Interesting bit of math. Any idea if this 1.75 modifier applies to swipe as well?
|
I believe it's also exactly 1.75 for Swipe.

I remember reading this somewhere, whether it was true or just speculation I don't remember, but some food for thought.
|
A level 63 mob has a 15% chance to Crush. This is not reduced by high Defense.
|
The arguement I read was that it is affected by defense, just not the defense that is above your defense cap.
So if a warrior specced into anticiaption, he raises his defense cap to 310, which would reduce his chance to get crushing blowed. On the skills page, defenses' information states it does reduce the chance of crushing blows, and this might be the mechanics to it?
Any insight on this?

Anticipation does not (or at least did not, from the last time I was protection specced) improve your innate defense - it adds to it, just like items. At the moment, nothing will really protect you more from crushing blows than a fresh level 60 with 300/300 defense skill and green gear.
As for reducing crushing blows, every level your *innate* defense skill goes up by 5. At level 60, your defense skill caps at 300. At 300 defense against a level 63 mob, it will have a 15% chance of landing crushing blows on you. At 299 defense against the same mob, it will have a 17% chance. 298 defense yields a 19% chance, and so on and so forth in a completely linear fashion.

I could have swore if you specced anticipation, your defense bar says like 380/310 instead of 370/300

It does, but I don't think this means anything.

I'm not about to spend 100g to verify that, but if you could raise your innate defense skill by 10, you'd affect crushing blows so much that I couldn't see a guild -not- requiring their tanks to spec it. It would be the best 5 talent points spendable in the protection tree, far and away surpassing Toughness for mitigation.
Man, almost got myself excited about the prot tree :(
