Really? I thought Medivh was a ghost town. At least it was when I played on Horde side. Every guild was starving for members. Is the Alliance:Horde ratio that out of balance?
Anyway, to answer your question, I think it takes ~2 days.

i actually had a pretty good experience with it, i transferred one of my old characters (not current main though) from bloodscalp to blackrock, started the transfer process saturday morning, checked it on a whim saturday evening and suprisingly it was just waiting for confirmation even though it said the wait was going to be 4 days.
of course if i was going to transfer my main something would undoubtedly break and cause it to fail for weeks, but for that character it took less than a day.

I transferred a character on Saturday and it took all of 60 minutes from the time I completed the initial form, replied to the email, and verified.

Medivh Horde is a ghost town, which makes it that much more frustrating. We can't recruit without incestuously raping another struggling Horde guild, and the conditions are almost completely unplayable in Naxx between 7:30 - 10:30pm.
|
We've been doing that for a significant portion of time. Other guilds would gear up players and being the dominant guild on our server we'd pillage any good players they had. There has been some loyalty in some guilds, but for the most part we had a great opportunity to pick and choose our players. We referred to these guilds (mostly just one) as our farm team.
With server transfers a lot of players have been transferring off of Kargath, and now it's just getting to a point where it's hard to pick up good players.
We feel your pain though. Basically since AQ our server has been garbage, and there is no sign of improvement. I'm pretty sure it's Blizzard that wants our entire guild to pay $25/head to enjoy the game again. Shouldn't there be some sort of class action lawsuit here? It's quite obvious what they're doing...
*edit* DP, but can't edit the second one or it edits both :S

Depends on what server you are transferring to. I know a person that wanted to transfer back to sargeras from dethroc took 5 days. If you want to go to a high pop server it will take awhile.

You might try dropping the whole "blizzard hates us" routine; its not working.

I don't think "lag" fits into anybody's playstyle...
Anyway, to answer your question, it took basically 30-45 minutes for our guild to transfer over last Wednesday. Literally, 30 minutes for most, the real hold up was everybody consolidating items.

I really think they should consider some sort of bulk discount (haven't heard about any) either for guild or per-account or something. Moving an entire guild + mules + alts...really very expensive all told.

well, our guild (formerly unforgiven, now pro baddies [unforgiven was taken] ) was experiencing the same thing on magtheridon, so we decided to switch to mal'ganis (this weekend in fact), and have been doing well since, 3 days here and we were able to down thaddius, which we were previously unable to do (due in some part to magtheridon server lag).
At first alot of people were against it, mostly because they thought it would splinter the guild, but when it finally came down to it, i think at most one or two people didn't transfer, and we picked up some of the best people from other guilds on magtheridon who were sick of the lag.
oh, sorry, and to answer your initial question, my server transfer was nearly instant, though i did it at like... 11am on a monday.
PS can an OP change my name to Goofball (Maxpowers was also taken on mal'ganis), i don't feel like registering a new account / entering another email address.

just go to your profile and you should be able to change your character name(not your account name).
:edit: Just confirmed, last selection(world of warcraft) on the profile area.

true, but EQ server transfers were upwards of $75, and most of your items didn't transfer.
The pricing is better than most, so just grit your teeth and deal with it, since its distributed between all your members its really not that big of a deal.
You don't really need to transfer bank alts... just spread the shit that needs to go over between the various characters transferring. X person transfer 120 cores, 6500 gold, 45 titans... etc... Excel is your friend ;)

Exactly. You have to repay for a game because they're not owning up to their end of the suggested bargain.
What happens in 6 months when those servers go to shit then? :S

It's a shitty situation, but we felt that the lag issues would not be cleared up anytime soon, add to that the rather pathetic horde / alliance ratio on magtheridon, and things like http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...erk+unforgiven happening on an almost weekly basis, and well... we felt that the cost was justified.

My beef with the paid server transfers is that people can transfer from PVP to PVE, but not the opposite. The reason my guild rolled on PVE wasn't because we didn't want the gank fest, but because our other server (Archimond) was absolutely garbage and couldn't be played on. I believe Kargath was a new server at the time, so we just decided to up and move. People were flocking to PVP servers at the time, so we figured we would enjoy as lag free of an experience as we can.
We're now an end game raiding guild, and our primary focus is PVE, but I don't see why my $25 doesn't buy me the opportunity to grief low level players ;) Maybe opening it up would get a bunch of people off our server and it'd be fixed again! :)

We've only been here for 3-4 nights so far, so take this with a grain of salt, but the server has been absolutely lag free. In 4 nights of raiding (including a tuesday) I've yet to see a single lag spike or any casting delay. The only downside is that server queues pop up during prime time on some nights. Last night there was a 100 person, 5 min queue at 9pm CST (10pm EST), which to me isn't a big deal at all but its something you'll have to consider. BG queues seem to be pretty even for horde and alliance, sometimes we have instant queues, sometimes we have to wait 5-10 mins, but its never been worse than that.
Btw, isn't Medivh a PvE server?

For the new people, its heaven.
For those of us who were here enjoying no lag, no queue to log in or to BG, its pretty much hell. After being used to a lag free IF, lag free raid instances since our hardware upgrade (like zero lag ever, no spikes, no nothing), having a queue last night and some lag spikes in Naxx was pretty lame. Of course at that point I think 4 or 5 alliance guilds in Naxx.
But when we whined about the ~5 minute spike, the server transfer recruits we got laughed at us and told us stories of their old servers while we waited for the server to catch up. So I'm sure we'll get used to it. Woulda been better to not have to get used to it, but thems the the breaks.

I think it has to do with leveling services. leveling a character on a pve server if much easier.
