Discuss. There's an article about it, but I think those 3 screenshots say it all. Goodbye ZG/MC?

I'm still waiting to see the 1UP article that was being written about us back in August.

Well, the warrior set piece we see there doesn't look like tank plate to me. But yeah, I expect the rogue set pretty much will make Nightslayer obselete, especially since it's got a full set of bonuses and not just three.
Should be very interesting, all told. I sorta wish my mage had a single blue set piece.

But compare it to the epic ZG chestpiece. Why would someone want to go to revered with ZG, when they could just grind this out in 1 nite.

Well, you have to get Valor to drop and win it to upgrade, which has taken some of my guildmates upwards of 50+ runs. They're also pushing out changes to ZG to make the rep faster, so it's possible that the RvR will be balanced. The ZG chestpiece is handicapped by spending a lot of points on AC making it look unimpressive statwise because it's pure hybrid gear.

My guess is that these will be harder to get than the regular blue sets. Not sure if Blizz have said anything about how to get these, but my guess would be that they involve 5man clears of strath/scholo/lbrs and whatever else there is that can be 5 manned. Although thats not considered extremely hard, it will make people actually learn to play their class.
My best guess is that it'll take a couple of weeks to get these sets together. Two weeks for those that play every night, and then like 3-5 weeks for those that are more "casual".

But you could also get your valor BP on the first run, or already have it. This is the problem with random time based RvR. There's no risk in doing upper. No learning curve, anyone with a decent bit of intelligence can 10 man drakki with no problems.
ZG by contrast, presents a vast challenge to new players/guilds in the difficulty of the boss fights that will still be present post patch. Could you get to revered and never have killed a boss? Sure but it would take you a long time, and you still wouldn't have the purple component to get the armor piece.

3-5 weeks for a FULL SET. Let's use MC for a comparison. I've been with my current guild for coming up on 8 months now. I got my BF chest before my NS, and even if I didn't have BF, I still wouldn't have a NS chest yet, (3 in 8 months). Before the NS belt we got last week, we'd gotten 1 in 8 months, and before the recent spree on NS pants since 1.9 came out we'd seen 1 in 8 months.

Damn, i read this article already, but that particular fragment about upgrading blue pieces slipped away from me for some reason.
I wonder if this a smart move to piss off hardcore raiders that vendored or DEd blue set ages ago.

Hardcore raiders will generally either not want the new items, or just run the instances again to get the items back. Warlock 6/8 bonus is pretty awesome, though.

interesting, it still will not make MC obsolete though. I am looking forward to comparing the shaman set to my earthfury but I am sure that most would still like to do MC to get upgrades. Looking at the set bonuses the tier 1 sets are vastly superior. We shall see what happens but this should shut up the casual players for a little bit.

Well, I was innocent and doe-eyed and didn't see beyond my casual gaming/PvP world back then, so I don't remember any of that (I had stamped a big 'wank' on raiding before trying it; and the first few MC runs didn't exactly blow me away with its sheer awesomeness either). Anyway.
The 6/8 bonus is pretty strong in PvP, and that's what I was thinking about when I looked at these sets. These sets are for PvP balance, imo. This is gear for people who can't/won't do 20- or 40-man instances, can't/won't PvP Grind enough to get good gear from that avenue, but still need a somewhat balanced playing field in PvP. It's a band-aid solution at best, but one would imagine they're working on a better long-term solution. We hope.

Hopefully it revolves around telling Little Timmy to stop being an anti-social prick.

Remember, half of those sets are blue. While the epic pieces shown in the link are comparable with MC gear, the blue parts will not be as good, so the sets will most likely not replace MC sets. Overall I think it's a good addition, it gives people something to aim for, and narrows the gap between raiders and non raiders in PVE, while still giving raiders a clear advantage. The sets seem to be a nice stepping stone to full epic gear. As for the time involved in getting them, at this stage any extimates are pure speculation. It might 3-5 weeks as someone suggested, it might take months of rep farming and grinding for rare mats.

The assumption that just because a piece is blue makes it a valid RvR comparison is just wrong. With ZG blizzard proved that they could implement blues that were just as good or even better than some purples for their intended purposes. Look at the Hexxer's cover, the blue tank ring with def, etc, etc. Now look at the gain in budget you'd get from removing resists, and lowering armor values, and I'm sure you could make some amazing blue pieces, let alone the purple slots.
