Resurrecting this thread because on the weekend, I did my first AQ40 raid with La Vendetta bossmods installed, and it made for a total 180 degree change in my perception of the Sartura fight.

Having a progress bar onscreen for her whirlwinds made it absolutely trivial to dash in at the right moment. The length of her whirlwind is longer than the cooldown on kidney shot, so you can stun her every time, gather a few combo points, and then get out ready for the next assault. I reckon I stunned her after every whirlwind except for maybe 1 or 2, never felt in any real danger of dying, and generally felt like an important part of the raid again, rather than the 5th wheel that I've always felt like previously against Sartura.

Can't recommend this addon highly enough to rogues.

In response to the OP:

We just assist train each of the guards down separately and then DPS Sartura herself. For the pull we assign a hunter to each add to pull each guard to a warrior in the room, and that warrior + hunter are responsible for controlling that guard until the raid is ready to kill it. Generally each guard lasts less than 15seconds with the entire raid DPSing it down, and we move from one guard to another until just Sartura is left. We have rogues jump in (La Vendetta/NECB with the Sartura timer programmed in help a lot for the duration of the WW, but a bunch of us figured out it was 15 seconds before using said mods) and stun after WW wears off, max dps, then run out.

We're horde, no pallies, but I'd imagine it'd be easier to get the initial stun off with pallies (since at times Sartura's unpredictable movements may have her take a sharp turn in her last 1-2 seconds of WWing).

The best advice is to get some mod that will show when the WW's will happen. I use enemycastbar, I hear bigwigs works but haven't made the jump just yet. This should be considered essential, it's not just gee-whiz info, and relying on raid announcements is no substitution for seeing a nice progression bar and timer sitting on your screen. Also stun/cc-watch for rogues. Everything else follows from there.

The thing that's helped me the most is having a warrior intercept stun just as the WW goes down. Otherwise it can be hard to get in range with enough time to do anything useful before the next WW if they're running away from you and sprint's down.

Rogues should do a stun rotation. It works out best if you keep close to the same order, because the first person to stun will be able to build combo points before they run out, while the last person to stun will be building those points after they run in. You can't really mix this up much without throwing things off, although AR might ease the pain. Generally sword rogues should go first since they have better combo point generation, but you'll probably know who is reliable and less likely to get themselves killed needlessly.

Rogues can cheap shot 3 times during the fight - start in stealth, vanish early, then vanish on Sartura. This will also help get the first add down, which really cleans things up. If you're winning in less than 5 minutes you don't need advice and are smart enough to save your vanish for Sartura.

For other classes, just let people generally know that rogues might be a bit higher on the heal priority than some fights - too much time in MC and BWL has probably trained healers to think that when rogues take heavy damage it's their damn fault. While they don't have to take damage on a flawless execution of this fight, they sure will when you're learning, and if you don't top them off your stun rotation will be borked, which means your raid dps will be lacking. Also remember that a WW is an agro wipe, so you can pull out mind blast, etc.

A lot of this fight is about individuals learning to watch their surroundings. Yes you can get unlucky with mobs converging on you, but it's mor than luck, there's skill to moving at the right times to ensure your safety.

When learning it a few weeks ago we'd see the same people die consistently, and another few who surivived till the end every time. That implies a method to their tactics to me. Personally, I was managing to avoid the adds and Sartura, but as a mage with range that's not hard at all. For rogues it's a bit harder I imagine, but we'd still see the same rogue or two surviving every attempt, and others dying every attempt.

Tactics wise, we use 2-3 tanks on Sartura, drag her furthest from the entrance and keep here there with some healers keeping those tanks up. Then the other 3-4 tanks control the adds, and we single target DPS them down one at a time. Only killed her three times total now I think, maybe only twice in fact, but was one shotted this week. To us it's getting through the adds that's the issue, do that with enough people (30+) staying alert, on their toes and alive as we switch DPS to Sartura and she's going down.
