So you're telling us that you registered a forum account to inform us that three nerds getting drunk on cheap, tasteless beer while playing video games and downloading porn is exactly what this 8-month old thread is about.

Yes, I am finding it difficult to relate, though I'm not convinced it's unfortunate.

Spent Saturday night drinking Chimay trappists with some mates. That's always nice. You really can't go wrong with proper trappist ales. Somehow, at some point; we ended up knocking back pints of Rogue Imperial Stout and Old Crustacean Barleywine Ale instead. If I could remember whose idea that had been, I'd beat his ass. They're not exactly bad ales, they're just average with an evil kick that sneaks on you. The stout looks exactly like used motor oil and has pretty much the same consistency. Both of those are 11%+, which nobody mentioned before I'd downed two of them, so I ended up sleeping through Sunday after a few pints.

On the bright side, they come in nifty crocks you get to keep. Made note to self to never drink those two Rogues again unless I'm actively needing to get drunk for some reason.

Has anyone tried Heineken Light? I personally think it's a very good beer, and it has become my 'afterwork chillout with a couple buddies' beer. Obviously it is much smoother than regular Heineken (not as bitter) and much more appealing to my American pallet.

My dad likes Heineken Light and whenever I go up to my parents to visit, I end up drinking that with him. I think they preserved the flavor of Heineken very well, despite making it a light beer. That being said, I still do like the original heavy taste of the draft lager more, but it's probably my favorite light beer.

Someone give me some good reasons to (or not to) buy a 6-pack of Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA. Is the taste similar to anything I might have had already? Is the high alcohol content that noticable? Would I be better off sticking with the 90 Minute?

The 90 minute is already very, very strong. I honestly prefer the 60 to the 90. I haven't tried the 120, but I can imagine that it takes the strong almost citrus flavor of the 90 and makes it even stronger.

I'd honestly stick with the 90 if you like it that well, or see if you can't buy/sample a single bottle of the 120 before buying a full 6-pack (does it come in 6's? The 90 comes in 4's). It will more likely than not be a "One bottle a week" beer.

Ugh. Yeah, it's probably 4-pack like the 90 Minute. And I wonder what foods match well with the 120.

120 is something you'll enjoy for one bottle, but not much more. The guild shamans had this discussion a couple nights ago and agree that the 90 is way more drinkable. Save a bottles of 120 for a special occasion and don't drink them too often and they'll be worth it.

Speaking of IPA's, I had a Stone Ruination tonight. Pretty much a perfect IPA for my tastes, not as strong as the 90 and without the sweetish taste it leaves on the tounge.

Curious: what does the number of minutes refer to?

A single 12oz bottle of the 120 costs the same as a 4-pack of the 90. As Shab said, it's more of a novelty than something you'd drink on a regular basis.

The number refers to the amount of time during which they continuously add hops while boiling the wort during the beer-making process (60, 90, or 120 minutes, respectively).

60=6% APR, 90= 9% APR...

By reason, 120 would be 12% APR. But it's 20% ABV (40 proof).

Pretty intense stuff.

Hopefully not a terrible derail, but has anyone tried this Dogfish Head Blue Hen Vodka I see on their website? Being a big fan of both DFH and Vodka, it would seem to be a logical choice.

If it helps any, favorite vodkas currently:
Martini: Stolichnaya
Straight: Goose

Anyone have feedback?

Any tips on getting Dogfish Head on the West coast? One local store has the 90 minute (at $2.99 per individual bottle). The same store had the Raison D'Etre at one point...but not anymore. I'd like to get a 4 and/or 6 pack of it or something else by them without paying an arm and a leg for individual bottles.

On the east coast I pay 12 dollars per 4 pack of the 90 minute.

You can apparently get it for 10/4 via online mail-order (god, what an awkward description) here:
http://www.wittyswine.com/sku00197.html

Plus, you have to be at home when it's delivered, you have to pay shipping, you have to wait, and you have no guarantee that the beer will be kept chilled en route like you would purchasing from your favorite local liquor store.

I wouldn't bother, it's an expensive beer, but not so much that it's worth that much trouble.

[Edit: I can read good.] The 90 minute is a wonderfully smooth, yet deceptive IPA. Not bitter, has a subtle sweetness to it. I loved it when I tried it last weekend. I can't wait to try the 120.

Gurg is right, though, a single bottle of the 120 minute will cost just as much as a 4 or 6-pack of the 90 minute

That I did not know. I guess I would be more inclined to pay "the price" if I know that it's somewhat reasonable and not based on crazy regional markup.

It is a very nice beer...I must say.

The Raison D'Etre was good as well. The first 6-pack I had was better than the second; maybe brew year thing.
