. Thus, any profitable market discussed should have at least 1-4 days of exclusivity before people are able to act on the advice here.

For my contribution, Sparkling definitely sells at a higher price (but more slowly) than Solid Zircons. +10 hit/+15 Stam is a hidden gem in green. And surprisingly, +40 attack power is doing well in red.

Ah, now I understand you. The amount of jewelcrafters on my server seems so extremely high, that I believe almost every single cut is readily available. I bought the recipes that I wanted for myself first, and used them to my fullest advantage. But now when I see someone ask in trade chat for a specfic one "with a 50g! tip!" I just purchase that recipe and make some easy gold.

This goes against basic economics. Let me show you what someone with a basic sense of economy sees when they read your statement:
"I just spend 4xDragonsEyeCost (usually around 100g) to earn 50g. If I get really lucky, I find at least 7 other people willing to sell this price and might break even, disregarding all the time involved in the cutting"

Of course, you could make additional gold with that recipe by cutting and selling on AH, but it still boils down to the fact that you're spending 400g to earn 50. You need to earn at least another 350 with that recipe to break even.

One of the tanks in my guild asked me if I could buy the Parry/Sta recipe for her and to my surprise it sells really wel. Seems alot of tanks are shifting to socketing parry after the changes to dodge and parry. (bringing them in line budgetwise I think).

I think I'm gonna wait with buying a recipe this week (I got about 36 cuts right now). At the moment there is way to much demand for the epic gems. There are about 6 uncut ones of each colour I can buy a day and they usually sell within 24 hours. The demand is way, way bigger then supply at the moment.

See, this just goes against what I'm seeing. On Stormrage there is very high supply, and FIERCE undercutting going on. Rarely do you ever list something without it being undercut 3-4 times. I'm actually having trouble selling many gems because the undercutting is just that bad.

That may be true, but it doesn't seem that dragon's eye are that consistant of a seller for me to be using my tokens for them.
Those 4 tokens, and all the rest, are just sitting in my currency tab doing nothing. I can either blow them all on dragon's eye and hope to sell them all, or buy recipes of cuts that people are asking about. I prefer buy to buy it as I see the demand, and make easy gold right away for doing nothing. It's a strategy that has worked out fairly nicely for me. The choice of desired cut also varies with the demand of the people who play at the same time of day as I do, morning, so that can have an effect on things as well.

And like you said, after acquiring that cut, the heaps of gems I still have are very easily converted into cut gems and turned on the AH for profit. By all means though, I am not a pro auction house-r!

Stormrage must be a weird server, since nothing you guys are saying seems to be relevant on my server. Dragon's Eyes have been by far my best seller since the patch. I've probably sold 40-50 of them since 3.2 launched, all at around 110-125g.
