From Pacifist forum:
"Oh, and one more question. Joink, I noticed in your video (the wipe) you used macros that I think put a /script SpellStopCasting() in front of your Scorch and Fireball casts. Does this result in more DPS than furiously spamming the spells?" "Watch Hockens video and you'll see me casting faster then Caustic (mage to my left) at times. I raid with a ping of 300-350. So I click the macro with .6 seconds left on the casting bar. If timed right it can increase casting speed by upto 30-40%. I think there's a mod out that does this for you but I’ve always manually done it just fine." Never thought about that before. Anyone knows of the UI he's talking about? |

The mod is called FastCast.
EDIT: This Gnome is too slow |

I never got around to posting my thoughts on the mod. Overall I think it's pretty good, but it's tremendously annoying when it interrupts the casting of a spell. |
I raid with about 300ms pings and by my estimates FastCast has increased my DPS by around the 12-15% mark.

My ping is usually around 150ms-200ms. Generally even if I mash furiously on Fireball button there's still decent lag between. I watched the video and Joink could pretty much started another fireball cast after the prior finished. |
Key mashing seems to cause fastcast to break a cast early. I have a great propensity for key mashing, therefore I think the mod is worthless for my interests. There is nothing more annoying than having to output DPS at a critical moment only to be thwarted by *regardless of how high you set the damn threshold above your ping* spells being cancelled right before they come out.

If you start messing with the cancelling speed (I have mine set to .15 right now and I'm usually at around 200 ping to my server) it will greatly reduce the number of cancelled spells you get. I wouldn't recommend going over .2 seconds unless you're at 350+ ping. I'm a button-masher and I highly recommend either this mod or doing it manually because you can feel the DPS increase. It probably cancels maybe 1 out of 150 spells for me but then you have to think about how many more spells you worked into fights because you're casting quicker.
It also makes 8/8 netherwind procs much smoother and faster. |
How does this work for people /w low frame rates and a good (sub-200) ping?

The settings I use for a raid setting are based on ping but when I'm not surrounded by 39 other people its considerably lower. So I've had to add macros to toggle it off and on when I'm not raiding, I also have to turn it off when using a clearcast script. Quote:
