Players will notice in the latest PTR update that a change was made to the functionality of temporary item buffs (e.g. poisons, sharpening stones and shaman weapon buffs.) While we only just recently allowed the affects of these temporary item buffs to persist upon zoning and logging out, due to the extra demand it was placing on our hardware we've decided that for the time being, it was best to revert the change. We do anticipate this functionality will be available again once the anticipated hardware upgrades have been completed in preparation for the Burning Crusade's release.
That was posted by Neh (Candle CM) on the Test Forums.

I am sad :( that players will lose Rogue Poisons/Shaman Buffs/Mana Oil on zoning (such as, after a wipe).

Yeah, it sucks. Their explanation is:

The code that was allowing this to work was actually added for socketed items for the expansion. There's a lot more to it than just one extra enchantment being saved. This new storage mechanism for socketing has had a major impact on the sites that are still running on our old hardware platform, which was already close to maxed out on some of those sites. Every site in the world will be running on newer, better, hardware by the time the expansion rolls around, and we will be able to fix thisagain, as well as have socketed items for the expansion.

This is obviously not an ideal solution, but we had to weigh the problems players are having just playing at all on some of the old sites at times against leaving this as is.
Still sucks.

While it sucks, the mere fact that they removed the release timer when you are a dead in a zone makes this minor inconvience imo. What I find more interesting are the claims being made in that quote!

if this is really the issue, why aren't they doing it as part of a tuesday maint. day fix? instead of waiting for an official patch release?

as a player on one of the oldest cluster hardware (kilrogg), i have a hard time believing that this was the make/break point, nor the source of our lag that was there well before 1.11.

Preposterous!
Clearly rogue needs are more important than other peoples, thus i must insist that this is changed back to 1.11 status.

Obvously, its far more important that i save gold on poisons than remvoing this stupid "lag" thing and "spikes" (duh!).

Have you ever seen "a lag"??? Well didnt think so, its all in your brain (brainlag), so quit the moaning and gimme back poisons through zoning or make them cost energy!

Its fairly lame for people who really burn through BGs for honor farming, but honestly the removal of the release timer makes me think this won't have a huge effect on most raiding rogues.

Oh well, not that big of a problem with larger stacks of poisons. I just hope the lag stops.

It's not. Our server was lagging before the poison patch, just as it was lagging after. And still lagging after our "emergency update", just not quite as often.

Yeah, we've been having server problems for roughly six to eight months. If anything, I'm guessing there will be less of those 20 second spikes we've been experiencing lately, but that constant three second cast lag will always be there.

We had the best lag spike ever this week. ~25 seconds on Huhuran. The entire raid except like 5 people were dead when it ended. We also had a ~20 second lag spike on the Twin Emps a little later. Fortunately, the one on the Twin Emps was before we pulled. And its not like these things are out of the ordinary either.

It has gotten to the point where everyone coordinates who is pulling a boss in general chat. Each raid takes turn killing bosses so that we don't screw each other over by 4 of us pulling something at the same time. As dumb as it sounds, it actually feels like it helps.

I believe in Harvey Dent.

Here's something fun: two of our members Frapsed the end of a Twin Emperors "kill" we had a couple weeks ago, where the server fatally spiked when the Emps were at sub-1%.

Second one has some NWS language.

EDIT: Both videos are sub-1 minute, FYI. I just realised that my description of them makes them seem 15 minutes in length.
