You guys have good taste in beer, but it also means I've got basically nothing to contribute beyond recommending The Publick House in Brookline as basically the best place to get good beer in Boston. They don't mess around with anything else, and they've got a huge array of delicious beer on tap.

You live in Boston? Just to go out on a limb, since you've mentioned you're a programmer and I think I recall you saying something about Scheme at one point, are you a current/former MIT student?

Sunset in Allston. :)

It's probably what I miss most after moving to the other side of the country!

Hah, no. I was a grad student at Northeastern(the other major scheme-using CS program in Boston, and we write our own dammit).

Yuengling is pretty much the only perk of living right outside of Pottsville. That being said I find myself getting sick of Lager after a while and have to switch to either the Black&Tan or to their Chesterfield Ale (while not being the best ale I have ever had it is one of your "better bangs for your buck").
As a college student my taste in beer is largely limited by certain mitigating factors, but attending university in Pennsylvania has one big thing going for it: Yuengling Lager. The semester begins in a week and I'm looking forward to drinking one of the best beers for my buck again.

Is Hoegaarden the white beer? I went thru ALOT of different kinds of beers when my brother come down from Norway awhile back, and I remember having a white beer that had a name similar to Hoegaarden. I really really should have taken notes from which ones were good, and which werent. Forgot most of the names after 3 weeks of drinking :(

I've had a likeing to Haagen and Grolsch since then tho.

Dont take my word as an expert tho. When I first moved to Australia I used to drink Emu Export ALL the time...

No joke, I'm at A COLLEGE and we live on the stuff (when we're not buying the cheap shit)

I had an Econ professor that who used to laugh at the economic trend of Frat Parties by what beer kegs and boxes were outside the frat house.

He knew when dues were collected by the Corona boxes and Yuengling kegs in the trash and the party towards the end of the month had Milwakees Best and IC Light cans sitting along the curb

Pyramid's not bad at all; one of my standbys. Never really realised it was "west coast", I seem to be somewhat spoiled out here.

I'm liking Full Sail's Trippel right now, quite good for a non-Belgian attempt at the brew, though a bit sweet for mass consumption. (As I think has been mentioned a few pages up.) I much prefer Leffe Trippel, for instance, as it's a good bit dryer to me. (Though it will put you on your knees--if you can find them--faster than anything beer-shaped I've ever seen. The Belgians do NOT screw around with their beer.)

Red Stripe's also getting some attention. Yeah, it's mass-market megabrew, but the commercials rule, and it goes great with a nice spicy meal.

Next to the monkeys with the laser pointers, the "You are very ugly!" is my favorite TV commercial.

I haven't seen Blue Moon mentioned. It's excellent. It's a Belgian White and while I haven't had Hoegaarden, it's supposed to be similar. (It's owned by Coors, but brewed in Memphis at a brewery that Coors purchased.)

If you're in the Midwest, try a Boulevard. It's a regional brewery in Kansas City that makes a damn fine unfiltered wheat year round a summer Belgian White called Zon.

This is an excellent thread :)

I went to school in Colorado so Fat Tire is a favorite. Then I moved out to IL and now I can't find it so I'm in beer limbo at the moment.

Favorite beer of all time is Tusker (made in Kenya and sold in 500ml bottles) If you ever have the chance.. dont pass it up. You can get it in select stores in DC, NY and Chicago. Probably many other places but those are the few I have actively searched and ended up pleasantly surprised :)

P.S
Sorry about your guild bank being banned... pm your address and I'll send you some Tusker to help ease the suffering.
