I think it takes a little bit more than just a hit. I think there's some threshold of aggro that has to be crossed, higher than the current tank's aggro, in order to make the mob turn to you. If A has 1000 aggro, and B comes along and builds 1005 aggro, I'm pretty sure the mob will stay on A. But once B gets up to 1050 or 1100 or something like that (fake #s) it'll turn to B and stick.

so basically it really doesnt create any aggro but puts a stop gap in there that fills teh aggro difference between the raiders? The question I have with this is why have a second warrior creating aggro at all and not just have them taunt at the transition? I dunno this complicates my theories on taunt more :(.
You don't need OT warriors building aggro on tauntable mobs generally.

if the second warrior has pretty close aggro, and the taunt is resisted, he may have a decent chance of still stealing aggro. at least, thats what would make sense to me.

true but most people still work around the thought. I dunno I always assumed it was a temporary aggro creation tool but this changes that if it is permanent.

Yeah there are some unknowns which can make it confusing.

I know there was a thread where someone tested feral faerie fire and confirmed that it generated about the same amount of threat as a swing, and yet whenever he used growl followed by faerie fire, the mob would always return to the first attacker, but if he used growl and a single hit it would stick to him.

On our last Firemaw attempt I decided to test something. I put myself as the offtank and after I body aggroed Firemaw I did NOTHING except taunt on the wing buffets. Halfway into the fight, low and behold one of my taunts made Firemaw stick to me after the taunt wore off. Now this was with me doing nothing at all except stand there and absorb all the wing buffets.

I think this is a bug as I always understood the effects of taunt to be temporary.

I conducted another test on a random mob in felwood. My warlock friend shadow bolted a mob and then I taunted it off him. After the taunt wore off the mob returned to the warlock (the lock was doing nothing else). Now so far everything seems normal... However, I conducted the exact same test but this time I body aggroed the mob before the lock shadow bolted it. Taunt wore off and the mob did not return to the warlock until he did something else to generate aggro.

Initial aggro + taunt puts you on the top of the aggro list for an indefinate period of time.

this is extremly usefull since this is exactly the kindof behaviour I'm talking about and we use our offtanks to pull firemaw. will post again on monday when I've tried it with the mt pulling firemaw.
