I've been playing WoW since U.S. open beta, I have 2 60 rogues on different servers and a 60 warrior. I know my stuff when it comes to raiding thanks to a painfully slow progression with my first rogue on a pve server. I have recently rerolled on a pvp server in order to play with some friends. I managed to get into a raiding guild and luckily the guild leader doesn't make a problem of me not having Vent for MC and Onyxia. However I would like to play in bwl and the upcoming AQ and I feel that will be impossible without ventrilo.
There is a macintosh client for ventrilo but every guild on my server uses an older version of vent and as such I am unable to connect. I've searched the web and even the raid forum on the wow site...to no avail. Teamspeak is no option either as 'no_one'_is_2_words,_retard wants to switch/pay for that.
Now I'm wondering if a big guild like EJ has Macintosh users and if they have a solution or workaround for the lack of verbal communication, or if you just drag them through and hope nothing silly happens.

Any help, suggestions (apart from "get a pc!") are appreciated.

Also why can't I cannibalise horde corpses?

qft

Just so you know, there is only ONE Ventrilo client available for Mac OSX.

http://www.ventrilo.com/news.php?art...-232prototype6

Flagship Industries is pleased to announce the first public release of the official Ventrilo client for Mac OSX.
You are SOL unless you get a PC.

Edit: looks like a prototype 7 is out for OSX now too.

With a bit of work you can probably get Wine to work on OSX, and with a bit more work get Vent to work on Wine.

The mac one works fine as long as the server you are on is using the one codec that the mac client supports.

why do people currently use macs? I mean I understand 10 years ago when photoshop and just about everything else that adobe made worked better on it but why now? The programs are pretty close on both nowadays.

Not having to worry about viruses or spyware on my laptop is nice.

Unix with a more intuitive UI than Linux/BSD and friends. OSX is pretty cool.

Spend a couple days with OSX and you won't ask that question anymore.

Doesnt matter if you have no software to run on the machine. I would rather deal with the clunky windows software.

Thanks for the replies, I use osX because it makes my work easier. As for the mac ventrilo client it seems to work fine but every single guild on my server uses vent 2.1.4 or earlier and is not compatible. Seems like I might have to get a pc or hope the new mac with intel stuff will do the trick. Looking into that wine thing tho'.

Yes, yes, there's NO software on the Mac. /rollseyes

Though perhaps not with a software catalog the size of Windows', there is still a respectable amount of Mac software available, including all the everyday "necessities". And a lot of the comparable software is better IMO.

But, as corny as it may sound, just the experience of using a Mac makes me not want to touch Windows with a 10 foot pole (unfortunately I can't use a pole to operate my computer at work).

well all throughout my bachelors(communications) I used a mac so I do have experience with it. The only times people have real issues with windows is when they do a bunch of crap on it or add all kinds of stupid stuff. I just listen to my friends and other than the fact that when in school they had to have one and dont want to have to rebuy the software they really have no good justification for it.

Heck Macs are fine if you dont really want to do alot on them. They have very little flexibility and typically get secondary support on the majority of software. I just think they are a niche, now if mac decides to allow more moderated third party support then they may have something on their hands. It is just too much of a limited tool. I never have issues with viruses and the bugs I have experienced typically get fixed quickly. Keep a PC non-cluttered and it works pretty well. Ofcourse my job doesnt require me to use a computer for anything too complex so I really dont need to push it.

The graphic artist/web designer is really the only one I can see really having a case for having a mac over a PC. But with the move Adobe has made to make both versions of photoshop, illustrator, premiere, and the rest pretty seamless I see less and less need for a mac. I do see steve Jobs realizing that not all PC products would hurt the mac if they allowed integration. I dunno the core system for a mac is nice but I dont use it for the OS I use it for the software on it.

Your guild needs to set up Ventrilo to use the Speex codec which, despite what some people in this thread have alleged, is better than the "normal" GSM codec in every conceivable way, both in that it is higher quality and free and open source. It's made by the guys who make Ogg Vorbis. Two guilds have switched to Speex just for me, and the only comments we got were that Vent sounded better. Some people are more open to it than others, though. I really had to twist Totem Recall's arm to get them to make the simple change, but Grief did it right off the bat.

If your guild won't do this, find one that will. It's really such a stupid thing for a guild to refuse to do.

Don't you need a computer to run Ventrillo?

I assumed it was a computer program.
