I've never gotten hit by a mage for that much thrill, are you talking about stacking AP with other large damage buffs?

Heh. Someone needs to go duel Ishaxa or one of the other AP/Fire mages. His last duel with me(where he bothered to use timers) went something like :ssj: 2400 Pyro(noncrit), 2200 FB, /tap.

AP/Shatter mages are just as disgusting but in a different way. Nova -> CS -> AP/trinket/FB macro -> CoC ends up giving you a frostbolt that has 60ish% chance of critting for 3k + a CoC with 50% chance of critting for 1200ish.

i've also certainly reflected spells for far more than 5000. :-P <3 trinkets usable in forms.

When I was still AP/Fire I hit a warrior with a fireball for 4327 (crit).

I just cant wait to see the changes, personally.

Although, like Blizzard always does, I wont see them till I get home.

Nah, you can get that with a single trinket at most if your gear supports it.

You can do even more if you're rolling with a BG buff and decked out with consumable buffs.

Is no one ever going to learn that the WoW juggernaut cannot be stopped? wowvault has been getting utterly plastered for the last hour, as have the forums. Just get it up so your servers quit getting buried under refresh traffic.

My mage is 21/30 arcane/fire and I've had pyro crits for 2500+ wearing Arcanist and a ZHC. So, yeah, an AP mage in Netherwind is more than capable of 5k.

Our AP guild leader maxed out his consumables and got the WSG beserker buff and frostbolted someone for about 8k iirc. Obviously this is idealized, but you get the picture.

I fully understand that those numbers are reachable, I was just wondering if thrillhouse was referring to any special circumstance, i.e. BG buff or consumable buff that would push the damage higher than normal.

The way he phrased

"Any ability that lets you do 5000+ damage with a single spell, will always be massively stupid and unbalancing. "

Led me to believe that he might be referring only to that skill and no other outside buffs to reach that damage. I felt that without outside buffs that number seemed a tad high.

Im dissapointed.

Nothing major, some tweaks and that is all. And LOL at this talent

Arcane Resilience
Increases your armor by an amount equal to 50% of your Intellect.

Fun is for casuals

Yay new food!

Arcane Subtlety
Reduces your target's resistance to all your spells by 4/7/10, and all of your spell criticals cause 17/34/50% less threat.
Note: Functionality has been significantly altered.

That is pretty damn nice for a tier 1 talent!

Edit- And the new Imp Blizzard makes it almost as fun as the old, old one with the crazy ass 8s snare.

Highlights for me

Arcane Resilience (Tier 3)
Increases your armor by an amount equal to 50% of your Intellect.
Note: Evocation, previously in this location and now a trainer spell, has been traded for one that also gives mages an armor boost.
Leaving rogues the lowest-armor class in the game. Bwahaha.

Master of Elements
Your Fire and Frost spell criticals will refund 10/20/30% of their base mana cost.
Note: This is a new ability and, interestingly, affects more than one talent tree.
Wow, that's a huge sustainability increase for firemages.

Frostbite at Tier 2 and for fewer talent points is pretty nuts for pvp.

I'm unimpressed with the new version of Winter's Chill but I could see spamming R1s to get it up fast.

Winter's Chill
Gived your Frost damage spells a 20/40/60/80/100% chance to apply the Winter's Chill effect, which increases the chance a Frost spell will critically hit the target by 1% for 15 seconds Stacks up to 5 times.
Hmm. I see no other threat reduction talents or mention of normalizing +dmg on Arcane Missiles, so it looks like a significant nerf in threatcapped encounters. I'm sorry, mages. :(

Fucking awesome. gg Alliance? Christ this is stupid.

Shatter
Requires 3 points in Frostbite
Increases the critical strike chance of all your spells against frozen targets by 10%.
hahahaha

edit: hahahahhhahahahahahahahaaahahahahahahhahahaahahahahaha

Unless I'm awful at reading, does the preview imply shatter is only 1-point and therefore only 10% now?

If so, frost was just destroyed.

Nope, that's what the review implies.

Not sure how much of a difference it'll really make while raiding, though; other than Rag, I certainly don't see too many raid targets being frozen.

(edit: it is, of course, a huge PvP nerf to frost builds)

They completely fucking missed the point. Now we have no innate threat reduction at all! What the fuck?

The entire point of speccing into Arcane Subtlety was to get the 40% innate threat reduction on AM/AE for those fights where aggro was extremely sensitive. Now we have none. Urrrrrrgh

I'm very happy about the change to Improved Scorch, as well as the new talent "Master of Elements", as someone whose 38 mage is on track for a 28/23/0 spec.

The change to Combustion is also a welcome change, but if it has a 'duration', it's kinda irritating. This also gives us a precedent for the Rogue review, and a potential change to Cold Blood.

Eh, nothing really game-changing, and perhaps a bit underwhelming, but still very interesting.

Well, Improved Blizzard got a huge buff and is pretty much everything you could ever want in an AE spell now. But other than that, yeah, frost got whacked pretty hard.

Well, to be fair, it was nerfed and now buffed. :)

I remember the reason I made a Mage was for mass snares and roots. God, I had a *blast* in the TM/SS battles with Improved Blizzard's -75% snare and 8s duration. Those were good times.
