Re: seasonals - Harpoon Winter Warmer if you're in/around New England.

Ripper: Glad you enjoyed la Fin du Monde, check out some of Unibrouie's (sp?) other offerings as well. I believe the one with the devil riding a log down the river (or something) was pretty good. A maroon label if I'm not mistaken... just can't remember the name :(

I believe you're thinking of Maudite, and it is indeed goddamn delicious.

I had a Chambly de Noire last night with dinner. Rich, wonderful dark beer with low hops, but not too sweet. I love everything by Unibroue.

Oh god dammit, did I completely miss the fall seasonal solely due to being unable to find a distributor around here that carrys more than Number 9 and Blind Faith?

I need to find myself more pumpkin ale, I really enjoy the stuff, especially Buffalo Bill's.

edit: Anyone know where I can get Buffalo Bill's around Chicago?
Best bet is probably Sam's Wine and Spirits.

Tried some Capital Brewery Wisconsin Amber... meh. Not bad, just boring.

I was at my local grpcery store today trying to decide between all the seasonals and I got a nice laugh at michelob in its seasonal packaging. Way to be in the spirit of the season. I grabbed 2 six packs of Sierra Nevada Celebrator and they were delicious.

I picked up a 6pk of Sierra Nevada Celebration last week and didnt really like the strong bitter aftertaste that it carried.

When I went to the stone this week I grabbed a 6pk of Sam Adams Winter Lager and it is delicious, im going to have to remember to stock up on it before they stop producing it.

Has anyone tried Bell's Hop Slam yet? Bell's has always been quality, and this new(?) double IPA of theirs has gotten great reviews and word-of-mouth (my dad) says it kicks ass.

Yeah, I read a short article in the paper recently about Unibroue's beers and I'm pretty eager to try the others when I can. I was in a rush at the beer store last night, though, and went with a Dark Horse Sapient Trip Ale (a tripel).

They do have a decent little search feature on their website, if you haven't checked it out already.

http://www.magichat.net/ (Availability)

I picked up the Festival of Fools (I think?) seaonale pack which had RR, #9, Circus Boy and one of their Batch xxx varieties.

RR was tasty, I really enjoy Circus Boy, though. I also have a 6-pack of Fat Angel in the fridge, though the bottle doesn't seem to do it justice. Much better on tap, IMO.

EDIT: Silly typo.

I've been working my way through the dunkelweizen's available locally ever since I had the Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel. I still like the Weihenstephaner the best, but Erdinger's is pretty good and Ayinger's should be skipped.

I bottled my first homebrew last Saturday. It was a honey brown ale from a kit I bought from http://www.homebrewery.com (a local shop with a surprisingly nice website). It should be ready to drink just in time for Thanksgiving.

The winter warmers sure are nice this time of year. I recently had the chance to attend the Maine Brewers Fest, which was a blast and I reccomend anyone with the chance to attend a similar fest in their area to try and make it, such as the extreme beer fest held in Boston this coming February, or the Chicagoland Brewpub & Microbrewery Shootout also in February. Anywho, the Maine Brew fest was great, to many good beers to mention, I gotta find some place local that carries Allagash, but until then I'll simply have to rely on Shipyards Prelude Ale to tide me over.

Is anyone here fortunate enough to have tried the New Belgium Fat Tire amber ale? A friend of mine just recently took a trip out west, and scored some in San Francisco; he said it's an absolutely phenomenel brew. Unfortunately, it's apparently entirely unavailable on this side of the Mississippi. :socar:

i could swear that i saw Fat Tire at the beer shop i regularly go to, but i could be mistaken. i don't know about "absolutely phenomenal," but i did enjoy it a lot. definitely do go down to Fisherman's Wharf in SF and have one in a bar with big windows overlooking the bay.

(EDIT: i'm east of the Mississippi, by the way)

Fisherman's Wharf is a tourist trap; buy a bottle and drink it on Ocean beach. ;)
