Instead of barraging you with the typical Can't beat Onyxia, Can't beat Razorgore, Can't beat <raid boss>, thought I'd change it up a bit.

Where'd your guys' character names come from?

This came about from me spotting various posts from Shamancraft, who apparently thinks he is a Druid? ;) Curious about how he picked that name...and for many of you others.

Zoid, I already know yours. :P

SC/BW for me, and I thought it'd be cool for a rogue.

My guess on Shamancraft is it refers to the initial state of the game, where everyone thought they were overpowered. I vaguely remember seeing a few shamancraft statements in there.

Before I knew That you couldn't have a Surname, I was going to name my Troll priest Sanka Sobchek, since I thought it sounded Jamaican.

I ended up with just Sobchek and thought it was cool. The reference is from The Big Lebowski. John Goodman's character was Walter Sobchak and I misspelled it to look cooler.

LurchDawg is because I'm a big lurch (6'4" 280 when I made the name, slimmed down to 230 by now) and it's a nick name of one of the hosts from a radio show I used to like and now don't listen to because of the time slot.

Yeah, Shamancraft took that name back in beta, after a couple of posters on the Blizzard boards started bitching about how overpowered shamans were. They called the game "World of Shamancraft." Why a druid? You'd have to ask him that. :)

Back in those heady days of beta, I named my very first warlock Billiam. I was sort of at a loss for a cool name, so I picked an old high school nickname we had for one of the "special" kids. Then, when retail hit, the lead of Goon Squad named his character Bill. Not wanting to cause confusion I decided to change things a bit. I wanted to stay with -illiam just because, so I went through the alphabet trying to find one that sounded cool.

And, of course, there is the whole Monty Python thing. That's what sealed the deal.

All of my characters (well, almost all of my characters), are named after mathematicians and scientists.

Kalman: Rudolf Kalman. Father of state space system theory, originator of the Kalman system predictive filter, important figure in stability theory for dynamic systems.

I also have a Lyapunov, Rayleigh, and Laplace. Fourier and Nyquist are on the list to be rolled, eventually.

I also have a bank alt named Preciousroy. Why? Because:

"[Preciousroy]: BUY MY [Assault Band]! SUCKAAAA!"

Makes me laugh.

Melador> Incidentally, these last few pages are why people hate lawyers.
Viator> I really don't want to go all Kalman here.
Bury> Just imagine what the world would be like if you used your powers for good.

Clearly law school has done wonders for me.

I got mine from my driver's license. My boyfriend suggested I use my real name for my character, likely because it's a lot nicer than any name I could come up with. For example:

My mage is Triplerach, which is a pun on my name plus Triple H, a wrestler. (I was a huge fan of wrestling when I was younger, and, for some stupid reason, still watch it sometimes.) It's something I came up with in a wrestling chat room six or seven years ago, and I didn't have any better ideas when making that character. Although it recently occurred to me that, coincidentally, Triple H is "the game", and so Triplerach is..."the mage"?

My priest is Healrachel. I don't think anymore needs to be said. But I also have some similarly poorly named low level alts that I don't really play anymore, like Rachellock (warlock) and Rachelhoof (druid).

When I was making my name in beta, Shale was taken. So I went with a different way of saying it.

I chose Toros because I'm the most unoriginal man on the planet.

My alt Horc is an Orc Hunter. That one's complicated, too.

This game sucks.

My name comes from a cruel joke of a three-day spawn level 60+ "elite" mob called Steelfleece that spawned in Konstacht Highlands, a level 10-20 zone. It would randomly one-shot low level players after spawning, and I admire that in a mob.

I also have an alt named Bloodtear, who was basically the exact same mob except in La Thiene Plateau, another level 10-20 zone. He used the same model as Steelfleece, so my Bloodtear has the exact same features as Steelfleece.

I really dug the Gravitation anime a couple of years ago, so when I registered for the Something Awful forums I took the name of the band in that anime, "Bad Luck." I'm not really that unlucky.

Shortened it to "Bad" for this game because a name like "Badluck" would look gaudy and might get changed for the shoving together of two words. And I figured I could add "Luck" if they ever put in last names. I used to go by "Zannen" in FFXI because that was kind of a Japanese way of conveying "oh, bad luck...," but that character was an elf, and the name didn't really fit with my cow.

Bad is also horribly annoying to /who. :)
