I think the damage from an ignite tick is attributed to the person who got the most recent crit on the mob. I'll get just one fire crit, and then the combat log will say "Patchwerk suffers 3k damage from Wilton's ignite" due to the rolling ignites before I crit. In the combat log, the credit for ignite will switch between fire mages from one tick to the next.
And I'm not sure how ignite gets so high if it can only stack to 5, but I've gotten up to 3300 before on an ignite. I'll have to watch more closely in the future.

All our mages are some variant of arcane and ice, the first 2 rogues are combat daggers, the rest are combat swords. I'm wondering how much of a difference it would have made if the rogues had battleshout :p

Seriously, why are your rogues not getting battle shout. Warriors suck, or you didn't setup groups that way? 2 rogues, 1 warrior, hunter with TSA and a shaman is how we do optimum melee groups. It'll fluctuate some, of course, but we only have 1-2 dps warriors that can beat the rogues, so it works out. We normally have 6ish rogues, and 2-3 hunters speced for TSA.
oh.. just noticed your the top rogue in that shot. :D

This is from our painful 3% wipe. We will go back kill it tomorrow (yes my soul aches).
We did pretty bad overall, the top10 carried all the load almost.. Discovered quite some slackers now and I'm hoping to discover even more tomorrow.
Also, our best hunter wasn't present. Will be interesting to see where he places tomorrow.

|
Ignite is a debuff that counts down from 4 seconds and does damage every 2 seconds. Resetting the timer on it means you get another 4 seconds of Ignite damage instead of it just fading away.
Definitely not a bad thing.

C'thun has downtime. This is straight DD. I usually don't even have to evoc on the c'thun fight, but I am pulling everything out of my ass to keep mana on Patchwerk.

Ah yeah true Gauss.
Yeah, Leviandan, we will probably start innervating mages on Patchwerk tomorrow. One could say we were a few innervates from beating it.
I can scorch forever if I want to, but I rather use fireball as often as I can in this fight. Our healers didnt need innervate anyway.

Healers don't need innervate on Patchwerk? I can't really comment on that, since we haven't been trying Patchwerk yet - but it certainly looks like a fight which is really tough on healer mana
C'thun isn't really tough on healers, so mages getting Innervates there is good. But oh well, if we get a raid going tomorrow I guess I'll see what Patchwerk is like for a healer!

Problem is that hunters would get Windfury with that group instead of GoA. Giving melee TSA isn't optimal if it means giving up GoA on hunters :/

just got our first patchwerk kill - don't have a SS of a synched DM because i forgot to reset at the start of the fight, but from the spammed meter i saw it was something like:
Death's Sting Rogue (Seal Fate)
Combat Daggers Perdition Rogue
Servo Arm Human Rogue
Frost Mage
Frost Mage
Fire Mage
Hunter
Hunter
Rogue
Mage
we don't have any fury warriors, and i'm sure i could've done better with major manas (i was the hunter at 7th) instead of superiors/combats, since it was our first attempt of the night and i thought we were focusing more on getting our healing strategy down than actually killing him - but hey, it worked!

i'm curious why you think that, especially as alliance. with appropriate potion use/jow, you can avoid going OOM pretty much the entire fight, which is really what keeps hunters from competing in damage.

Human, R14 Fury Warrior is 1st. The rogue in 13th was DCed for the 1st 30%.
This is pretty indicative of most of our DMs, for most fights.

I'll add my cents to this, having just done away with the big abo. My guild has blessed our hunters with a fully versed totemcaddy, so I'm getting the best horde has to offer. We also had 2 wolves dug up for this fight for some howls to benefit the bunch of us. Using Mageblood and Nightfin soup, 4mp5 enchant on bracer and popping rune / manapot whenever cool was done, I was at roughly 500mana at the end of the fight, shortly after enrage. We also of course got 2 manatides during the fight.
I didn't know how well mana would last, as I didn't really bother doing the exact calculations, but I was suprised to see the blue bar last for the fight. How did I do? 4th on damage meters, bested only by 3 mages. I don't have screenshot of my dps, but I can safely say I was around 600 sustained when combined with my pet.
I wouldn't say sign the earlier statement of "hunters dont do too well on this fight." Granted, you'll for once have to use full out consumables, but I'd say it was worth it. I feel that this dps-benchmark restored some of my lost faith in hunter-dps after all.

