I read somewhere that gynecologists really go for Pabst Blue Ribbon and Smirnoff vodka mixed. I'll let you guess the name of this concoction.

I've got to tell that to a bartender friend...

Shiner Bock makes one of my favorite Heffeweizens. They get bonus points for a neat label.

See you, auntie.

I'll have to see if I can get some Shiner varieties, they don't distribute in NY it seems.

Speaking of Duvel, my Budweiser salesmen informed me that its being bottled in Cooperstown, NY now and that I can get it delivered with my regular orders. Happy Days indeed.

The cooperstown location is in fact, the Ommegang location that was bought out!

That said, I made a killer batch of chili using a bottle of Rare Vos that turned out super delicious.

Speaking of summer beers, as I can only take so much of Blue Moon nowadays, I was lucky enough to find Ommegang Hennepin a few months ago. It's very light and tasty.
Dogfishhead's Aprihop is good as well, if you're into that sort of thing.

I know this is a beer topic however I came across an interesting Absinthe article. (add in disguise)
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/29/bu...erland&emc=rss

While I've only had Absinthe once before. It's not quite ready for distribution yet according to the website. Also, not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. However, the article has piqued my curiosity.

You cant get real Absinthe anymore they changed the way it was made with the woodgrain, Removing the effects that is known for as its very illegal. Its not a very nice tasting drink imo and not worth the money since its never the real stuff.

I've had some good hefeweizen-finding success in random grocery stores, and I rank it thus (And I'm not being super-strict on style):
Rogue Half-e-weizen - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/132/364
Goose Head Island 312 Urban Wheat Ale - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1146/17141
Flying Dog's In-heat Wheat - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/68/2249
Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/142/1946
Widmer Hefeweizen - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/8/17

All of these I've gotten at a normal grocery store at some point.

Never had Shiner's though. I'll have to try it

I want to continue derail a bit. You can. The only two brands having the original level of thujone are the "Zele Premium Absinthe" at 111 mg and "King of Spirits Gold" at 100 mg because they both are produced in the Czech Republic where there are no restrictions. Experience from dinking King of Spirits was very fun... and a bit scary

I've had one experience with Absinthe. I don't know the brand, but based on the results, it wasn't the "real" stuff. A friend of mine brought a bottle back from a trip to England a few years ago. It was green, had a kind of licorice flavor, and was strong as hell. I think the bottle said something like 160 proof. No one had any horrifying hallucinations, but it sure got us drunk! We were dirty college kids, so we just took shots of it straight. I'd be interested in drinking it "correctly", with or without the hallucinogens.

Back to beer, I picked up a 12 pack of a Sam Adams "Summer Sampler." It has 2 each of the Boston Ale, Boston Lager, Pale Ale, Summer Ale, Hefeweizen and (gag) Cherry Wheat. I tried the Summer Ale last night. It was a little fruitier and a little more "watery" than I was expecting, but still worth drinking. A good beer for a hot summer day, to be sure, but far from my first choice any other time.

I had the Summer Ale on tap the other night, I enjoyed it. I'd call it lighter rather than watery, it still had good flavor.

How was the Hefe?
