I went to Bethlehem Brew Works (local microbrew restaurant mentioned earlier in this thread) the other day and had their sampler of beers. My favorite was the Oatmeal Stout, absolutely delicious. I'll have to pick up some Pumpkin Ale when I go back. However, I am learning more about their "Steelgaarden" Beer Lounge (Bethlehem is an old steel town). Apparently they have something like 100 Belgian beers to choose from -- this is too good to pass up, but I know nothing about Belgian beers!

If someone would give me some reccomendations on what to try I'd be very appreciative. A list can be found here:

There are some really good brews from rogue but I normally stay away from them because I feel like half the money I'm spending is on a pretty bottle. I like Blck butte as well (who wouldn't?) If you haven't already tried some Old Rasputin Imperial Stout or Stone brewery's Smokey porter I suggest them highly.

I opened my first bottle of Leinenkugel Oktoberfest and I must profess my love... I am in love with the aftertaste of this beer. If you get your hands on anything from Leinenkugel, you will be very very pleased. The only brewer I cannot get tired of, or feel sick after drinking enough. The Honeyweiss is the perfect beer to finish a night of drinking with. The Berryweiss is great for late nights. The Original is football swill or the perfect keg beer. Beef was designed to compliment Leine Red, thats how amazing it is.

I believe that Polish beers may be rather hard to get abroad, but if you ever have chance to try Zywiec, Lech or Tyskie - do it, you wont regret.

Putting in a vote for Sea Dog Pumpkin Ale, you can find it at Trader Joe's.

Just enough pumpkin flavor to notice, but not be overbearing.

Sea Dog Pumpkin Ale is definitely good stuff. I love autumn because first we get Octoberfest, then we get pumpkin ales and holiday spiced ales. :D

I can get Zywiec in Las Vegas, so it should be available in a lot of places.

Stone's Ruination IPA is absolutely amazing. If you don't like bitter, do not even smell.

So, is this exclusively a beer thread, or are we allowed to bring in the now-orphaned vile drink combinations?

If the former, then I've always enjoyed Leffe (Brits don't really have any of these 17-syllable Warcraft-esque ale brands you guys refer to).

If the latter, Imperial Tsar Vodka (Scotland's equivalent of antifreeze) and Irn Bru would actually wake Jesus up out of disgust.

Shipping beer from Europe is outrageous. If you can't put it in your suitcase and bring back as luggage, it's not worth it unless you just want 1 bottle. I tried to ship myself a case of hefeweizen a couple years back and I balked when shipping cost twice as much as the beer. My step-dad (who was stationed in Germany at the time) was the lucky recipient of a free case (minus a couple bottles that I drank on principle) of damn fine beer.

I'm working on a document of all the stuff I've tried lately (based on or inspired by this thread) and I'll get it on here in the next few days. I still have a couple bottles in the fridge I want to finish off and add to the list.

As a teaser, if you're thinking of buying Delirium Tremens, I suggest getting La Fin Du Monde instead. They're both Belgian Strong Pale Ales, but La Fin Du Monde was a bit better and a bit less expensive, in my opinion.

Vodka... Yeah, yeah, whatever. Not enough malt.

REAL vodka is made from potatoes. This neutral grain alcohol shit is just plain not right.

I like Delerium Tremens, but I'd agree Fin du Monde is a superior product. Unfortunately Fin doesn't have a pink elephant on its label. Delerium Nocturnum (Nocturnam? I can never remember) is harder to find but in my opinion better than Tremens.

I drank a Grotten Brown a few days ago. It's a pretty typical Belgian ale, aged in caverns for a special gimmick. It a fair beer, quite typical for the style. A bit too sweet for me, though.

It's all malted.

Chiming in to say thay Wyerebacher's Imperial Pumpkin Ale is one of the finest things to come out of autumn. It is, without any exaggeration, the best pumpkin ale I've ever had. The flavors and armoas are huge, and it follows through to the last drop. Probably my favorite seasonal beer to date.

Find some!

I can't stand seeing this post be consigned to page 7 so I'm resurrecting it so it may return to its place of glory, and cast shadows over all the new NDA stuff.

Guess what I get to do tonight?
http://www.galaxyrestaurant.com/spec...5916&basketid=

I have printed the page and highlighted every bottle recommended on this thread. I think tonight will be my crowning achievement in alcohol consumption. I cant wait to evaluate all the delicious malted flavors, and share my joys with my fellow beer drinking cohorts from the internet.

On topic, anything I should stay away from?

On a tangent, I was in Boston last weekend for a wedding, and had the pleasure of visiting this establishment: http://www.thepublickhousebrookline.com/ -- check out the selection. Anyone who's reading this thread who lives in the Boston area would be well-served by a visit here, particularly if you like Belgian-style brews and strong IPAs.

I was mostly drinking a Belgian called Cantillon Iris, and Stone's 10th Anniversary IPA (a richer take on Arrogant Bastard) -- I tried a third after having a fair bit of the first two, yet somehow I cannot recall what the third beer I tried was. Go figure.

But anyway, yeah, if you live in/near Boston, check this place out. Walking into a bar and not recognizing 90% of the draught handles was an unexpected but pleasant surprise.
