We recently killed C'thun for the first time (lastnight) much thanks to organizational help on these boards. So we to keep the kill and experience fresh we went into aq40 again today with the intent of clearing up to Cthun and killing him again tomorrow. We did a record clear (for us) going from Skeram to dead emps in 3 hours with a server trash included only to find a delightful little cockblock.
Which is that mindslayer packs are now chaining anywhere from 2-8 people from a SINGLE MINDFLAY. Needless to say when we hit a 4 mindslayer pack it was pretty gruesome. We tried everything, spreading them out, zerging them up. We stopped at flasking up (except our two MTs still had them from emps) and managed to get 3 down with 25 people still up,problem was only 4 of those were healers. With 9 tanks it would be fairly easy,as you wouldnt have to worry about the mind controls and them running into anothers zone and mindflaying healers.
Has anyone managed to get by these guys yet? And if so,share some tips -_-
Who the hell wanted that trash to be more difficult, their already tougher then almost all the bosses before with exception of maybe vicidus.

Just wait till you see what they did to C'Thun!
What we did for our 4 mindflayer packs(thank God there was one of them), is spread them out, but more importantly, have the raid members be spread out. The mind flay is like C'Thun's green beam in that it's a targetable AE, chaining to other people, so if you're far away from each other, you can avoid getting multiple people hit. This worked okay and made the buff relatively invisible after we got okay at it.
As for C'Thun, now he won't just hit the MT a few times while everyone gets situated, so we're having to send in two groups at a time, keeping everyone spread out etc while we set up.

It sounds like once you pull a boss everyone will be put on his hate list immediately now.
At least that would explain Razuvious running past an Iceblocked Mage and C'Thun beaming other people than the MT during the pull.

Oh good, of all the things that needed to be fixed making the post-Emps trash harder was up there in my top five.
Meh I guess its not that bad if all it entails is spreading out to avoid the mindflay, just seems kind of silly though ... its pretty notoriously known that a lot of guilds who can farm AQ40 don't go because of the time investment of clearing the trash to C'thun makes the runs way too long, so they decide to give them a new ability? You would think maybe they would try to encourage people to go to AQ instead of making it so people want to go even less.

That would require the abilities to be triggered by the actual aggro ranking.
Don't think the eye beam and mindflay works this way.

Blizzard has long tradition of breaking mob spells during patches. This might be just like when they gave Chromaggus nullify-like Time Lapse and Corpse Scarabs from Anub to lvl 55ish Crypt Walkers in EPL.

For groups still getting Ouro and/or C'Thun attempts in, and struggling with what was already pretty difficult trash (and a LOT of it), this is a slap in the face. I'm not on the bleeding edge, and I know the norm there is broken content (and lord knows I respect those of you who deal with that all the time). For us, though, this really hurts. Maybe we'll find out it is a bug. My sense, though, is that this is an intended change, based on the rationale of "C'Thun drops loot much better than much of Naxx, we should make the clear to him significantly harder in order to bring it more in line with Naxx." We'll see, I guess.

We got out first C'thun kill last night, and took ouro to 31%.
Now I have to decide wether we should just drop everything post twins and focus on Naxx. I geuss the first step will be to relearn Raz.
Pretty thoughtless changes IMO.

I was just about ready to admit that the pre-Razuvious trash in Naxx was more tedious than the post-Emps trash in AQ40. No longer can I even consider making that assertion.

It as if they don't want you to go AQ anymore instead of nerfing the trash.

Does anybody beside us use a Rogue to pull him? Seems like the most stable pull, since I can build agro on him while working him into position. As long as I don't do something stupid like let him get behind me, I have a 100% mitigation rate.
It's like my one chance for tanking glory!

We just tried it.
Works like a champ. A bit nervewracking to have all of them trying to kill me on purpose, but otherwise...

Our rogues didn't have 100% avoidance with evasion, so we sent in 8 hunter/lock pets to keep raz busy while hunters pulled adds to tanks and I eventually picked him up with an MCed add.

We have(had*) a paladin pulls, then hunters pulled the understudies while a rogue pulled Raz and evatanked.

Interesting. Our approach has been for a priest to do a mind soothe on the front right add and then as soon as he can move in close enough for mind control (and Raz is on the back side) we start the encounter by MCing the add. If the priest messes something up he's the only one to die.

My base dodge rate is 38.5 or so with both ZG enchants and 8/8 BF, +10 parry, +50 evasion. I usually drink a mongoose just be sure. I have only had one bad pull, where I think he got behind me. I plan to try pulling him to me with a bow this week.
We actually have a hunter pull the adds, just so they don't come after me. I just go straight for Rav.

We tried it twice but both times our rogue got raped, so we went with the pet strategy which worked well. We also experimented using a mage to frostbolt raz then iceblock, while a feral druid in catform dashed past and used faerie fire on raz, pulling him to the back of the room. By the time the adds were in position and one was MCed, the mage broke the iceblock and raz would come running back towards him, at which point I could intercept him with a taunt from my add. It worked ok but we couldn't rely on our only feral druid being there all the time (or staying feral).
