Hello everyone,

I would like to explain to you my problem, and set down in detail exactly what I have done to attempt to fix this. If you think there is something I have missed or know of a solution, please comment, as this is driving me completely insane with frustration.

Some weeks ago, my guild reached Thaddius in Naxxramas, and since then, I have suffered from the same problem no matter what I try. I am the only one in my guild who has this problem and so it has been very difficult for me to find anyone who I can compare system/connection/files with.

So this is what happens:

My raid kills the first two named mobs before allowing Thaddius to come to life. Everything goes as it should until he starts to cast polarity shift. Once this is cast, I can see the rest of my raid run to their designated spots (I have learned to stand well back when this happens or else I would wipe them due to my problem). So they all start running into their groups, but they keep running, as if they are lagging, then I freeze for a couple of seconds and I get disconnected from the realm. The message I receive is:

‘Disconnected from server’

Now before you start assuming what could be wrong here, please read the below procedures I have attempted. Before I do this, I will list you the spec of my PC and operating system etc. I have all latest drivers for my graphics and sound cards and my motherboard.

System:

Abit uGuru AV8 motherboard

2 Gb of ram

AMD 64 3200+ Athlon

NVidia GeForce 6800 GT 256mb

Windows XP Home edition

I have a broadband connection with NTL in the UK. It is a 2mb connection and is shared with my sister using a Cnet wireless –G router.

Here are the things I have changed before trying the boss again, each separately and without any change to my disconnect problem:

Followed the instructions for 3. Connection lost (Disconnected from server) at - http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread....16591863&sid=1

Disabled all mods

Lowered graphic settings to minimum

Played in windows mode

Complete re-format of my PC.

Purchased a new hard-drive

Purchased a network card

Disconnected router

Disabled Microsoft and McAfee firewalls

Disabled Microsoft and McAfee firewalls separately

Disabled McAfee virus protection

So there is what I’ve tried, I hope maybe Blizzard could reply to this (I have posted on WoW official forums) but any feedback at all from the community is appreciated.

We know a lot about your PC but nothing about your WoW persona. One is required to post here, the other isn't.

If it is an nforce motherboard with the onboard firewall you might try disabling that. I had issues with mine until I did it.

Also, fill out your profile as Kaubel said.

The usual, reinstall windows, maybe even format your HD... Start with bare minimum wow-addons.

My friend had a similar problem, except that it's in Chrom / Nefarian's room. Everything else in game works fine, but when he walks in to the corridor between Chrom / Nef his computer just freezes picture. Sounds keep on working for few secs and then "Disconnect". Same if he gets summoned trought to neffy's balcony. We've located the problem, its an driverissue with his Ati Radeon 9600 display chip, and the only drivers we were able to make it work are like 3 years old. (the ones that shipped with his comp) anything newer, and it's a no go.

I used to have the exact same problem. I changed from a wireless connection to an actual cable and deleted Damage Meters (guild member's suggestion). I really don't know anything about computers, add-ons or anything else that might be related, but my problem went away.

Are you playing on a US or EU server from the UK?

I know the WoW servers tend to disconnect you if you queue up more than a certain # of messages that aren't received in a timely fashion (oddly, real server lag does not trigger this). What is your server ping time and does it remain consistent up until the polarity shift? Can you enable the titanbar performance panel and look at the incoming/outgoing data during this time period?

I'm not a big computer buff, so pretty much everything you just wrote there doesn't make sense to me, sorry. If you could explain what this means in more basic terms I will gladly try that if I have the knowledge to and let you know.

This can't be the same problem as I have said on my post that I have tried the encounter with a direct modem connection and with all mods disabled.

I play on an EU realm - Tarren Mill.

Perhaps not the same disease, but certainly the same symptoms.

It has nothing to do with your graphics, your CPU, your motherboard, your ram, or your operating system. The problem is 100% packet based which means the following are reasonable things to try.

1.) Connect directly to your modem. Eliminate the router from the equation. It looks like you may have already tried this.
2.) Update the firmware and driver for your network card.
3.) Replace your network card. Try 3com or Intel.
4.) Upgrade the firmware on your modem. Not always the easiest thing to do, depending on your provider, which leads us to step 5.
5.) Replace your modem.

Many older modems will choke hard on too many packets per second, you can test your pps with The All-Seeying Eye, a multiplayer game browser. On initial setup it will bring up a tab called "Network". Click the large button labeled "Auto-detect connection settings". Maximum packets per second is the important thing here. Anything under 100 is shit. If yours is low, or returns a message like the network is unstable, keep trying the steps above and going to tools/options/network in ASE and auto detecting again. You've got to get that pps up.

edit: Any mods in wow that talk to other clients will increase the strain on your network connection. Damage Meters, SW Stats, CTRA, RDX, ORa etc. I would basically disabvle EVERYTHING if you don't know which mods "talk" to others. Kill your combat log and leave LFG as well.
Thanks for the help. Can you tell me what fireware is and how I update it? I'm using the standard factory driver for my network card, which is the only one available on their website.

Uh I'm pretty sure he meant firmware and not Firewire. :P
