Luckily they don't make that one anymore so I'll never know!

Any bars in your area doing a Zwanze Day? I'd have to imagine Monk's Cafe will.

Yeah Monks is doing it. I was planning on going to it, but unfortunately there is a better event that day.

Blue Dog "Wealth of Riches" Celebration - September 17, 2011 - BeerAdvocate

I know I should care more about Zwanze, I just figure it's going to be a horribly run event and don't want to deal with it.

edit: Did you see The Bruery is doing their Reserve Society again next year? $300 but it's like 8 "free" beers so it ends up like $33 a beer or something just all at once.

I'm disappointed Denver didn't make the cut for Zwanze (although GABF will be happening shortly thereafter so whatever). I have literally never seen a bottle of Cantillion on a shelf here, it seems to just skip the mountain west. I'm a big sour fan and would love to try a few from what's almost universally considered the best brewer of them in the world.

It's hard to find Cantillon anywhere right now anywhere. It gets bought really quickly since even beginner beer geeks hear "Cantillon is the best and hard to find" and so buy what they can.

Yeah, myself and 2 friends are going to try and split the cost of the RS and get a membership.

Cantillion is fantastic, but it definitely hurts the pocketbook. The Lady of the House recently got a St. Lamvinus (rare even for Cantillion) for her birthday and it was glorious. It definitely benefits from proper serving temperature - starts very sour (more tart than vinegar) and it finishes like a nice red wine. Thankfully it had enough complexity that I wasn't tempted to take big gulps.

You can find it online if your state allows that.

Cantillon Saint Lamvinus - ZYN.ca, your specialty online liquor store for example. Ours was purchased from a Washington, DC grey market vendor.

St. Lamvinus is tasty. I've had it on draft a couple times and it's delicious. The grapes add an interesting edge to the lambic base.

edit: Tyrsis, so does that mean if I convinced my wife I should get one, you could be my trustee?

Speaking of which, I picked up a bottle of Allagash's 2011 Fluxus yesterday when they were at my local craft beer shop doing a tasting. $19 a bottle.

Yesterday the Boston Beerofactors attended Zwanze Day at Lord Hobo and got to try Cantillion's annual lambic release. Incredible beer, never tried anything like it.

Same. I thought the 2011 was much better than the 2010. Also got to try Iris for the first time... a fun day. Stone was serving up some chicken and waffles... it was boss.

Agreed on the 2010. It didn't have enough body and the flavors felt muted. The 2011 was an impressive sour lambic.

Wasn't a huge fan of the 2010 when I had it a couple weeks ago. Didn't like the Iris really. Thought the hoppiness didn't blend with the lambic flavors and just made it sort of unpleasant.

Favorite Oktoberfests brews?

I'm pretty fond of the less-malty Hofbrau and Ayinger Oktoberfests available at this time of year, anyone else hitting those up? Also I'm sure to have a couple 5L mini's of the Hofbrau Oktoberfest for Blizzcon this year.
