I was overwhelmed with Kolsch on my last trip to NC. Classic styles and summer beers were going strong there. Big Boss Angry Angel, French Broad Gateway Kolsch, and Mother Earth Endless River were notable stand-outs.

See you, auntie.

Yep, too bad they just reduced the allocation to 2, from 4. Thinking about making my wife go, so I can get 4. This beer will become highly sought after.

Indeed it will especially because of the new bottle limit.

I already had this discussion with shadowane on twitter, but I waited 3.5 hours in line at Alesmith for ONE bottle of BA Speedway. BA Decadance ran out three people in front of me

I had both on tap. Decadence smelled so incredibly amazing. All bourbon and oak. Taste was of bourbon, and the sour was very very slight. So good.

BA Speedway was sort of disappointing. Smelled like regular Speedway (heavy on coffee) and tasted real hot. I couldnt get any bourbon out of it.

i has a sad

Thats true, i prefer the Tecate Light to drink with my friends or Indio if we want something stronger.

I dont know if this restaurant exists elsewhere, but we have a restaurant called Sierra Madre here in Monterrey, Mexico.

They brew their own beers.

Ya, that line was crazy. I sorta figured it would be, what with the NHC going on and all and so I got there at 6:15. Ended up getting the full allotment - but I do wish I could have convinced my roommate to come along so get another bottle of Decadence. No way I was getting him up that early though.

The special releases are definitely becoming more of a big thing. I suspect more places will move to a lottery style method. Pretty sure that's what Stone's going to do with it's upcoming barrel release.

Interesting article on the BBC website about exporting of English stout to Russia.

BBC News - The brewers taking stout back to Russia

Makes me very curious about Mad Monk and other stronger stouts as sounds like a tipple that will be right up my street. I shall report on its virtues once devoured this weekend.

Drank a batch 1 Consecration and a 2011 Parabola last night. Completely blown away by Parabola. Snatch this up if you see it, people.

I'm hoping to get a case of Parabola when it finally shows up here in Philly and, if not, at least get it on draft somewhere.

CNN has started a beer column. Berrong on Beer – Eatocracy - CNN.com Blogs

This weekend we visited the Smuttynose brewery in Portsmouth, NH. Good tour, they give samples before the tour starts, in case you're thirsty when you arrive, and more samples at the end! Picked up two of their Big Beer series to try out, the S'muttonator dopplebock and the Wheat Wine Ale. Their brewery is filled with funny stuff like:

I had the S'muttonator previously and didn't like it very much. I don't know if bottles would be better, but I found the hops in it didn't blend real well with the caramel of the back doppelbock.

I'm in Sacramento, and so far the only Kolsch I have found is the Sam Adams one, but am going to try a few more places.
