Personally, I'm betting on a Velious Style Faction system, where you "could" theoretically grind on (let's just say giants all day, but killing the giant king or the avatar of their god will shift your faction significantly more, so that those who spend all their time raiding can also shift their factions over time,) Aka start off on killing dwarfs... then switch to giants... until you hit NTOV which then forces you to shit all over your awesome dragon reputation in order to get the best drops in the game, but be KOS in popular player inhabited zones (Skyshrine)
To the rumors of how long it takes to level... Several people I know that were given log in info for the actual Blizzard tBC Alpha said it only took them a few hours of grinding to get to 63. (P.S. the areas are breathtaking.)
CMs have also posted saying that as of yet the leveling curve has not been defined precisely. The alpha may have much faster leveling to allow people to access items and content that require testing.
Yeah, I mean they obviously want people to test a wide variety of content in the Alpha, so they're not going to dramatically increase the XP required to level; such actions would invalidate the goal of the alpha. And with such immense zones, and a plethora of dungeons, it seems clear that the current Alpha experience/leveling curve will be re-tuned for retail.
There's just no way they can fit all these blood thirsty level 60's hanging around Orgrimmar and Iron Forge into 1 zone and expect them to be able to level peacefully.
It's going to be complete chaos with entire guilds of people out in that starting zone on the first night (can't wait for the frequent server crashes) all marking their turf in the zone so they have an area to grind in, or just running around bitchslapping the opposing faction... I'm going to love it.

They did say 60-70 will be as long as 1-60 is now. So yay to that. :)
Based on current alpha leveling rates, that statement was *wildly* inaccurate.
Doesn't it stand to reason that they would accelerate the levelling rate for an alpha version?
I hope it is accelerated a bit becuz a few hours of grinding to hit 63 just seems way too fast. I remember it was a good 6-9 hours of grinding for lvl 59-60 and i'd expect nothing less. 40-60 comparable to 60-70 seems pretty acceptable to me. O well, ima probably be a guild pally so it'll just be one giant grind from 1-70.

The best Theorycraft and Mathcraft happens after a raid and before the sun comes up.
Although it will be interesting to see if there are any surprises in store with instance caps, the only definite 10 man I've seen announced is Karazhan. I think its most likely that all those 12 instance wings in Outland not flagged as raid are 5 man, and pray that the 5 flagged as raid are 25 man.
The levelling curve will likely be tuned to match the amount of content in the game.
In simpler terms, they'll make it as slow as they can without forcing you to run out of quests and grind.
If you get to level 70 and only end up doing half the quests to get there, they'll make leveling slower. If you get there and you've done 90+% of the quests and then had to grind because you either didn't find or didn't want to do the rest, they'll make it slower.
There are 5 instances listed for lvl's 70-72. Wouldn't it be safe to assume that a couple of those are 10 man and the "Raid" are all 25 man. From the magazine descriptions each instance had 3 or more wings it sound like with each wing requiring a large size party. First wing is 5 man, 2nd wing is 10 man and the 3rd wing is raid.
It specifically says the listed levels are mob levels, and there are plenty of 61-62 mobs in current level 60 5 man instances. It seems we're getting lots of 5 man wings and a decent amount of 10 & 25 man content. I'd also expect an instance like Black Temple to be larger than a single 5man wing.

I think it's listing basically every quest giver camp with more than 1 or 2 NPCs. Some of them will obviously be larger towns / villages, but some are probably quite small.
I wonder how large these zones actually are. Imagine how many people are going to be crammed in Hellfire Peninsula for the first couple weeks. Now factor in PvP servers.
They are big. Hellfire Peninsula is comparable to WPL and EPL combined, easily. Or Tanaris, Un'Goro AND Silithus, and it's ALL open landscapes. That said, there *IS* a PvP activity scheduled in the zone IIRC, so I'm sure for the avid PvP-er it's small enough :)
You can also start in Zangar Marsh, it's a lvl 60-64 zone. Tier 3 players will be able to conquer that quite feasibly, although right now regular mobs hit pretty hard. Group leveling seems very preferable and possibly intended.

Every major city in Azeroth will have some way of getting to Outlands more swiftly and convenient than travelling all the way to the Blasted Lands :)

Well, on opening day I suspect some people will start on the new BE/Draeni characters. Also, there should be some Dark Portal opening event, so that will take some time.
Anyway, the PvP in the first zone should prove interesting, but the map shows a 60-64 area to the west of the starting zone for people that want to be safe from mean PvPing Players.
Millions of words are written annually purporting to tell how to beat the races, whereas the best possible advice on the subject is found in the three monosyllables: 'Do not try.'

Can you imagine how bloodthirsty the herbalists and miners are going to be? While it would be nice to level at a relaxed pace, PvP and competition for resources may force those of us on PvP servers to pick up the pace.

I confirmed that there will be some sort of opening event similiar to AQ40. Do we have any other information on its nature? It couldn't possibly be as large in scope as AQ40 if only because in the month it took to open that, people will have reached 70 and rendered much of the content moot.
Should I begin collecting Arthas Tears and Purple Lotus now?

Yeah if it only took half the time to go up 3 times as many levels, that pretty much confirms the idea that they purposefully accelerated it.
And as another poster mentioned, it would defeat the object of the alpha.
"Okay guys, you've got 6 weeks to casually test everything we've made so far. But, the catch is you've got to run the literal gauntlet of levelling up! GO!"

I wonder what happened to their plans for Auchindoun? ISTR that they wanted to be a place that would be a city if you had the right faction, but a dungeon if you didn't. I was pretty interested in that.

Sweet, I'm suprised I didn't notice that on first glance.
There's a lot more to Outlands than I had expected, even reading the tidbits of information we've gotten up to this point. Seems all of the waiting is going to be very worthwhile.
I'm just a little scared like some people have mentioned about the amount of crowding that we'll see in the first several weeks after release. Day 1 of retail was pretty awful, and WoW was a tight-knit community back then compared to the juggernaut it's become.
Aside from SWG beta, this is my first MMO. How does this expansion compare in size to expansions from other games? How does the time frame - two years after launch - compare?

I was just reading the Story So Far... part of the BC site and I just glossed over the following
With the future in peril, a relic of the past has also surfaced, radiating renewed energy. This relic has enabled Lord Kazzak to activate the current Dark Portal, thereby reopening the gateway to...
I guess there won't be an opening event that involves players.

Isn't the dance that Blood Elf is doing the one that was shown on these forums? Someone linked a shot of a large black guy, some sort of fighter who is reknowned for pretty much selling out for anything, dancing with japanese girls doing those exact same moves? Or is that a more well known dance move over in the USA?
Dammit, can't remember his name but an EJ member posted it.
EDIT: Ah, tracked it down. Wow the BE male dance in game is silly... :)
If there is ever content in this game that people are still exploring there will be one person who will release a video or guide to walk others through it!! :)~ j/k of course!! Good find by the first person up there to mention it, now my interactive map is mesmerizing too!!
