Hi Jerks,

as you probably know, paladins got a new talent called vindication with 1.9. Having 2 melee palas in a raid group, you can easily keep the debuff of vindication on the mobs the whole time. This talent reduces Str/Agi from Mobs by 15%. When debuffed, i usually see about 7-10% less incoming (melee) dmg on our tanks. Does anyone of you know the forumula how str/agi affects mobs?

If i am right, this talent is amazing. When fighting Broodlord, it is equal to buff a tank with a 20% kings-blessing. As you know, the improved version of lay on hands was nerfed on the PTR (+50% armor for 5 minutes). Going from 10k armor to 15k results in a damage reduction of roughly 9%. Imho, vindication is even better than the original ptr-loh.

cheers,
odb

I had read reports that Vindication didn't affect mob melee damage, so I avoided taking what I thought was a melee debuff worthless for PvE. You're saying it does affect mob melee damage? Hmm, time to respec...

It does currently effect mob melee damage, but it's most likely unintended(since things like Scorpid Sting don't work on raid bosses). If you don't mind respeccing for a temporary advantage it makes heavy melee fights like Broodlord and Chromaggus trivial(since mobs tend to have much higher benefit from their stats and multipliers - see what happens when you put CoR on Broodlord).

I am not a main tank, or even a REAL tank for that matter, but I have taken some hits from mobs in BWL that have been Vindicated; and I honestly notice marginal, if any difference in damage output.

I don't think it's really been tested conclusively

It may easily work differently on some mobs than others: let's say whoever made chromaggus gave him 1000 strength and no attack power, with his weapon having 0 dps - in other words, chromaggus' only source of melee damage is his attack power bonus from strength. Chromaggus also has no pure +crit - instead he has 200 agility, giving him a 10% crit rate on a target with 300 defense (or I guess chromaggus is level 63, so 315 defense)

Vindication, in this case, would reduce chromaggus's melee damage, dodge and crit rate by 15%

now Nefarion is made differently - the designers gave him 2000 points of pure attack power and +10% pure crit. he has 0 strength and 0 agility. Vindication does nothing at all to him

these are just examples, I have no idea what the actual stats on these bosses are - but if you can get that information (beast lore?) you can get an idea of how much vindication will help you against any given raid boss
