From their FaceBook today:

"We’ve bottled up 544 bottles of Ken Schmidt / Maui / Stone Kona Coffee, Macadamia, Coconut Porter Aged in Bourbon Barrels. So far we’ve sold 5,460 tickets to the drawing."

Now we have to hope everyone bought twenty. Your odds are going down unfortunately.

I opened one of my Captain Lawrence Smoke from the Oak on Saturday. This was the wine treatment. The flavors were interesting but the smoke and the wine didn't blend incredibly well. It wasn't bad just felt like the flavors went back and forth.

If you're a Guinness fan, i highly recommend trying Sheaf Stout (Australian)it has a "chewy" body, thick head and a extremely smooth almost "chocolatety" finish. I enjoy it in the fall and winter months ...Not nearly as bitter as Guinness.

I've had several Custom BrewCrafters ales which were very good so when I saw an IPA from them I picked up a 6 pack of Caged Alpha Monkey IPA with high expectations.

It poured a nice clear copper color with a one finger head, the aroma hinted at some light tropical fruit notes and citrus with a good dose of pine and caramel. However, The taste was almost overly bitter, some of the pine was there but not very much citrus, which I had anticipated from the smell, and had a dry bitter finish. Overall I would say this was a good pickup and those who love very hoppy beers would definitely enjoy it. I do hope that one of the local bars gets it on tap so I can try it fresh, but I probably won't be picking up another 6 pack soon.

Custom BrewCrafters is a small brewery located near Rochester, NY ( Custom BrewCrafters ). They have a partnership with several of the local bars here in Buffalo, NY and every now and then I see a few of their seasonal 6 packs at the grocery store. They are somewhat new, being founded in 1997 but just expanded their business so I anticipate that they will start popping up in places around the country.

Anchor Steam makes a Barleywine Style ale, not sure if it's new or I've just never seen it, and I really enjoyed it. Also liked Gorden Biersch's SommerBrau, it's kolsch style.

It's been around for quite a bit. While not my favorite in the style, it's still decent.

Best barelywines are hoppy Americans for me - Flying Mouflan, Old Ruffian, Climax, etc., although I'm also partial to Monster, Gnarleywine, John Barleycorn, et al.

See you, auntie.

Woo Hoo!

Congratulations deserving Stone fan!

You have won the opportunity to purchase one bottle of "Ken Schmidt / Maui / Stone Kona Coffee, Macadamia, Coconut Porter Aged in Bourbon Barrels" for $25 (plus tax & CRV) from The Stone Company Store in Escondido.

Additionally, you have also won the right to feel great about yourself because you helped us raise $15,000 for the Escondido Creek Conservancy and Interfaith Community Services. Cheers to that!

For some reason I've had a hard time finding many barleywine styles here, so when I do see one I grab it and try it.

I love barleywines and there are a ton here so it works out really well.

Tyrsis, are you part of the Bruery Reserve Society by chance? You do live near there at least right?
