Rogue really doesn't have much of a middle ground with their stuff. It's either great or forgettable. Not that I've had a bad beer from them though.

Tried a DJ Rocker's Bald Eagle Brown last night. It was pretty smooth and kind of sweet for a brown ale. The finish was a bit malty and really smooth. Definitely worth a try if you like brown ales.

The Dead Guy is pretty much good beer with the training wheels still attached. If you've been trying other craft beers it can come off as a little mild, but it's a very safe way to show somebody that there is more to beer than macro garbage, without scaring them away with too much hops or "scary" darkly roasted malt.

I think it makes the list because it's so many people's first experience going "wow, so *that's* why people pay more for this!"

That's funny because my thought was "I can't believe this 6pack was 12 bucks."

(Don't get me wrong, it's not bad. I just don't think it really makes anyones top 50 list)

That is a rather high price for Dead Guy.

You guys aren't drinking enough if I'm replying to myself here.

I've been having more and more of Dominion's Oak Barrel Stout. It's not spectacular, but it's incredibly solid. What the flavor lacks in complexity, it makes up for in quality.

I also picked up a 6 of Founder's Rye PA. It's good, but I wanted something with more Rye and this has 70 IBUs that somewhat take center stage.

See you, auntie.

OK, OK.

I got 4 new beers during a road trip and finally got around to trying one - Samuel Adams Imperial White. If you like beer that's sweet, flat, and has a strong alcohol taste, I suppose this is the one to get.

That one reminded me of fermented bananas. It was great 2yrs ago at EBF, but rough in the bottle.

See you, auntie.

Sam Adams Hallertau I Pilsner was the best thing they made until they started making a traditional, session IPA. Got the same Sam Adams malt profile, but with very crisp floral notes that good IPAs have. Decently bitter, great lacey head and at only 5.7abv is easy enough on the alcohol.

Tonight I tried Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier (off the GQ Top 50 list) in a 1/2 liter draft. Pretty interesting hefe, it finishes very sweet on the tongue. Had an overall impression of honey in the flavors but hard pressed to place anything else about it. Not something I'd want to drink continuously but it's definitely something to consider trying.

Finally made it back to the decent shop near me and have an assorted 6pack to go through and a bottle of Stone's Sublimely Self-Righteous that I went through on Friday. Probably one of the best beers I've had from Stone.

I actually also had that Stone beer on Friday for the first time. It was really friggin good. Hotter alcohol flavor than I expected from an ~8% beer. Not that 8% isn't high, I'm just used to it being high malt/high hop beers like a barleywine or imperial stout that tip the booze scales. SSRA was lighter bodied so the booze was front and center. It's definitely interesting getting a huge citrus nose from a dark beer (and also minimal roasted malt flavor). I'll definitely buy it again.

Speaking of fermented bananas, ever tried Wells' Banana Bread Beer?

It is most cerainly a quite odd beer with a very distinct banana taste, but surprisingly it is actually quite good. It is not that sweet, has a very nice balance and a dry finish. If you like Young's Double Chocolate Stout, then I think you would also like Wells' Banana Bread Beer.

Yeah, they're starting to carry this at BevMo now. It's good, just make sure you finish the bomber before it gets warm.

Anyways, the other night my lady and I were finishing up a pub crawl through North Park. I had a Young's Chocolate Stout, and my lady has the Framboise lambic.

Long story short, we mixed a bit of the two in a cup and whoa; it was pretty damned good. I'd call myself a weirdo but I thought: people have Black and Tans, Snakebites, etc. Why not this?

Try it.

Seconding this. I had some of this at a BBQ over the weekend and it was really surprisingly good. I was prepared to be a little overwhelmed since the label said "added banana flavors" but it really wasn't syrupy at all.
