Posted this on the WoW forums, no replies.. thought someone here may know.

just wondering how Shield Slam threat scales with gear. Anyone have any numbers for this? Is it just (relatively) weak bonus threat tacked on like Heroic Strike (Flat_Threat + Bonus_Threat, I think? Correct me if I'm wrong please) or a multiplicative bonus like Searing Pain or Maul (Damage * Threat)?

Damage + flat bonus (250).

Warriors don't have any true multiplicative aggro abilities.

I was under the impression that after the patch, the amount of + Shield block you have affected the damage Shield Slam does. Is this not the case?

Yes, which increases the damage done... obviously as you do more damage, you generate more threat. That kind of goes without saying.

@vulcan

No, you're right but that's not what I was asking.

The threat of some abilities (Maul, Searing Pain) is multiplied by the amount of their damage. I think the multiplier for Maul is 1.75 base (w/o talents, I think..), so ex:

If I maul a target for 200, the threat generated by my maul is 200 x 1.75 or 350 threat.

The warrior equivalent of Maul (Heroic Strike) works like this:

when a warrior uses HS, it's a flat amount of threat generated (I don't know the number) no matter how much damage is done. The damage done by the ability is then ADDED to the flat amount instead of multiplied like Maul or Searing Pain. (read: druid/warlock threat scales very well with gear compared to warriors who get flat threat on their abilities and then have the bonus threat added. No multiplication! This is also why some warriors prefer faster weapons for grabbing aggro since HS spam with a fast weapon works very well (see: Iblis thread))

I knew that was the case with Heroic Strike and Revenge, I just wasn't sure if they finally added a multiplicative threat generating ability for warriors with the new Shield Slam.

That's true as long as you don't consider Defensive Stance an ability.

Assuming 5/5 Defiance, DStance and +Threat glove enchant all damage dealt by a warrior gets something like a 1.47x total multiplier.

With the new modifier system in 1.12 that total will go up to something like 1.52x.

You cant really call that scaling. Sunder, revenge, heroic strike, demo shout will always cause the same amount of threat, no matter how good your gear is. The only scaling threat for a warrior is white damage, and a pretty small portion of shield slam.

Druid aggro on the other hand scales very well with gear. And they have the same "def stance" modifier ;)

If only Blizzard would give us better damage mitigation gear or re-introduce real aggro-sensitive fights it might make a difference. But right now raids wipe because tanks die many, many times more often than they die because tanks can't hold aggro.
