Going by worldofraids.com data:

08/09/2006 - Beyond Redemption releases 4H kill movie (not sure how many guilds had killed 4H by this stage)
14/09/2006 - Nihilum releases Kel'Thuzad kill movie (4 guilds having killed KT)
14/09/2006 - Beyond Redemption releases Sapphiron kill movie (6 guilds having killed Sapphiron, I believe this release was most likely prompted by Nihilum's decisions to release the KT movie)

How early is too early to release a boss kill video in your opinion?

Will your guild be looking at the videos to glean strategies?

*edit*

IMO, Nihilum should of waited at least another week or two. Perhaps they knew the video was going to be leaked in the near future anyway.

There is no 'too early', it isn't like you made some sort of agreement with the other guilds.

Meh, I'd prefer if people didn't. I personally like going into a fight blind, but there are enough people in guild who want to see how a fight is done first that there really isn't any point. Everyone will share the strat they find.

So I've pretty much given up on my ideal of learning these fights from scratch. Still, people release these videos way to fast.

Some people feed on boss vids as their "raiding fix", i havent been able to raid for a few months but i still enjoy experiencing the encounters through videos released.

From a raid progression perspective i can see how people dont want to be "spoiled" but just think about these vids from the perspective of someone who isnt on the cutting egde, someone who is 3 months, 6 months or even a year behind in content.

I know with certain FPS games, you can get live feeds of top clan games. Right now I think they are considering giving the option to spectate during the arena matches in TBC. I always loved being able to watch replays of top players. The reason a lot of these things are available though is because the information of a full match, or a replay, doesn't take up very much memory or bandwidth. Although I think seeing a raid, plus the hearing the actual vent at the same time could be quite entertaining. But then it starts to become more like TV than a game.

If nothing else, I think guilds should be allowed to let their standby members do something like this. Would make it a bit easier to help teach new people to bring to your raid.

I remember back when Blackwing Lair was released I was looking forward to learning strats on our own. That lasted for about the 15 minutes before someone started saying in guild what a guild in another time zone said about Razorgore.

If you can still list all of the guilds who have killed a boss, it's too soon for a public video.

I had that exact same feeling nurru... We zoned into BWL to fight razorgore the day the zone was released, and already people knew things about how the fight worked and strategies, and it was definately more detail than they could have gotten going in themselves either alone or a small group and wiping. At this point we had maybe two or three rag kills, and everyone was excited to rush through.

When I first started MC and we got to gehennas for the first time, I told the raid to tank the two adds and pull and lets see what he does, and got torn apart by my guild for saying that because it would be a "garunteed wipe" and that there's no point to it because we can all go to conquest's site and view all the strats there.

Figuring things out for yourself was (and still is) my favorite part of raiding. Thankfully, raiding has gotten more difficult, and there's a lot of intricacies within each encounter that must be accounted for, that you can't get out of a video. This is also what made the scepter chain so exciting for me. A mage in my guild ended up making the 1st scepter, and we got to take him through each step of the chain not only being the first on our server, but among the first in the world, that nearly every part of it we had to figure out for ourselves. Granted, it wasn't that difficult, but it was a welcomed change after Nefarian, where everyone and their mother had a strat from someone else first by the time we got there.

The lack of motivation of my original guild to think for itself ended up being part of the reason I left it. Now, the second guild I was with split up with server transfers and the leaders all moving to a new server, and the one I'm currently in is still in its infant stages. After being able to zone into naxx with 39 other people to barely being able to find enough for MC, watching other guilds videos of the stuff is cool, and at this point I know I won't get to experience it before the expansion so its ok for this stuff to be out.

Once the expansion hits, though, I won't feel the same way about the new content. I'm grateful that naxx videos are out for the later parts because I'll never see those fights in the envirnment they were created for. I still have the chance to though with the expansion content, and I'd hate for that to be ruined with high levels of videos and strategies the way MC was for me.

Anyway, naxx videos are fine, because most people won't get to experience the content as level 60s. If videos are released this faster after expansion kills, I'm be severly dissapointed.

By the same token, I sort of wonder the same thing about fight help/spoilers, which this forums is pretty good at giving.

It's one thing to give help, but lately there's been a lot of posts prefixed by the "we've tried X mob for a couple attempts and ..." or "We're about to try X and we want to know Y". Seems pretty insane how helpful we are in giving people infoz on mobs that haven't even tried, or barely tried.

Foh had the "Safehouse that way -------->" line for those kinda threads.

A while ago someone posted a live feed of their UBRS run to test out something they had made to make live streams of World of Warcraft. It was about 1 FPS but still proved that it was possible

I like the spectator idea xkmonkey. I remember in WC3, you were able to observe games. Perhaps it would be good if blizzard allowed spectators maybe in ghost form or something from the guild. Would save lots of time teaching new people the encounter every week.

I've noticed europe is much more open about posting vids than US guilds. Cultural difference? Either way I think its great, allows people who may not see the boss for months or ever to see the fight and live vicarously - and save hundreds of gold in repair bills :D

I used to think a month after the kill was about right. Either way the vast majority of naxx was released way too quickly. The only bosses I killed before a video came out were thaddius and heigan.
