edit: it seems their forum has a set of posters with similar concerns to mine. I guess it shouldn't be too hard to build a spreadsheet.
Hi,

Alcaras here, author of the http://subcreation.net/itemlevel/ web tool.

I get:
+20 Stamina
+19 Strength
+18 Agility
+9 Defense
Epic Hands
Raw ItemScore: 16215
Act. ItemValue: 102.67
Est. ItemLevel: 77.77

which is not far off the actual ItemLevel of 76.

If you have any other concerns about the tool, it's probably easier to post them here:
http://forums.subcreation.net/viewtopic.php?t=454

If you still get the wrong answer, post details about your browser/javascript settings in that thread and I'll see if I can't replicate it.

In any case, I am posting here to say Hi to Hyz, thank him for all his hard work and to ask him a question. Thanks especially for the work on sacrificed DPS -- that will make implementing Weapon ItemLevel functionality easier for me in the future.

Now for a couple of questions:
Ranged weapon DPS scaling? How is the DPS for a bow/gun/xbow determined?

I ask in the context of trying to develop a purely mathematical determinate as to what class, according to Blizzard's own StatMods, would benefit most from a particular item. Using StatMods and knowing which stats are useful to which classes (in depth discussion here: http://forums.subcreation.net/viewtopic.php?t=1192), I've been able to get something workable and right without having to factor in weapon DPS (remember, I'm not pricing items, I'm trying to figure out which class would benefit most from them).

This works until I get to ranged weapons, which don't have enough stats to distinguish them as friendly to hunters. Perhaps the answer lies in including DPS then for ranged weapons? I am as yet not sure...

My question, then, is this:
Does ranged weapon DPS contribute to the ItemLevel, like any other stat, or is it like normal weapon DPS, in that it is derived from the ItemLevel?

If it's derived from the ItemLevel, is there a formula that you know that can spit out ranged weapon DPS given an ItemLevel?

If it contributes to the ItemLevel, what is ranged weapon DPS's StatMod?

Many thanks!

There are also items that have been tweaked or changed by blizz that have item values far above what they should (and if you look carefully for discrepancies you will be able to tell which they are). But Im not going to go into specifics as I was asked by people who use them not to get them nerfed
One example is presumably Malfurion's Blessed Bulwark, which is right on budget with its stats, but over it with the extra armour.