Well when I say "too well" I mean you could probably sub in classes that would better fill the role of DPS. From the many patchwerk damagemeters that have been posted, no hunters are on top, but it is HIGHLY evident from each screenshot that the damage output is shaped by the ability of each player.

Agreed. Before the pull, as the hunter classlead I was concenting to switch hunters for "better suited" dps-classes for the fight. In retrospect, I'm glad we didn't. I'd say if you handle the mana-issues on this fight as a hunter, you can concentrate 100% on just shaving those 1/10ths off of your rotation. Our hunters have a varying degree of mastery over the timing of our shots, which is most obvious on this fight. After the celebration, I had to answer on several occasions how so identically geared hunters can have such drastic differences in damage output.
I'd say the hunter is the hardest of the dps classes to "execute" when it comes to dealing optimal damage. I mean come on, how many mages are staring at their toon when spamming off bolts? (Autoshoot finishes off earlier than any notion of it is shown anywhere, other than the shooting animation. You time your Aimed Shots based on this animation.)

hunters are certainly not the best class for this fight, and honestly i think it would be a design failure if they were. hunters have a lot to offer besides balls-to-the-wall dps on a fight with zero aggro issues :-P they are by no means a bad class for the fight, and can put out respectable damage given appropriate buffs/comsumables. reading this thread, i actually realized i competely forgot to use my pet during our patchwerk kill, too, which probably would've put me higher than the 7th i hit on our damage meters :-P

What's so good about SWStats? DM v5.0 tells me everything I'd possibly want to know, really.
|
One nice thing about SWStats is it's ability to show and sort incoming damage to the raid. We were able to quickly get raw numbers on how much certain protection potions were helping the raid on faerlina last week, for example.
Maybe DM does this and I am clueless, though!

600 DPS? I dunno. I had a wolf pet, constant GoA, mongoose potion, 2x consecrated sharpening stones(these seem to work with ranged attacks), full DS and just about the best pre-naxx gear in every slot, and was only maintaining 472 sustained DPS without ever running out of mana(using mana potions, mageblood, nightfin, dark runes, and mana tide totem to sustain myself). I don't see how it would be possible to churn out 100+ more sustained DPS than what I was doing. I know I'm probably not the best DPS hunter around, but 100 more DPS? I just don't see it. Are you sure you aren't being just a little too generous with your own DPS here? How much damage had you done at the end of the fight? I'm just trying to find answers here, because I don't think I was doing that much wrong and I don't see how I could push 125 more DPS out of myself.

4 hunters with GoA (114 AP and 1% crit?) vs giving 6 rogues and 6 warriors 100 more AP? I think you need to do math again. Now, if you don't bring 8 warriors, 6 rogues, 5 shaman and 4 hunters to your raids, that might not be the case.

Shadow bolt rank 10 costs 380 mana. Assuming the warlock also has instant corruption (ruling out md/ruin) thats another 340 mana every 20~ seconds depending on how tight you are with refreshing your DoTs. Warlocks damage is great until you have to start life tapping. If you are life tapping frequently to sustain damage per minute your damage will be much lower of course because you're using up potential sahdow bolt time regening your mana. Compared to mage efficiency i just dont think warlocks can keep up in DPM terms. Imp shadow bolt is nice, shadow weaving is also nice provided you actually have a priest with it, curse of shadows is nice but once the fight requires a fair bit of life tapping i dont expect to keep up with a more efficient class. I dont have 5/5 doomcaller though.
