So this means that if I'm at very max healing range (40 yards) then I can avoid the impale at all. I'll try this week.

A question, does your tank kites on the very external side of green water channel ( on the edge ) or the internal
side ? Does the green water debuff Anub'rekhan as well ? We find effective to use the Hunter placed on the edge with pack already on but with the tank out of range so basically is the tank running that trigger the buff effect on him, as soon the hunter see the tank affected by pack he starts to run as well.

Impale is around 35 yards yes - But due to how you have to position, you normally can't face Anub'Rekhan towards the raid; In practice, MT healers should be getting Impaled and no one else (during crypt guards).

I don't understand not using rogues and warriors on boss; We have roughly a full minute of DPS on the boss after the add dies, and a minute of rogue DPS is pretty significant.

both our hunter and tank kite on the far edge past the slime. i personally stand just outside pack range with pack on already and run forward when anub starts locust swarming to get the tank in range.

yep our tank/hunter duo also kites on the outer edge. The green ooze does nothing to Anub or his guards. The range on impale is 45 yrds (http://www.thottbot.com/?sp=28783). All hunters and fire mages (myself included) have reported getting impaled at 41 yrds out.

This is wierd- because I'm pretty sure I've been ~40, had the ability target me and just fail to hit? I do know that it's a chaining effect- if someone's close to an impale target it can spike -well- beyond healing/damage range, chaining like cleaves. Is it possible that it's bugged so while it targets at 45 it actively impales at a much shorter distance (say, 35')? That would seem vaugely consistant with observed behavior, unless of course people have experince with a non-chaining version at max range- it really seems like the consensus is in my (fairly inexperinced) guild that he won't do this.

If I'm completely nuts and the range is in fact 45, it's still very outrangable for the MT healers by the same tried and true method ot outrange maggy's fear.

Edit:
Make sure that the MT is always between you and him, and get max healing range.

(sorry, hit submit by accident)

You'd need to tank Anub'Rekhan facing the raid, which probably isn't very nice when you get around to having to kite-

Then again, tbh it really doesn't matter. If you only have a few MT healers who can be hit by Impale, one at a time only, its no significant damage at all.

yeah the damage on the healers is less than the damage you'd see on ragnaros even so as long as they aren't getting one shotted, it's not a big deal at all. Also i think for impale you are targettable for 50000 yrds like that link says in Thott, but can only do the physical damage in 45 yrds.
