edit: If your guild is overflowing with elementium (ha), try putting a piece at a time on the AH for say, 600g starting bid, and no buyout.Â* I'm trying to finish the AQ scepter quests and I've paid up to 600 for a single piece (I have 4 so far)
600 for a single piece, huh? Interesting. We have like 100, but I'm paranoid they'll implement some important new use for it in 1.11.
Really though, try putting up a single piece or advertising in trade. If you have over 100, selling one piece for something like 800 or 1000g is an insane amount of gold at little cost to you.
He's been saying the same thing about Onyxia Scales for over a year now.
Maybe you should talk to Relwin, he is making a killing off cloaks. I hope I don't get in trouble with him for saying this.

That's because our Onyxia raids are pick-ups now, with most loot going to /random winners. If 20 people are online who want a shot at a free 18-slot, and there's time to spare, it's go time.

How far do you go to subsidize consumables for your raid? Obviously Flask of the Titans are too costly to require your tanks to provide their own. What about Flask of Supreme Power/Wizard Oil for mages/locks? Do you supply Major Mana Potions/Mana Oil for warriors/rogues? Major Mana Potions for healers? Resist potions for all? Just curious what the cutoff point is most guilds are using, as we're struggling to find that fine line ourselves.

we cover any extrordinary items but most stuff should be handled by individual raiders such as major mana pots, mageblood, brilliant mana/wizard oil, healing pots. It is up to the individual RL to decide what the raid bank can afford though. If you can afford to just fund everyones raiding that would be very cool.
We also pay for repairs on occasion.

Titan flasks are about the only things the guild will fund on a regular basis. Members will sell the mats to a guild alchemist for 50g, then the alchemist will turn around and sell the finished flask to the guild bank for 60g. Win/win.

Repairs and lesser buff items have been reimbursed in the past, but it only happens on rare occasions.

Since this thread got resurrected, I'll share a niche money-making scheme we've found.

A random rogue on our server must have IGE-ed a ton, but we sell him trips to BWL. He pays 1500g just to come and 500g more for every item he loots. He understands that he cannot buy items that others still need, but having 6 8/8 BF rogues in the guild doesn't cause much of a problem. So far he's done 3 trips (4500g) and looted 6/8 BF (3000g) and some miscellaneous stuff (Claw of the Black Drake, Taut Dragonhide Shoulders, etc). We're getting close to the 10k gold mark on him easy.

Obviously this is a niche thing, but it might be easier for some guilds to work into MC or something!

Mia cupla. I should have been more specific. The question about subsidizing consumables is specific to learning (ie, wiping continuously on) new content.

We don't use that many consumables while learning until we're feeling good about it (aside from the usually flasks on tanks and such so we don't have stupid tank-death wipes) so this isn't a huge deal. When we have a day of hardcore wiping, dropping a bot, repairing, and repeating, I'll generally have everyone CoD me to recover all repair costs at the end of the day. This is a fairly recent thing, since our guild bank used to suck horribly but is now fairly robust (aiming for 50k by Naxx).

I understood your question. Like I said, we'll reimburse but only rarely. ("Hey guys, we're going to Ouro to test something and will need about 20 people to do it. The guild will pay your repair costs.")

Personally, I was out-of-pocket over 100g while learning the twin emps and I don't even want to think how much went into C'thun. It's just a part of raiding that we all accept.

Me "I wish black diamond prices weren't so crazy.."
Him "Why? Have a ton you want to sell for more then 20s?"
Me "What no, have some I want to buy for less then 60g"
Him "Serious..? I just deleted a stack of them to make inventory space"
He probably got confused between those and Pristine Black Diamonds. I can't see regular BDs going for 20s on ANY server.
Nah, he was talking normal Black Diamonds, granted it was a few weeks ago, and I'm not sure whether that server has the subtlety enchant yet or not.
Being a libram whore, I think this is a great injustice. I farm brd solo for those things... for hours. They sell for 40g on my server... so I hope he is rich or he just blew a lot of gold.

427g 35s was my expensehistory from when we entered the zone to when we had the zone clear. Thank god for arbitrage, though I seem to be sucking at it these days.

With what materials? This is how I made the money for my lvl40 mount, over a year ago. But I'm out of touch with it now; I haven't had to bother with income from anything besides Alchemy for many months.

I buy greens and disenchant and sell the reagents. I find I make 200-300g a week by doing that. Havent gone farming other than for whippers and NDB in quite awhile unless I cant find something I need on the AH.

I make money by running a betting system on who's the first to die on Broodlord. If noone dies, I keep the cash.

Broodlord is like 20-30g for me, alone.

i actually used to constantly take bets on drops from certain gambling fiends in my guild. i'd pretty much take any action from someone willing to bet that an item would drop, since in every case i was more or less the house. i averaged probably 50-100g a week. :-P

ahhhh pt chicago. :)

wotc's stance shift on poker over the years was pretty funny. for a while they ignored it, then they persecuted it to the point that i wasn't allowed to so much as mention that a competitor was a poker player when i was doing top 8 commentary, even if that's what the person did for a living. then the williams WSOP turned their entire perspective around - i wonder why?

and wtf, wodin is an ex-(or current?) mtg'r too?

QFT. Black Diamonds go for 30-45g on my server where the Pristine ones are vendor trash. "PDB dropped, who wants it?" "I don't care, I'd rather take the grey that dropped since it vendors for more, thanks."
Sold a pristine for 250g back in the day... now they go for well under 10g, kind of sad.

That's just amazing. We offer them for 175g a piece average and for the "unwanted" BoE's it's quite hard to sell them.
I guess that's the downside of living on a server where 7 guilds "farm" C'Thun and 20 guilds "farm" Nefarian.

Oh, and Black Lotuses sell for about 30g a pop, and dont even ask me for how much flasks sell on our server.
