Had a Raspberry Brown from Lost Coast this past weekend. It was decent, but I much prefer the Tangerine Wheat they make.

JW Lees Harvest Ale - fermented in the port casks. I had this at Brouwers cafe awhile back. They had some iteration of this last christmas I believe.
MAN, beautiful and slightly sweet. I loved this beer.

If you are anywhere near Seattle, or visiting Seattle you should consider visiting Brouwers. 64 beers on TAP. 12 pages of bottled beer they keep. Plus some badass munchies to go along with it. The Bacon-Gruyere Croquettes are just amazing... and the place offers pomme frittes if you're into that.

Seconded. Also, it's entirely worth waiting in line to get in for ANY festival they do. Big Wood (casked beers) was a little underwhelming, but the Barleywine Festival is absolutely absurd. I have generally shown up around noon-1, and left around 8-9, having tried 20-30 new beers of varying quality. (And at 2 bucks for a 3oz taster, this is entirely sensible and doable. Ordering in batches and passing them around with your friends to figure out which one wins is good times.)

Also, I feel I should note that the 12 pages of bottled beer is the SMALL list. They've got this lovely little leather-bound book style menu they'll happily bring you that's got a good deal more on it than the paper/stapled menus they normally bring out. Try the Kwak if you can, even though they tend not to have the traditional glassware for it.

We had a bottle of Blue Moon's Grand Cru (brewed for the NYE Blue Moon) and it was quite delicious. It tasted like a Blue Moon with the flavor turned up to 10.5 with a nice kick from the ~9% ABV. It was unmistakably Blue Moon, but tasty enough that thoughts of "Coors" never passed through my head.

See you, auntie.

So I managed to store away this year's vertical epic for a few months. I have to say, the '09 vertical epic having been sitting in the cellar for about 3.5 months is much more than tasty. I actually couldn't believe how good it is. It really makes me wish I knew this collection of beers from Stone was meant as an aged set sooner than I did.

As for other beers, it appears Southern Tier really can't do wrong. Their winter "Krampus" is also really quite tasty. It's not really overbearing on the spices but is quite drinkable (for better or for worse).

Are you familiar at all with The Brickskeller? He's a link to their home page:

In terms of sheer variety you really can't beat it. They have one of, if not THE largest beer selections in the country. I was there last May and they only had about 16 beers on tap but they now have over 1000 different bottled beers. It was about a 4 block walk from the Dupont Circle stop off the Red Line if I remember correctly.

If you like Brown Ales, you should try Wynona's Big Brown Ale by Voodoo. It is one of the best Brown Ales I have had, and should be in your area as the brewery is based in Pennsylvania.

I have one of those and the 08 one aging still. Going to hold them till 2012 like it is recommended. Luckily the 2009 is still relatively easy to find in these parts, so I think I will grab one to try.

A friend of mine is now stationed in San Diego, and promised me he would try to get some of the on-site only beers they sell there for me. Really curious on how Stone's Tripel is.

Sierra Nevada's Big Foot Barelywine just came out, noticed it when I was down in Memphis, TN for New Years. Now if that area got it, NJ certainly will have it. Hope the batch this year turned out good, as it is one of the Barelywines out there I really enjoy.

Went from the Charger game this Sunday to Neighborhood, as they updated their taps.

Dogfish Head Midas Touch - Pretty much everything DFH makes is good, and this is no exception. Very sweet, almost like honey? Real boozy though.

Allagash White - Good change of pace from the Midas Touch, complimented the great food they serve at Neighborhood. Yeasty, drinkable. I could session this beer, no doubt.

Had the pleasure of trying a Polish beer on Saturday called Warka. Was incredibly smooth and had a nice nutty flavor to it. Would definitely drink again.

The Brickskeller/RFD can be pretty frustrating in terms of what they actually have in stock; the menu says a 1000 bottled beers, but you are lucky if they have one of the first three you choose.

If you want an extensive draft list in DC, go to the Churchkey on 13th St. NW. It's a little trendy right now, but the beer list is impressive.

For a primarily Belgian selection, there are several options: Granville Moore's on H street NE, Brasserie Beck downtown, or Belga Cafe in the Capitol Hill area.

The reason why you tend to end up having to order 2-3 times at Brickskeller/RFD sometimes is that they pay taxes on their current stock at that start of a new year. So, they'll simply stop ordering some of the lesser ordered stock past a certain point in the year. At least this is how it was explained to me some years ago when I had trouble ordering something they could actually serve me.

For DC area, search the dcfoodies and metrocurean blogs. We've a number of great beer people in the area (also check out DC beer week on facebook, I still seem to get e-mails about seemingly random beer dinners). Pizzaria Paradiso in Georgetown (and soon Crystal City), Belga Cafe near Eastern Market, and Rustico in Alexandria have often overlooked beer selections.

See you, auntie.

One of my usual beers is "Rock" or "A Le Coq"- local ones in Estonia. Doubt anyone knows it here, but if you do, then cool.

So talking about drinking it - got a nice happening tonight. You see usually I do not see dreams (yes I know everyone dreams while sleeping - but they do not remember them), when I sleep, but today the only thing I remember about one was something along the lines: I was drinking that A Le Coq one, then fell a sleep in a dream. A while later I wake up in my dream and what do I see - I still got that half beer left. Started drinking last part and and checked time, which showed around 9 in the morning (I never drink in the morning), and then. And then! My real life alarm starts ringing - damn that was a nice dream, I wish I had time to finish that bottle. But got to start going to work

On the topic line what I also like are Guiness and weirdly in the summer I started liking "Bile" (this was that blurry beer - not clear one...) in Ukraine. With that Bile I had a cool happening too - when I first drank it I liked it, so I took a picture with my phone. Next time I went there and asked for it, but my pronunciation was not that good (local), so I popped out my phone and showed to the guy - "yo I would like that one" For some reason, they all started to laugh about it

A couple that I particularly enjoyed this holiday season were the Mikkeller Santa's Little Helper 2009 and the Sierra Nevada / DFH Life and Limb collaboration. Both of these were absolutely amazing and highly reccommend them. Life and Limb might be difficult to find unfortunately due to its limited release The Mikkeller SLH shouldnt be too hard to find, but has to be the 2009. The 2008 wasnt nearly as tasty.
