Had Stone's 13th. Very good, obviously full of citrus. Good carbonation, (short) head, and lacing. The pine works towards the expected Stone finish. Perfectly hoppy and clean. I could drink a good bit of these.

For all of those coming to Anaheim for Blizzcon, there is a really cool place called Stuffed Sandwich in San Gabriel. It is about an hour from Anaheim. The guy has four warehouses filled with bottles of beer. You can just show up and see what he has or you can call in advance if you are looking for a specific vintage beer. The guy's name is Sam and he really, really loves to discuss beer.
Here is the website: Home of The Stuffed Sandwich

Update on the No-man's booze plan: Hard ciders and a variety of other beverages with respectable alcohol content ranging from hard lemonade to straight beer have me moving up the ladder. It shouldn't be long before I can start taking some bitter that used to make me gag, without even a wince yeah, I'm a sissy, so sue me. I'm working on it, and the progress (with much ghost-reading of this forum for good picks) is noticable.

Drinking this American IPA tonight. This is an excellent, buy-this-if-you-see-it ale. Great toasty feeling, lasting foam. Very drinkable, with a good hop bite and a great overall complexity.

Finally was able to track down some of Avery's Maharaja IIPA, and I must say, I'm a bit disappointed in the batch this year. Not as well balanced as the 2008 batch and the alcohol taste is a bit to overwhelming. It didn't have the strong citrusy hop taste that the one last year had either.
At least the Fall beers have really started popping up now. Started stocking up on some old favorites, already grabbed enough of Southern Tier's pumpkin to last me for the entire season. Oktoberfest beers have started showing up too, but no Weyerbacher Autumn yet, I hope they made it again this year, it was a nice hybrid of a Wheat and a Marzen.

I had the same experience, glad it wasn't just me. I bought like 5 bottles when I saw it and they were all not as good as years past. I think the absolute best I remember was 2006.

Too bad, I had a Maharaja for New Years' last year and was really impressed by it. I'll avoid it this year.
In other news, I'm going to this place during my Labor Day vacation:

Wow, guess they are really going for quantity over quality. There are definitely some good ones there (the Oak Aged Yeti stands out) but man, I don't think I've ever seen such a huge list of mediocre beer.

Had a similar deal, I grabbed two. This was much harder for me to locate this year then last year, for some reason only one place got it here in NJ. I had the second one last night to be sure (hey we were doing Firefighter, I needed some form of break after!) and yeah same exact impression.
Reminded me a lot of how Avery's Kaiser turned out last year too. They really upped the ABV on the 08 Kaiser, it was around 11%, while the previous year was at 9%, iirc. I know that Kaiser especially has variation between batches, but really noticed the heavy handedness of the alcohol taste in it last year.
I was able to grab a six pack of Anderson Valley's Hoppin Ottin today, so I am looking forward to that. Haven’t had that one for awhile now.

Ah, glad to see a place to drown our WoW sorrows on here.
As far as beer goes, I've been told to smell it, then remember that it supposedly tastes 10 times worse, but I'll take that with a grain of salt as usual for anything really.
The only three kinds of alcoholic drinks I've had were peppermint schnapps, rum, and whiskey. I've have to go back to my friend's place to see what exactly they were, but I definitely liked the schnapps the best. The rum was alright and had good flavor with a bit of bite, but the whiskey reeked of alcohol to me and didn't seem very palatable.
That said, can anyone recommend an introductory beer for someone (me) who is really a newb when it comes to any alcoholic beverage?

I will have to stick with my traditional Texas beer. Shiner Bock. Not to light, not to dark. Gotta love it.

I manage a bar, and as of late I have been selling a lot of Schlafly's Dry Hopped APA. It is incredibly flavorful, slightly on the bitter side.
Schlafly; the St. Louis beer that no one seems to care about.

I'm a St. Louis native and I've basically had all of their beers. There are very few Schlafly beers I personally care for, but (since it's getting to be that time of year again), their pumpkin ale tastes remarkably like pumpkin pie. It's possibly the best pumpkin ale I've had.

Yes, that Pumpkin Ale is amazing. Have you had any of the O'Fallon beers? It's a small brewery outside of St. Louis. The beer is average though they do have a peach wheat (Wheach), which is interesting to say the least.
